Chapter 65: The Thought of a One-Hit Kill
The Well Opening did not allow the massive body of the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider to pass through, but its body had already been reduced to mush by Lian Yun, who forcefully dragged it to the ground.
Zhou Tong and the others arrived just in time. Zhou Tong, whose face still bore a hint of pallor, was taken aback when he saw Lian Yun bringing out the corpse. After a moment of surprise, he nodded and said, "I thought you would only bring out the Spirit Core. I figured you wouldn't understand the value of basic necessities, but it seems you do know."
"Uh..." Lian Yun feigned ignorance.
"You don't know the use of an Evil Spirit's corpse? Why bring it out?" Zhou Tong suddenly became angry, looking somewhat confused.
However, Lian Yun didn't mind too much and awkwardly smiled, saying, "This Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider doesn't have a Spirit Core. I brought it out so you wouldn't think I was being greedy."
"No Spirit Core? How is that possible?"
Jia Shuhua didn't believe it and quickly stepped forward to examine the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider's head. Seeing that its head had indeed been cleaved open by a 'sword', but there was no place left for a Spirit Core, she looked at Zhou Tong with some confusion.
"Stop thinking about it. This Evil Spirit was killed by the Cloud Emperor; its Spirit Core was completely consumed before it died. Take the flesh; we need to leave!"
Chen Tao and the others widened their eyes in disbelief but quickly took action without further discussion. The four of them swiftly pulled out a syringe-like device and inserted it into the corpse of the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider before 'drawing blood'.
Lian Yun was surprised to see that although they didn't extract much substance, the corpse of the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider rapidly dried up, soon becoming nothing more than skin.
Yet the four were left holding syringes filled with less than one-tenth of a milky-white liquid, staring at Lian Yun in disbelief!
This... Lian Yun felt innocent!
Zhou Tong explained for Lian Yun, "This concentrated essence is raw material for making concentrated nutrient tablets, and it's even better than those tablets themselves. It can not only stave off hunger but also quickly restore spiritual energy!"
"I see!" Lian Yun nodded.
But then Zhou Tong suddenly snapped back irritably, "Under normal circumstances, this Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider could yield four syringes worth of essence, equivalent to half a Spirit Core's value! You've wasted one and a half Spirit Cores!"
This was clearly more despicable than simply taking the Spirit Core without the body.
Lian Yun felt somewhat speechless, his face showing embarrassment, yet he was also puzzled as to why Zhou Tong, who had such strong self-discipline, was unable to control himself like this.
If Zhou Tong knew what Lian Yun was thinking, he would probably first order Lian Yun not to move, and then command the other four members of the team to capture Lian Yun and give him a good beating.
How could such strong physical abilities not have manifested earlier? It left me mentally scarred and emotionally unstable; this was his reason for wanting to beat up Lian Yun.
However, these were merely speculations. In reality, Zhou Tong had already begun to lead the way. Once he sensed that everyone had followed him, he said, “Our next target must be to obtain the Spirit Core!”
“Uh... I can’t guarantee that. We’ll need to try at least two or three more times before we can be sure!”
Having just learned how to acquire Purple Qi, Lian Yun certainly wouldn’t give up easily. However, while tormenting the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider, Lian Yun had gained some insights and had a plan in mind for quickly defeating the Evil Spirit without using spiritual power.
But this plan definitely needed some testing.
Thus, there was no hint of concealment in Lian Yun's words!
Zhou Tong paused slightly ahead but continued leading without saying much more.
Before long, they arrived at a manhole cover. Without hesitation, Lian Yun lifted the cover and jumped down!
“This...” Jia Shuhua felt somewhat speechless.
Zhou Tong merely shook his head slightly and said, “He might be venting!”
The combined schemes of the Demon Clan, the alliance, and even his own family—Zhou Tong couldn’t comprehend what that felt like, but he knew it must be unbearable.
Lian Yun had suppressed his emotions for three long years; it was only natural for him to feel the urge to vent.
If he didn’t let it out at all, it could lead to significant flaws in his character.
Zhou Tong certainly hoped that Lian Yun's personality could be a bit more fierce and domineering, but a character flaw does not necessarily equate to being ruthless and overbearing.
Thus, he tolerated Lian Yun's outbursts to a certain extent, but there were limits!
Just two or three Evil Spirits would suffice!
Moreover, Lian Yun indeed had the urge to vent; otherwise, given his temperament, he would never have resorted to tormenting opponents who were utterly defenseless.
Of course, the fact that Evil Spirits did not require mercy was one reason, but it was also greatly related to the repression he had experienced over the past three years.
As Lian Yun ventured into the sewer, he quickly found his second opponent—a cockroach the size of a calf.
This cockroach held the title of Hundred Lives Evil Spirit.
Due to its ability to survive even after losing its head, when transforming cockroaches into Evil Spirits, nearly ten identical Magnetorheological Fluids were 'installed' throughout its body. This allowed the Cockroach Demon to maintain its attack power even after decapitation. Losing a leg was inconsequential; even if its body was severed into two or three pieces, it could still attack.
It was indeed a terrifying type of Evil Spirit.
Cockroaches were among humanity's favorite choices for creating Evil Spirits because they were relentless on the battlefield and had the reputation of being nearly indestructible.
The Cockroach Demon crawled almost twice as fast as the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider, yet it was easier for Lian Yun to handle.
He hurried through the sewer, drawing the cockroach into pursuit while simultaneously searching for an entrance with iron bars.
Once he found it, he employed his usual tactics.
However, Lian Yun first relentlessly struck at the cockroach's 'neck' until he forcefully knocked off its head before attempting what he had in mind.
That was vibration.
During his torment of the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider, there was one instance when Lian Yun added a vibrating force during his strikes in a moment of indifference. The result showed that such an attack dealt considerable damage to the Ghost-Faced Wolf Spider!
Lian Yun contemplated whether the vibrations could disrupt the combination of the Evil Spirit and the Magnetorheological Fluid.
If that were true, then by controlling a specific frequency of vibration, could it be possible to eliminate the Evil Spirit in one swift move without using spiritual power?
In this regard, the Cockroach Demon was undoubtedly the best choice for experimentation.
Thus, when Lian Yun saw this second opponent, a sense of unexpected joy filled him.
After swatting off the cockroach's head, Lian Yun continued to strike at its body. When its headless form stopped flailing about like a headless fly, he targeted its legs.
Although its body had lost strength, its legs seemed to move independently, kicking and thrashing wildly. Given their sharpness, they could cause significant damage on a chaotic battlefield.
Lian Yun methodically struck each leg until they all lay still.
Then, with a smile on his face, he picked up the cockroach's head with his sword and carried its body back to the ground to reunite with Zhou Tong and the others.
Of course, in this battle, Lian Yun also collected quite a bit of Deep Blue Light!
