Chapter 70: Fengdu Night Ruthlessness
At night, the Spirits were hard to see. Below, four figures formed a circle, seemingly hacking wildly at the front, but in reality, they were protecting the two injured individuals lying on the ground.
"We can't hold on much longer; the Spirits are increasing. We need to find a way to retreat."
Once those words were spoken, the six-person team that had been supporting each other suddenly became restless. Yet their movements showed no hesitation.
The two fighters in battle instantly turned around, each thrusting their Sword One toward their fallen companions. The other two began attacking each other, while the two on the ground rolled away and sprinted in opposite directions, showing no signs of serious injury.
However, this sudden change among the six drew attention from the surrounding Spirits.
Many previously motionless discarded Artifacts, such as iron pipes, steel barrels, road signs, and iron railings, suddenly rose into the air and charged toward the six.
The six cursed at each other amidst injuries and cries of pain. Just as the battle was not yet over, Zhou Tong signaled to Lian Yun to leave.
Thus, the two quickly descended the stairs and silently slipped away.
After covering some distance, Zhou Tong suddenly asked, "How do you feel?"
"If they had cooperated from the beginning, they could have escaped this crisis long ago instead of ending up in a situation where death is imminent!" Lian Yun replied, feeling somewhat frustrated and helpless.
Initially, Lian Yun almost spoke up to offer a reminder or two but was taken aback by how incompetent the six had proven to be!
"Really? Is it true that if the Spirits detect our presence during Fengdu Night, we can actually escape?" Zhou Tong mocked lightly but without much displeasure.
In response, Lian Yun chose silence. He understood that what Zhou Tong said reflected dangers of Fengdu that he had yet to witness or experience. Thus, he remained quiet, waiting for Zhou Tong to show him more of what Fengdu Night had to offer.
However, what followed felt somewhat bizarre; or perhaps it was just that Zhou Tong gave Lian Yun an odd impression!
Before long, the two arrived at the edge of a low wall, where they saw one of the six earlier entangled by several Spirits. Then, a few Spirits detached from their original host and invaded that person's body.
The individual appeared to be in a frenzy, wearing a smile yet crying, tears streaming down his face. His expression oscillated between sorrow and uncontrollable laughter. His body twisted unnaturally, becoming grotesque; his limbs contorted as he crawled, or his hands twisted into a helix shape as they writhed on the ground.
Eventually, his body fell silent and paralyzed, and several Spirits floated out from the corpse.
At this moment, Zhou Tong signaled Lian Yun to leave. Shortly after they departed, Lian Yun heard a Spirit behind them say, "Hehe, so fun and tasty! Let's go find some more humans!"
In the third scene, two of the six, who had previously been healthy, suddenly turned on each other. It seemed they had completely forgotten their earlier betrayals and were now working together back-to-back to fend off several Spirits.
It appeared they had entrusted their lives to one another!
However, their strengths seemed nearly equal; they simultaneously opened an escape route. In an instant, they attacked each other again, and this time both strikes landed.
They exchanged incredulous looks: "You~~"
Then both were invaded by Spirits!
There was no need to witness what happened next; Zhou Tong quickly led Lian Yun away!
The fourth scene featured an injured individual hiding behind some cover, desperately trying to regulate his breathing and suppress his presence. However, a grotesque and malevolent face emerged from a metal plate above him.
The outcome was predictable: Zhou Tong took Lian Yun and left!
The fifth scene showed a person hiding in a cave being hunted by an Evil Spirit.
At this moment, Zhou Tong did not rush to leave but instead reached out and drew something in the air as if marking the location of the Evil Spirit's lair before finally departing with Lian Yun.
The sixth scene depicted the last injured person kneeling before several Spirits, pleading for mercy. He offered to become a Human Slave, willing to be controlled by them! But he only had one body and could only serve one master.
Several Spirits seemed intent on winning the loyalty of that person, and soon they were caught in a chaotic battle!
Seeing an opportunity, the person quickly fled, but the Spirits immediately abandoned their fight and pursued him, entering his body to torment him.
However, the Spirits did not kill him; instead, they twisted his limbs until he was unable to move. After that, they exited his body and resumed their chaotic battle once more.
In the end, the victorious Spirit re-entered the person's body, restoring his twisted form to normal. He walked with a charmingly sinister smile and hollow eyes, limping as he moved.
"Kill him!" Zhou Tong suddenly commanded!
Without hesitation, Lian Yun directed Sword Intent to launch a Sharp Stone at the person.
The stone pierced through his heart, causing him to collapse. Then, a Spirit emerged from his body, screaming in rage and despair, displaying its utmost fury!
Yet Zhou Tong shot an unsatisfied glance at Lian Yun before quickly leaving with him!
This was because Lian Yun had acted far too swiftly; just as Zhou Tong's command to kill was issued, Lian Yun had already struck. By the time Zhou Tong finished speaking, Lian Yun's attack had already hit the person.
To Zhou Tong, it seemed that Lian Yun had been prepared to act all along!
However, he had previously ordered Lian Yun not to intervene, even if it was his own command!
Nonetheless, Zhou Tong's dissatisfaction did not lead to any negative consequences; after all, he also wanted to destroy that person's body!
In today's world, many individuals lacked humanity and would prey on others. Most of these were people completely controlled by Spirits, while a smaller portion were inherently cruel.
Zhou Tong could not tolerate such beings' existence, and neither could Lian Yun.
In a sense, if Zhou Tong had not given the order, Lian Yun's evaluation of him would likely have dropped significantly or even been outright denied!
Fortunately, the two of them were in agreement!
The six scenes covered an area of over three hundred meters, showcasing Zhou Tong's abilities. However, it seemed as if Zhou Tong possessed a kind of foresight, always able to accurately locate the site of events!
To Lian Yun, this suggested that Zhou Tong's abilities were more complex than simply being within a radius of one hundred meters. Then, one Spirit seemed to have struck luck and quickly found the right direction, speeding toward Lian Yun and Zhou Tong!
This was why Zhou Tong forbade Lian Yun from meddling and insisted on leaving each scene in advance!
Trouble was too easy to attract!
The two were not incapable of defeating a few Spirits; rather, once a battle commenced, it would draw in more Spirits! At that point, they would be unable to escape unscathed. If they couldn't fight their way out, both could be in grave danger!
