Chapter 1: The Joy and Melancholy of the Insect Emperor
The general was somewhat puzzled by Lian Yun's words. Although the Insect Emperor was pleased, he seemed to lack wisdom at that moment, displaying a similarly confused expression.
Lian Yun nodded and smiled slightly, saying, "Before coming in, I wanted the Insect Emperor to protect Azure Pavilion, primarily to ensure your safety."
"If you cause trouble outside and offend someone, or if any enemies of Azure Pavilion were to kidnap you to force the two Leaders to leave Azure Pavilion, then even if the Leaders have great influence, their lives would be at risk."
"With the Insect Emperor's protection, you shouldn't fear being kidnapped. Regardless of what Azure Pavilion's enemies do, those within Azure Pavilion can remain safe and sound. This is likely what Vice Master Qing meant earlier."
"Now that the Insect Emperor wishes to take you as a disciple, it is an even more perfect situation than I had previously imagined."
"First, the Insect Emperor would protect you as a mentor, which means he would be even more dedicated. Second, although you have the title of disciple under Vice Master Qing, there is no true mentorship. Third, while your innate talent is not lacking, you fell behind when entering the secret realm because you lacked a world-class master to guide you."
"So if Vice Master Qing knew about this, she would undoubtedly agree to your apprenticeship under the Insect Emperor and might even insist on it."
"Moreover, Azure Pavilion feels more like a home to you rather than just a school. Therefore, if you become a disciple of the Insect Emperor, he surely wouldn't want to see you suffer for your family’s sake and would naturally help Azure Pavilion."
"Yes! If you become a Leader of Azure Pavilion in the future, I will definitely do my utmost to protect it; after all, it's your legacy!" The Insect Emperor said with a broad smile but quickly added.
Hearing Lian Yun's words made the Insect Emperor suddenly realize that the general seemed eager to become his disciple, feeling a mix of joy and excitement.
In truth, just as the Insect Emperor liked the general's personality, she also appreciated someone whose character was similar to her own.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have called him Old Bug so casually.
It’s important to note that the Insect Emperor was different from Lan Ruoxuan; while Lan Ruoxuan could be considered family, there was no such connection between her and the Insect Emperor. Thus, calling him Old Bug was almost an instinctive display of closeness.
Perhaps the Insect Emperor sensed this as well and didn’t take offense at the general's attitude.
Although she usually appeared carefree, deep down she held her own principles. With her talent, there were certainly marksmen willing to take her as a disciple.
The reason she remained in Azure Pavilion was due to her own convictions and boundaries. Lian Yun's explanation hadn’t touched upon those boundaries at all; thus she felt compelled to consider it.
Especially since her younger brother had surpassed her by leaps and bounds over the years; this only intensified her desire to grow stronger.
After some inner turmoil, she finally relented and said, "I need to go back and ask my master about this."
At this moment, she was just a child, no longer referring to herself as the General.
The Insect Emperor leaped up, unable to contain his excitement. As long as the Brat agreed, the Azure Pavilion would be no problem at all. He had a thought he kept to himself out of fear that the Brat would dislike it: although the Azure Smoke Pavilion was wealthy, it did not match her talent.
Of course, if it were about a family rather than a sect, that would be a different story. If it were a family, the Azure Pavilion would be worthy of anyone; it was just uncertain how many could truly match that family.
Once the Brat agreed, there would be no rejection from the Azure Pavilion.
“Come on, Brat, let me take care of this Year Beast BSS for you,” he said. With this disciple, he seemed to forget all about the Treasure Box Reward and even the bet with the Qin Emperor.
However, the General was not as pleased and instead asked, “Old Bug, if I become your disciple, will you still teach my brother martial arts?”
“Him? You are my sole disciple; how could I possibly teach him?” The Insect Emperor shot a disdainful glance at Lian Yun.
Well, this guy clearly had forgotten about their previous bet and was now throwing it out of his mind.
Lian Yun felt speechless but relaxed since he no longer had to worry about rankings.
However, the General immediately grew angry and said, “If you don’t teach my brother, then I won’t become your disciple. Anyway, without you, I can still learn your skills by stealing them—especially the more profound parts! Hmph! At worst, I’ll figure it out myself.”
“Damn it!” The Insect Emperor nearly exploded and glared fiercely at Lian Yun. “If you dare teach outsiders, I will definitely destroy you.”
“Thank you, senior.” Lian Yun cupped his hands in gratitude, finding it quite amusing.
This was probably what they meant by one thing overcoming another.
Without the worries of rankings or becoming a disciple, Lian Yun looked curiously at the Year Beast BSS.
Having kept an eye on the Insect Emperor before, he noticed some additional characteristics of the Year Beast BSS.
The Insect Emperor had spent an hour bringing it down to the eighth layer and three hours to bring it down to the ninth layer. Now, the Year Beast BSS had grown to a massive ten meters in size.
That wasn’t all; although the Insect Emperor hadn’t destroyed the Year Beast BSS further, treasure boxes continued to drop from it.
Lian Yun roughly calculated that there were ten Golden Treasure Boxes on the fourth layer. Fifty on the fifth layer and one hundred on the sixth layer.
Adding it all up, there were eight hundred seventy Golden Treasure Boxes from layers four to nine.
If according to the Old Daoist, one could obtain around Three Thousand Supreme Treasure Boxes, then with more than half of the time left, it would likely only yield about Two Thousand Three Hundred Golden Treasure Boxes.
That means they would need to acquire three Golden Treasure Boxes every two minutes.
However, Lian Yun noticed that the Insect Emperor seemed to be under no pressure at all, yet could only manage to knock down one Golden Box in three minutes.
"Senior, is there any special trick to the Year Beast BSS's Tenth Layer of Defense?"
"Of course there is; otherwise, how could it be invincible?" the Insect Emperor replied irritably. It seemed he was quite displeased with Lian Yun and refused to explain the trick.
He merely stared at the general as if looking at a precious treasure.
However, the general puffed up his cheeks and glared back at him.
Realizing his mistake, the Insect Emperor shot Lian Yun an angry glance before saying, "This final layer of defense has a sort of regenerative ability; the further you go, the faster it heals. Otherwise, how could it be invincible? But the higher the damage dealt, the greater the rewards."
There was no point in being concerned about someone who was unreasonable, but Lian Yun still felt confused. "But since this is the final layer, there should be a possibility of defeating it, right?"
