Chapter 7: Mysterious Creatures
Zhou Tong had been watching Lian Yun, his expression shifting from a slight frown to calm indifference. He instinctively knew that Lian Yun had guessed his thoughts, and he was not surprised by this; it seemed to him that if Lian Yun could not figure out his intentions, it would be somewhat foolish.
At that moment, Meng Zhigui returned and said, "Big Brother, the Jiang Ao Team and the Murong Team will arrive at noon!"
"Mm!" Zhou Tong showed a hint of surprise.
Although Zhou Tong sent this message while everyone was just waking up and had not yet gone out, he hoped the other two teams would manage their timing better.
Generally speaking, each team had a short-term goal, whether it was for a week or a month.
Moreover, while the distance between the eastern and western regions and the northern area was not very far, coordinating for a message to arrive precisely at noon was not an easy task.
Typically, after one team sends out a gathering message, it takes one or two hours, or even three or four, for all teams to make the necessary adjustments before they can truly assemble.
Thus, Zhou Tong felt that the two teams likely had no specific goals for today, or perhaps they had caught wind of some news and were already waiting for their side's gathering information.
It could also be that the other two teams were wary of his team, but Zhou Tong did not pay much attention to that.
With several hours left until noon, Zhou Tong decided to take Lian Yun and the team members out.
Unlike yesterday, Zhou Tong's purpose today was clear: spirit herbs!
Their destination was a Two-Leaf Clover guarded by a Three-Headed Cockroach Demon.
Lian Yun was once again fighting alone!
Initially, considering the characteristics of the cockroach, Lian Yun did not plan to engage in a direct assault but aimed to eliminate a cockroach completely.
However, after nearly five minutes of battle without any results due to the inability to find the precise vibration frequency, Lian Yun decided to abandon caution, realizing that his physical stamina was lacking for a prolonged fight.
Similar to when he harvested Blood Ginseng, he struck down one Evil Spirit Cockroach and let the other two engage in combat with the headless cockroach before systematically eliminating them.
He obtained a fragment of a plant, but Lian Yun disregarded its effects and consumed it himself before dragging some heads and bodies to regroup with Zhou Tong and the others.
Although Zhou Tong's team felt a bit regretful about Lian Yun not handing over the spirit medicine, they seemed unconcerned, as if guided by Zhou Tong himself.
The only concern was that the Nutrient Solution they harvested from the corpses was less than what they had gathered the previous evening.
Zhou Tong didn’t seem bothered by it at all; he led Lian Yun and the others directly to their next target's location.
However, upon encountering the guardian Evil Spirit of an unknown target, Lian Yun felt an overwhelming urge to curse!
Zhou Tong truly was something else!
This was Lian Yun's genuine thought.
Because right in front of him stood an ant as large as a calf!
Ants were known for being among the strongest creatures relative to their size!
A calf-sized ant, with the ordinary strength of an ant, possesses nearly four thousand pounds of force. However, the Ant Demon’s abilities are enhanced tenfold, giving it a staggering strength of thirty to forty thousand pounds.
Moreover, the ant's shell is exceptionally tough; even a full-force strike from a Peak Monarch may not inflict any damage upon it.
In addition, the ant's agility is remarkably swift, making the Ant Demon one of the strongest Evil Spirits in the world. Ordinary Monarchs would not dare to provoke it lightly!
Zhou Tong had Lian Yun face off against it, seemingly with the intention of sending Lian Yun to his doom. Yet Lian Yun understood that Zhou Tong's primary goal was to test his true capabilities.
Although the Ant Demon had a very obvious weakness, Lian Yun did not wish to engage in battle. It wasn't that he was afraid; he simply did not want Zhou Tong to gauge his full strength.
Thus, he directly exited the cave and shook his head at Zhou Tong, who looked quite displeased. "It's not the right time yet!"
He could indeed determine whether it was the right time because if he used spiritual power, Lian Yun had some confidence in being able to retreat safely. However, without using spiritual power, he could hardly ensure his own safety!
So his statement was not a lie!
Despite his dissatisfaction, Zhou Tong said nothing more and led the way again.
The third target was somewhat unusual; it was a Red Flower!
At the end of a sewer, Lian Yun saw a beam of sunlight streaming through a gap in the manhole cover, illuminating a Red Flower below.
There was a sense of resilience and vitality about it.
On either side of the Red Flower stood two calf-sized Beetles. They faced each other, their long antennae continuously brushing against the sunlight surrounding the flower!
It seemed as if they feared the sunlight, yet at the same time, it appeared they were worried about harming the flowers.
The scene was actually quite heartwarming!
However, Lian Yun knew that the Beetle was a type of Evil Spirit with extremely strong defensive abilities, so he was not swayed by the sight before him.
The main concern was that the numerous Red Flowers were about to mature.
Yet Lian Yun chose to retreat instead of advancing, lowering the vigilance of the two Beetles.
After waiting for nearly half an hour, when the Red Flower emitted a faint glow, two Glow Sticks shot out towards the backs of the two Beetles, drawing their attention.
In that instant, Lian Yun dashed forward to the Red Flower, plucked it, and shot upwards, shattering the iron cover above. Using Sword Intent to control the fragments, he shot downwards and then weaved through the ruins on the ground!
With twists and turns, he evaded the frenzied pursuit of the two Beetles and regrouped with Zhou Tong and the others!
However, upon seeing Lian Yun’s ‘lack of gains,’ Zhou Tong surprisingly did not show any signs of dissatisfaction. Instead, he nodded in acknowledgment and led everyone to retreat swiftly.
Perhaps he felt that Lian Yun understood how to adapt and respond to changing situations, which made him somewhat satisfied!
After a retreat that lasted about half an hour, they had successfully distanced themselves from the two crazed Beetle Demons.
Later, Zhou Tong arrived at a location infested with Evil Spirits and instructed Lian Yun to stay outside while their team entered for battle.
After nearly an hour of fighting, Zhou Tong's team finally succeeded in killing their target. This time, all five members emerged unscathed! However, Zhou Tong chose not to continue fighting!
Instead, they led everyone directly to an underground vault building—a large room with a significant depression in the center.
Upon entering, Zhou Tong and the other four took a seat in one corner, while Lian Yun curiously walked over to the edge of the depression.
There, he saw a large, soft, translucent mass that resembled a jellyfish. As Lian Yun approached, the part of the mass closest to him began to contract. When Lian Yun got nearer to the depression, the translucent mass surprisingly formed a crescent shape!
This piqued Lian Yun's curiosity. He circled around the depression, and it seemed as though the crescent-shaped translucent mass also rotated in response.
Lian Yun took out a Glow Stick and gently tugged at it. The entire translucent mass began to tremble violently, as if startled and filled with extreme fear!
What a strange creature! A playful thought crossed Lian Yun's mind as he reached to his waist and tossed a piece of nutrient leaf into the mass.
“Zhou Tong, where did you find this boy?”
A strange voice suddenly echoed, causing Lian Yun to become instantly alert!
