Chapter 4 Armed
After practicing his swordsmanship several times, Lian Yun stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the bright moon, slowly dispelling the loneliness within his heart.
He then returned to the Pavilion and began to examine the set of gear sent by the ghosts.
The Lin Family had tailored this Armed specifically for him, searching for and even creating it, which made its extraordinary nature evident.
However, upon closer inspection, Lian Yun felt a mix of shock and gratitude.
This was a set of Armed that approached the level of a Monarch. Although it was not a Monarch set, some pieces of equipment surpassed those of the Monarch set.
First was a Battle Suit.
It felt delicate and smooth to the touch, yet had a texture reminiscent of sandpaper.
Typically, a Battle Suit consists of at least three layers: an outer layer for heat insulation and fire resistance, and an inner layer that is more advanced, featuring countless tiny pores that align with the body's skin. This design allows for an unobstructed perception of various scents in the air. Additionally, if injured, the suit automatically stabilizes the wound, preventing a sudden loss of combat effectiveness. Lastly, it does not interfere with combat under the Ghost Battle Body.
The middle layer was a special Electrostatic Net.
In scientific terms, Spirit could be explained as a type of special Magnetorheological Fluid, which can be considered a unique form of electric current. Thus, this layer of static electricity is designed to prevent Spirit from invading one's body.
However, since Lian Yun had mastered Sword Intent, he no longer needed this protection; therefore, his Battle Suit only had two layers.
While it was lighter as a result, its toughness was astonishing. When Lian Yun pulled on the long sleeves, they extended over a meter in length.
It seemed that even if Lian Yun continued to grow taller and increase in size, this combat suit would pose no issues. As long as it did not become torn or damaged, it could likely serve him for a lifetime.
However, since this was custom-made for Lian Yun, the all-black battle suit naturally had some special features.
First, there were two inner pockets on the chest area, one in the front and one in the back, specifically designed to hold the Cloud Emperor's Order and Nirvana Order tokens. The other two pockets were equal in size, meant to accommodate any additional tokens Lian Yun might acquire in the future.
This was likely also a precaution to prevent Lian Yun from being caught off guard.
Secondly, at the cuffs near the wrists, there were two flat circular rings.
These rings were common in standard suits and were known as "Spider-Man." Their function was something that a twenty-first-century human could easily guess without much explanation.
Although Armed Ghost Hunters possessed extraordinary abilities, they were still human and could not achieve instantaneous flight. For longer-distance movements, they needed these highly elastic soft rubber Spider-Man rings.
Typically, a regular Spider-Man setup had only three soft rubbers, with each flat ring having three openings. However, Lian Yun's battle suit featured nine openings in total, allowing for eighteen soft rubbers, significantly enhancing its operability.
Additionally, because it lacked the most complex and easily damaged central electrostatic layer, Lian Yun's suit gained two extra functions.
The first was relatively minor: it had a function to expel bodily fluids. This meant that during combat, if there was not a trace of sweat under the suit, it could prevent any unnecessary mishaps for Lian Yun.
The second function was its stretchability. While most battle suits had some degree of stretchiness, they typically only conformed closely to the body. In contrast, Lian Yun's suit could expand to be as loose as a t-shirt.
Lian Yun believed this feature was designed by his uncles to prevent outsiders from determining his identity based on his physique.
As for the battle suit, Lian Yun donned it directly before switching into a pair of combat boots.
The combat boots generally had two main functions: first, they contained air cushions to enhance jumping ability; second, they provided grip to improve an Armed Ghost Hunter's ability to scale walls.
Slightly more advanced combat boots even allowed individuals to walk on walls.
The pair of boots that Lian Yun possessed was not only essential but also had to fulfill two specific functions, and their effectiveness was certainly beyond the ordinary Armed boots.
These boots had an additional feature: air cushion inflation!
The air cushion could expand like a balloon, enhancing the Armed Ghost Hunter's ability to walk in water.
It was important to note that Spirits could drift; without the capability to operate in various environments, the abilities of an Armed Ghost Hunter would be significantly diminished.
Under normal circumstances, having a combat suit, boots, and a Ghost Group would qualify one as a professional Armed Ghost Hunter.
From there, individuals could add various weapons or special equipment based on their personal abilities or preferences.
Lian Yun's set included a belt, which was meticulously and precisely crafted.
At the center of the belt was a flat, round iron box without any patterns.
Inside the box was a steel wire several hundred meters long, functioning similarly to Spider-Man's web. This was designed to prevent issues in hot or fiery environments. After all, even though Spider-Man's soft rubber is excellent, it is still a gel-like substance that can undergo some degree of degradation when exposed to heat. The steel wire served as a precaution.
On either side of the iron box were nearly a hundred very thin pockets. One side typically stored high-concentration vitamin nutrient tablets; with enough water, one tablet could meet an individual's needs while also quickly restoring physical stamina.
The other side contained various concentrated pills. There were several high-performance Antidotes since Spirits were not afraid of biological toxins and often used potent poisons against Armed Ghost Hunters. There were also Hemostatic Tablets for emergencies.
The slots on the belt had limited capacity due to its width and thickness, so Lian Yun knew that the High-Concentration Vitamin Nutrient Tablets and various pills on her belt would be significantly more effective than ordinary ones.
For instance, one nutrient tablet could sustain more than two people's needs.
Additionally, there were several elastic bands and hooks attached to the belt for further utility.
Lian Yun fiddled with dozens of small objects in a box. Finally, she selected two thumb-sized Purification Sticks, five finger-sized Power Glow Sticks, and three special Ghost Smoke Bombs. In total, she gathered ten rod-like alloy components and secured them onto her belt.
For the hooks, Lian Yun chose to hang three stacks of strip-like objects. She also included three folded sheets of skin-colored soft rubber.
As for the other items, although they had significant uses, Lian Yun decided not to take them all.
The Purification Sticks were essential due to the severe pollution in the wilderness, making it difficult to find clean water sources. Many people, in desperate times, would not hesitate to purify their bodily fluids to obtain some drinkable water.
The Glow Sticks were naturally for nighttime illumination, while the Ghost Smoke Bombs were used for defense against Incorporeal Ghosts.
Although Incorporeal Ghosts were extremely rare, one could never be too cautious when venturing outside.
The strip-like objects were somewhat sinister and cruel in nature when it came to Spirits. Typically, Armed Ghost Hunters did not favor using them.
However, when out in the field, one might encounter special or incomprehensible situations. To gain certain unknown information, carrying these strip-like objects became necessary. Moreover, if they were needed, at least a dozen to several dozen would be required.
The three sheets of skin-colored soft rubber served as Masks.
