Chapter 5: The Sword God of This Era
As Lian Yun and the others emerged, the battlefield ahead fell into an instant silence, with both humans and Spirits on high alert, their eyes glinting with a predatory gaze.
This time, however, it was Mu Realm that found itself under the watchful eyes of the pack of tigers, rather than Lian Yun and his companions.
Just because Divine Sword Mountain was difficult to ascend did not mean that the precious Spirit Sword was equally hard to seize. For those as weak as Mu Realm, they were practically the ideal targets for acquiring the Spirit Sword.
Although Lian Yun had also obtained a precious sword, he was escorted by six Monarchs. Neither humans nor spirits dared to provoke them, knowing that in battle, those six powerful Monarchs would show no mercy, whether against humans or spirits.
Even the most reckless individuals or the most irrational spirits would think twice before challenging Lian Yun’s group.
Yet even while traveling alongside Lian Yun, they still sought to claim the sword from Mu Realm, simply because such treasures were exceedingly rare.
However, Mu Realm showed no fear whatsoever.
With a fierce expression and a powerful aura radiating from him, he gripped his sword tightly. The Now Absolute resonated with his will, and his sword energy surged forth, enveloping his blade in a fierce glow.
“Spirit Sword!” one spirit screamed as the Myriad Ghosts retreated.
This was because the spirit of the sword could be seen as a unique form of Magnetorheological Fluid, which had an absolute counter against the memory-based Magnetorheological Fluid. Many Spirits had encountered or fought against Mu Realm before and were well aware of his ferocity and capabilities; thus, they dared not face his edge and chose to withdraw instead.
On the other hand, nearly all human beings on the battlefield displayed greedy expressions.
Even if they were also ‘loners’, they felt their status was equal to that of Mu Realm, let alone those who had family or factions to rely on.
“No need for your help!”
Mu Realm glanced at Lian Yun and his companions before turning back, stepping forward with his sword raised: “Come if you wish to die!”
Such a display of dominance was truly extraordinary.
“Seeking death!”
“Arrogant~~”
“Hand over the Spirit Sword, and I might spare your life!”
“If you submit, I will let you live!”
In front of them, many disciples from Major Power spoke domineeringly.
In fact, many of those present, including Lian Yun, were familiar with each other, as most hailed from the Noble Family in the capital. However, since they pretended not to know one another, Lian Yun and the others saw no need to speak further.
Faced with such arrogance, Mu Realm responded simply by gripping his long sword. With a swift motion, he struck down and then declared, “Broken Sword!”
Immediately, all those who had drawn their swords were thrown into disarray; those who had released their swords were utterly horrified. They felt as if they were unworthy to even hold a sword in front of Mu Realm.
However, Lian Yun's side also fell into chaos in an instant.
“Dugu Nine Swords! So it turns out Brother Mu is a disciple of Uncle Yi!” Lian Yun exclaimed, his eyes filled with envy.
Dugu Nine Swords was originally a martial arts sword technique, but the contemporary Sword God Dongfang Yi possessed skills that seemed almost divine. He had created ten unique sword techniques based solely on the descriptions in the book.
On top of Dugu Nine Swords, he added a tenth technique that gathered the abilities of the previous nine swords, named Break Weapon Style.
To put it simply, Break Weapon Style could counter all Spirits attached to Artifact, making it fearless against any ghostly presence; this demonstrated the formidable power of the sword technique.
Although there were ten techniques in total, out of respect for the author, Dongfang Yi chose to name his sword art Dugu Nine Swords.
The fame of Dongfang Yi extended beyond just Dugu Nine Swords, which was merely created to combat Spirits attached to Artifact. His title as Sword God was earned through several sets of powerful sword techniques.
It is said that with just one sword strike from Dongfang Yi, even the mightiest Demon Emperor would retreat in fear.
Lastly, what made Lian Yun and many others worship him so fervently was that he was the only person in the world, from ancient times to the present, capable of flying using Sword Control.
“Dugu Nine Swords? Uncle Yi? Could it be that Brother Yun is referring to the Sword God Dongfang Yi?” Mu Realm, who had taken a step back after a sword strike, asked in confusion.
“You don’t know? Then how could you have learned the Sword God’s Dugu Nine Swords?” Lin Nan scoffed, feeling that the other’s pretense was quite ridiculous.
However, Mu Realm shook his head and replied, “I truly don’t know. I just happened to pick up a few sword techniques.”
“Impossible! You brat—do you have any idea that the Sword God’s techniques are never passed down? My brother, despite being such a prodigy back then, begged the Sword God for a long time, but he refused to teach him. How could you have casually learned them? Just a few moves?” Lin Nan shouted, utterly ashamed of Mu Realm's pretentiousness.
But Lian Yun raised his hand to stop him, shaking his head. “Nan, there’s no need for Mu Brother to deceive us! It seems Uncle Yi recognized Mu Brother’s exceptional swordsmanship and, not wanting to let such talent go to waste while having no intention of taking on disciples, secretly taught him a few sword techniques!”
“A few moves?” Lian Yun emphasized the words heavily, his eyes filled with envy.
Seeing that even the renowned Cloud Emperor was so envious of him made Mu Realm feel somewhat awkward. After a moment of silence, he reluctantly admitted, “It’s indeed only four moves!”
“Four moves? And that’s all? Brother, I’ve gained some insight today. I never expected there would be someone in this world more infuriating than you!” Lin Nan exclaimed in frustration.
However, Lian Yun looked speechless. What kind of statement was that—there’s someone more infuriating than you? He glanced at Lin Feiyu and the others, who surprisingly wore expressions of agreement and nodded along.
Both Lian Yun and Mu Realm exchanged awkward glances, left without words.
Just then, ahead of them on the battlefield, a sword aura swept across the scene and split into two as it reached Mu Realm, forming a pathway that divided the entire battlefield.
The sword aura lacked any sharpness; instead, it exuded an elegant demeanor that felt refreshing like a spring breeze.
Yet on either side of the pathway, both Spirits and humans hurriedly retreated in panic.
Thus, Lian Yun and the others saw two figures several hundred meters away on the other side of the battlefield. Although they couldn’t see clearly, one was undoubtedly Lin Nan; the other was an extraordinarily handsome Tall Man.
The person who had made the move was not the Sword God. However, seeing the chaotic state of battle around them still left Lian Yun and the others in awe!
The figure ahead chuckled and scolded, “Why aren’t you coming over?”
His smile stemmed from the satisfaction on Lian Yun's face, radiating an air of contentment without any regrets.
Although not unfamiliar with the strongest warrior of Huaxia, it was still a rare sight, prompting Lin Feiyu and the others to quicken their pace.
However, Mu Realm hesitated in place, his eyes filled with uncertainty.
He couldn't comprehend why the Sword God had taken an interest in him and even offered to impart his teachings.
"Come on! Even though you look ugly, every ugly woman must eventually meet her husband! Let's go," Lin Nan urged, glancing back.
Well! Now he had another person to intentionally oppose.
It should be noted that despite Mu Realm's bloodied appearance, if one considered his facial structure, he could easily be a handsome young man with fair skin and a bit of tidying up to his somewhat messy hair. If he had darker skin, he would still be a valiant warrior; he was hardly ugly.
Clearly, Lin Nan was being deliberately difficult.
Nevertheless, upon hearing his words, Mu Realm stepped forward.
With the Monarch leading the way, the group moved smoothly through the battlefield.
