Chapter 1: The Meaning of Mu Shuai and the Heart of Yang Zai Xing
Previously, whether it was Lian Yun or Zhou Tong, no matter what type of Evil Spirit corpse they extracted, they could easily pierce through it. This clearly demonstrated just how sharp the Blood Mosquito's mouthparts were.
Many people were unafraid of the butterfly's poisonous powder, even possessing the ability to resist the sound waves of the Evil Spirit cicada and evade the speed of the Dragonfly.
However, very few were willing to engage in battle with the Blood Mosquito.
This was not merely a matter of injury; it was a situation where survival was impossible.
Moreover, looking at the formation of the Evil Spirits, any normal person would recognize that it was obviously a trap.
Thus, it was understandable that around ten teams chose to abandon their mission.
No, it should actually be considered unreasonable that only about ten teams decided to give up. Given the scale of the Evil Spirits, it would be normal and reasonable for dozens, even hundreds, or even one or two hundred teams to choose to withdraw.
Yet, the mature Blood Spirit Fruits had deeply tempted most teams to remain in place and not leave.
What made Lian Yun's expression even darker was a figure who stood out as a 'Coward' even among the Ten Thousand People crowd.
He was relatively thin, trembling in fear to the point that he seemed on the verge of collapsing at any moment.
This was Chen Tao, who possessed a sense of crisis. The person beside him was unfamiliar to Lian Yun but likely belonged to the Sima Family.
What kind of deal had Zhou Tong made to allow Chen Tao to accompany them? Or did Zhou Tong feel secure enough with his presence that he agreed to let Chen Tao follow the Sima Family?
Lian Yun's feelings were complex. If it was the former, then Zhou Tong would be somewhat unforgivable; if it was the latter, then perhaps forgiveness was possible.
Although Lian Yun leaned towards the latter, he couldn't help but feel that the former was not entirely impossible. Just as Brother Qing thought, if they truly encountered a great crisis, Chen Tao might end up dragging Lian Yun down.
Zhou Tong could not possibly be unaware of this.
"Wait a moment," Lian Yun said to Eastern Sword, and in an instant, he vanished, reappearing beside Chen Tao.
The once terrified Chen Tao's face lit up with joy upon seeing Lian Yun.
However, Lian Yun spoke coldly, "Brother Chen, are you here voluntarily or did Zhou—"
"I came here on my own accord. Brother Zhou advised me against it, but I insisted on coming. Please do not blame Brother Zhou!"
Only then did Lian Yun's expression soften slightly, followed by a hint of shame for misunderstanding Zhou Tong.
Yet, it couldn't be entirely blamed on Lian Yun; after all, Zhou Tong often displayed a willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of profit.
Lian Yun nodded and looked at the people around Chen Tao who were already terrified and on high alert. He calmly said, "Let's go back! It’s clear there’s a conspiracy at play. The Fengdu Center has a Monarch, something that can even rival an Emperor. The traps they set are not something mere mortals can afford to take lightly."
"If sacrifices must be made, leaving one or two behind to observe is sufficient! The cost of such sacrifices is simply not worth it."
With that, Lian Yun didn’t wait for a response and swiftly led Chen Tao through the crowd back to Eastern Sword's side.
"Young Master, who is this?"
"Ah! Are you here to inform me of something? This is Eastern Sword; there's no need for formality."
Chen Tao nodded, a hint of excitement in his voice. "After we left Fengdu, we met with Liu Lao. According to him, Mu Shuai wants a general named Yang Zai Xing to follow you. Upon hearing this, we wanted to come back and inform you, but we were worried we wouldn't be able to find you. That's why we waited until other families arrived, and Brother Zhou also took the opportunity to trade with the Sima Family before letting me in. I hoped to encounter you."
Although surprised and puzzled, Lian Yun realized that even if Yang Zai Xing were to follow him, Chen Tao wouldn't have rushed here just to inform him. After all, Yang Zai Xing was the Ghost King and couldn't easily enter. Yet here was Chen Tao, and Zhou Tong clearly wasn't someone who acted impulsively. Lian Yun was somewhat taken aback as he asked, "You mean General Yang is coming into Fengdu?"
For Yang Zai Xing to enter Fengdu, he would have to lower his own realm. As a renowned general, doing so would make it difficult for him to regain his former strength. If he were not a king-level general, he would be of little use against some Armed Ghost Hunters.
However, what moved Lian Yun was Yang Zai Xing's willingness to help.
Chen Tao continued, "Liu Lao mentioned that your cousin Lin Feiyu and General Yang are both here at a time when you need combat strength the most. Since he has agreed to follow Mu Shuai and assist you, he no longer cares about his own future. Even if he becomes useless in the future, as long as he can help you through this crisis now, it is still a duty fulfilled."
Though grateful and touched, Lian Yun replied calmly, "Yes! Brother Zhou likely sent Brother Chen here hoping I would acquire more Blood Spirit Fruits."
"Brother Zhou didn't say it directly, but I think that's the case! However, Young Master Yun, it's very dangerous here—extremely dangerous. We should leave quickly!"
Suddenly, Chen Tao seemed to remember something and his expression turned fearful again; he trembled noticeably.
Still composed, Lian Yun nodded and said, "Wait a moment!"
"What do you think about the presence behind the scenes?" Lian Yun asked Eastern Sword.
Eastern Sword pondered for a moment before responding, "Their wisdom is likely not inferior to that of ordinary people."
Lian Yun agreed with this assessment and asked Eastern Sword One just to confirm.
Then Lian Yun nodded and suddenly pointed with Sword One directly at the Blood Spirit Fruit Tree.
In an instant, as Eastern Sword and Chen Tao stood beside Lian Yun, another Lian Yun appeared beneath the Blood Spirit Fruit Tree.
Upon arriving under the Blood Spirit Fruit Tree, Lian Yun casually waved a hand and plucked thirty Blood Spirit Fruits.
The hundred thousand onlookers had yet to react, but over ten thousand Evil Spirits, including nearly a thousand flying Evil Spirits, had already sprung into action. It was merely a moment after Lian Yun appeared that they vanished once more.
Returning to the side of Eastern Sword and Chen Tao, if it weren't for the slight shift in Lian Yun's body, Chen Tao might have thought that Lian Yun hadn't moved at all.
Without wasting any words, Lian Yun stuffed the thirty Blood Spirit Fruits into Chen Tao's arms and handed over their Wu Tai, speaking in a serious tone, "Hold tight! Get out as quickly as possible. If you encounter General Yang, tell him not to come in yet, and give five Blood Spirit Fruits to my Grandpa Liu. The rest can be handled by Zhou Tong."
Though still somewhat dazed, Chen Tao complied with Lian Yun's instructions, gripping the Wu Tai tightly. In the next moment, he felt an excruciating tearing sensation throughout his body.
However, the pain came swiftly and left just as quickly. By the time Chen Tao regained his senses, he found himself at the boundary between the outskirts and the interior of Fengdu.
Despite feeling a surge of panic within, he quickly released his grip on the Wu Tai and cautiously sprinted towards the outskirts of the Northern District of Fengdu.
Yet, he hadn't gone far when he caught sight of a regretful figure ahead—a spirit clad in armor, holding a long spear, its form flickering between reality and illusion.
