Chapter 85: The Challenges of Ultimate Ascension to Kingship
Having roughly gauged the opponent's full strength, Zhou Tong cast a glance at Lian Yun, revealing a charmingly sinister smile.
Murong Ying also turned to look at Lian Yun, her expression shifting slightly.
She observed Lian Yun with his eyes closed in deep meditation, appearing utterly serious. However, the slight twitch of his ears indicated that he was eavesdropping on her conversation with Zhou Tong, suggesting he was trying to mask his awareness of being caught.
Zhou Tong said, "You are not allowed to intervene this time. There are ten of them and ten of us. I want them to understand what it means to be the landlord of Fengdu! Moreover, we can use this opportunity to improve the coordination between our two teams!"
Lian Yun opened his eyes, clearly dissatisfied!
This reaction elicited a smile from Murong Ying's team of five.
After about half a day, by afternoon, the last member of Azure Flower recovered. Although night was approaching, Zhou Tong felt that the two teams needed some practice together and decided to mobilize everyone.
However, after walking less than a hundred meters, Zhou Tong felt a wave of surprise and delight.
The reason was that the eleven members of the team had already synchronized their movements as if they had been working closely together for years.
While there were indeed two pairs of members with considerable strength contributing to this cohesion, the main reason lay in Lian Yun's presence within the team.
He served as a central pillar, with everyone aligning their efforts towards him. This made adjustments much easier.
Typically, when a team grows larger and enters relatively unfamiliar territory, they should slow down their pace. However, under Murong Ying's leadership, the speed of the eleven members increased instead.
Before long, they arrived at their destination. Zhou Tong said, "Young Master Yun, it's your turn!"
He probably wanted Lian Yun to vent the killing intent in his heart.
However, seeing that Zhou Tong's team was blocking theirs, Murong Ying said angrily, "Are you letting Young Master Yun fight alone?"
"Yes! He usually plays by himself. Even when facing two or three Evil Spirits, he can win without a scratch."
Murong Ying widened her eyes; although she was surprised, her anger was more prominent. She knew that Zhou Tong couldn't possibly be unaware of the dangers of battling Evil Spirits. No matter how strong one is, accidents can still happen.
The five members of Murong Ying's team were also angry and wanted to rush in to help Lian Yun.
However, before they could act, their eyes suddenly widened in shock.
They saw Lian Yun dragging the corpse of an Evil Spirit out and throwing it on the ground before stepping aside.
Chen Tao and the others immediately approached. Jia Shuhua took the Spirit Core, and each of them extracted a small amount of concentrated Nutrient Solution.
Zhou Tong smiled slightly and said, "Let's go! Next, we'll see how our two teams can work together."
However, Murong Ying and her team remained unmoved. It hadn't been long since they had arrived; even if they had walked up to the Evil Spirit and returned, it surely wouldn't have taken this little time!
To Murong Ying and the others, this was an incredibly fast kill of an Evil Spirit, almost faster than a one-hit kill. It clearly defied logic or exceeded their understanding.
But soon, they snapped back to reality and returned to their team. The four looked at Lian Yun with bright glimmers in their eyes, while Murong Ying, keeping pace with Zhou Tong, remarked, "You once said you could give him the best trials; it seems that isn't enough now!"
What Murong Ying meant was that Zhou Tong did not yet have the ability to take Lian Yun to sufficiently dangerous places for him to truly test himself.
However, Zhou Tong calmly smiled and said, "Young Master Yun once faced an Ant Demon and fled without a fight, yet he managed to obtain a Spiritwood."
Murong Ying's graceful features immediately filled with anger. An ordinary Ant Demon was not something an average king could compare to, let alone one that could dominate a spirit herb.
In Murong Ying's eyes, Zhou Tong was clearly sending Lian Yun to his death.
If Murong Ying had known that Zhou Tong initially did not realize Lian Yun could use spiritual power, she would probably have confronted Zhou Tong by now!
It is important to note that those who could survive within Fengdu were rarely impulsive individuals. Zhou Tong, Jiang Ao, and Murong Ying were among the most composed of them all. Yet, Murong Ying was unable to control herself now simply because she cared too much about Lian Yun.
Lian Yun felt somewhat helpless about this but did not express any opinion.
Zhou Tong shrugged indifferently. In his view, the more Murong Ying lost control, the more it indicated her concern for Lian Yun, which allowed him to lower his guard further.
Soon, they arrived at their second destination. The Zhou Tong Team and Murong Ying's team of Ten People entered while Lian Yun stayed outside.
Lian Yun was unaware of the battle situation of the Ten People until nightfall approached when he finally saw them emerge. Although a few had minor injuries, the expressions on their faces carried a unique sense of satisfaction, accompanied by faint smiles.
In truth, it is quite easy for experts to cooperate because those with high strength can understand the intentions behind each other's movements.
Many experts, even if collaborating for the first time, can almost instantly form a tacit understanding akin to a meeting of minds.
However, the former trio of Zhou Tong, Murong Ying, and Jiang Ao found it difficult to cooperate. They were too clever and always sought to gain more benefits from their collaboration while also harboring intentions to outdo one another.
Yet with such calculations in mind, genuine cooperation became challenging; thus, the collaboration between two teams might not necessarily yield better results than a single team fighting alone.
However, now that Zhou Tong and Murong Ying had no conflicting interests, their cooperation was naturally wholehearted and devoid of ulterior motives. When it came to battle, everything flowed smoothly.
After both teams emerged, there was no conversation. The eleven quickly sought a place to settle down, then adjusted and recovered! Subsequently, the Ten People handed over the concentrated Nutrient Solution they had obtained to Lian Yun, but Lian Yun shook her head slightly.
She hoped they could keep enough for their own defense first, giving her the surplus.
After all, using concentrated Nutrient Solution to enhance one's spiritual power was already an extravagant act, let alone using the concentrated version.
In the evening, following the routine established over the past half month, Lian Yun practiced with Jia Shuhua and Sister Bear. During the practice session, Murong Ying and her five companions were left astonished.
They could guess that Lian Yun's strength was formidable, but they never expected her combat skills to be so advanced compared to theirs!
Azure Flower, Moe Girl Ye, and the Twin Sisters joined the fray one after another.
Lian Yun welcomed them without hesitation. Although she maintained her composure and refrained from using excessive force, she also didn’t hold back too much. After all, being overly lenient could be more harmful than beneficial for the four of them.
After nearly four hours of continuous combat, Lian Yun finally felt exhausted and chose to rest.
Lian Yun was quite satisfied with this outcome. Although it differed somewhat from her expectations—the emptier her body felt, the harder it became to recover—she sensed that as long as she could get through the sixth challenge, she would largely eliminate the side effects brought on by taking the Explosive Ascension Pill.
