Chapter 1: Sword Mountain and Chen Er Gou
In front of the Cloud Emperor, Liu Haitao felt embarrassed that the ghost he had purchased for a hefty sum was so foolish. He tugged at Lian Yun's arm and said, "This ghost is truly useless; let's have Young Master Yun go into the palace to see if there are any more useful ghosts!"
However, when he pulled, he found that Lian Yun did not budge at all. Instead, his forceful tug caused a sharp pain in his own arm, leaving Liu Haitao both shocked and confused.
"Hey~ Although my brother's spiritual power is currently lacking, his martial skills aren't bad. Otherwise, why would we need a Ghost Slave?" Lin Feiyu thought to himself, secretly giving a thumbs up to Lin Nan for his performance today.
This made it clear to everyone that whether it was the conversation where Xue Steward made things difficult for Lin Feiyu or Lian Yun's purpose for coming here, it was all easily understood!
Moreover, this understanding was not something they actively communicated; rather, it was subtly implied, allowing outsiders to guess Lian Yun's intentions on their own. This led them to feel confident that their assumptions were correct.
Most importantly, everyone knew that Lian Yun was highly skilled in martial arts; otherwise, the alliance wouldn't have chosen him as the attendant for the next Alliance Tournament champion.
At this moment, silence spoke volumes, reducing many unnecessary troubles for Lian Yun and misdirecting outsiders' speculations about him. It also provided the best explanation for Lian Yun's upcoming journey to Divine Sword Mountain.
Just then, a ghost with a 'third-rate' aura floated out from Lian Yun's chest and rose to the same height as Sword Mountain's head.
"Hey, why are you so foolish? If you can't figure it out, just don't think about it. Just know that as long as I'm around, you'll always have food to eat. Now hurry up and sign a contract with my boss!"
Everyone couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Setting aside whether Big Head Ghost's hasty words were useful or not, even if Big Head Ghost landed on Sword Mountain's shoulder, he would still appear minuscule. Yet here he was calling Sword Mountain a 'ghost head,' not even a top ghost—this was genuinely amusing.
What was even more astonishing was that Sword Mountain nodded in agreement, looking at Big Head Ghost with admiration while a mysterious cloud floated from his forehead.
"Birds of a feather flock together; only similar beings can communicate!" Lian Yun said with an expression of disbelief.
"Young Master Yun, please think carefully. What if you regain your spiritual power in the future?" Liu Haitao suddenly advised, his eyes filled with concern and hope.
Even if one were to dissolve the contract by lowering the Ghost Slave's realm, it could still pose certain dangers to people.
If there were no harm, then this world would not exist. There is no limit to the number of Ghost Slaves an individual can have.
Because if breaking the contract poses no threat to a person, one could continuously sign contracts and release them at critical moments, avoiding the damage caused by the Ghost Slave's demise!
Liu Haitao clearly had Lian Yun's future in mind. Lian Yun felt grateful but shook his head firmly, saying, "Even if my spiritual power returns to its peak, I will not abandon Sword Mountain!"
This statement also contained hidden implications!
Returning to peak condition does not mean he currently lacks spiritual power; it simply means he has not yet regained his former level!
This was also why Lian Yun did not want to deceive Liu Haitao; otherwise, he would have said that even if he regained his spiritual power in the future...
Liu Haitao did not think much of it. Seeing Lian Yun's determination, he ceased his persuasion.
Thus, Lian Yun swallowed the cloud-like mass and signed a contract with Sword Mountain!
Once Sword Mountain was released from its box, Big Head Ghost immediately sat on Sword Mountain's shoulder, swinging his legs joyfully and saying, "Boss, boss, don't you think my little brother here looks mighty!"
Sword Mountain wore a simple and agreeable expression.
The onlookers were left in a state of confusion.
Since Ghost Slaves were not allowed to appear in the city, Lian Yun put away Big Head and Sword Mountain!
It was still that black ring, but instead of being worn on his hand, it was strung into a necklace around his neck. In Lin Dong's words, it provided a good living environment for the Ghost Slaves.
Then the group stepped into Cloud Emperor Palace!
At that moment, Lin Nan's face turned red!
The interior resembled an establishment of ill repute; the furniture was luxurious, and the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. In the nearly translucent partitions, numerous exposed figures moved about, with seductive spirits playfully mingling and deliberately flattering various distinguished guests amidst laughter and cheer.
“Liu Boss, you dishonor my brother's name!” Lin Feiyu's expression darkened slightly, though he showed little anger.
This was simply a normal occurrence in such places, common in cities around the world. He was merely displeased that Liu Haitao was using Lian Yun's name to run such an establishment!
Liu Haitao's face fell, but he nodded without arguing, then led everyone onward.
“Hey! Liu Boss, do you have any better merchandise? Don’t worry about the young master not having money!” A man from a nearby booth shouted arrogantly.
Liu Haitao hurried forward, respectfully saying, “How could that be? Young Master Yu is here to give Liu some face. Talking about money would hurt our feelings. I truly haven’t encountered any exceptional female spirits lately; I hope Young Master Yu can be understanding!”
“I thought you rushed out just now because—uh—never mind, Liu Boss, you go ahead and take care of your business!”
“Yes, yes, yes—Liu takes his leave!”
Liu Haitao returned, nodding at Lian Yun and the others before continuing to lead the way.
However, just as they were about to reach the center of the hall, Lian Yun suddenly stopped in his tracks!
In the center was a water pool with a transparent box displayed independently. Inside the box was an ordinary-looking spirit with a thin body.
The monster’s level was so low that it didn’t even qualify to sign a contract with a human or possess the ability to split its soul for such an agreement!
The spirit struggled within the box, roaring at every passerby.
Though no sound escaped, Lian Yun and the others could read its lips and understand what it was trying to convey!
“Buy me! Buy me! Dear sirs and madams, buy me! I’m willing to work like a horse or an ox, obeying orders without complaint—never betraying!”
Looking at its price tag: one hundred thousand gold!
“Liu Boss, this spirit is asking for one hundred thousand gold. Does it have any special abilities?” Lin Nan asked curiously.
Liu Haitao shook his head and sighed, "This ghost is named Chen Er Gou. He appeared before me, asking to be sold! He wants to buy a house in the capital for his mother and sister, so they can live a comfortable life!"
"Is he a new ghost?" Lin Feiyu asked.
A new ghost refers to one whose family is still alive, typically someone who has died recently.
In modern times, spirits are generally considered to be those from the post-Qing Dynasty era in China. However, in the past century, due to the rampant emergence of spirits worldwide, it has become easier for souls to transform into spirits after death.
Liu Haitao nodded and continued, "I agreed because of his filial piety. I never intended to imprison him, but he clung to anyone who came near, begging customers to buy him. Several times, he nearly scared people out of their wits. I had no choice but to confine him!"
"Boss Liu, I'll take him!"
"Young Master Lin, about Chen Er Gou..."
Lin Feiyu shook his head with a bitter expression and then pointed at Chen Er Gou before gesturing towards Lian Yun.
Inside the box, Chen Er Gou was bowing repeatedly towards Lian Yun, who nodded gently with a warm expression.
