Chapter 5: The Great Use of Purple Qi in Ghosts
To be honest, Lian Yun did not expect that the Box within him would 'gain ground inch by inch.' However, he did not explain this; instead, he looked at Grandma beside him and asked, "Grandma, how much Purple Qi can you absorb at a time?"
"Less than one-tenth!" Grandma smiled kindly, but a hint of regret lingered in her expression, unnoticed by Lian Yun.
Lian Yun nodded and soon left the courtyard. After bowing to the place where the long sword was buried, he returned to his own courtyard, sat cross-legged in the Pavilion, and focused his mind inward.
As soon as he entered, Lian Yun was left speechless and conflicted. He saw four ghostly figures sprawled on the ground within the misty Box filled with Purple Qi, their expressions utterly indescribable.
Three men and one woman lay on the ground looking bewildered. Although Lian Yun's thoughts were not so muddled as to question life itself, he still found it hard to comprehend why Big Head and the Three Spirits were in such a state!
However, Lian Yun felt that he had gained a certain level of control over the Box.
As the Box continuously absorbed Purple Qi, Lian Yun realized that he could control some of its abilities.
He could partially control the Box to decompose incoming Spirits, regulate the intensity of Big Head and the Three Spirits' compressed realms, conceal part of the Box's realm aura, and finally control the Spiritual Energy flowing from the Ghost Slaves—either storing it or directly enhancing his own realm.
This newfound capability thrilled Lian Yun to no end. With these powers at his disposal, his chances of achieving Ultimate Ascension to Kingship suddenly seemed very high.
However, Lian Yun decided not to experiment just yet. He cast another helpless glance at Big Head and the Three Spirits before withdrawing his mind and returning to his cultivation.
The grayish substance decomposed from nearly thirty Ghost Kings was immense. Although there were now Three Spirits added into the mix, along with Big Head, it was still difficult for all four Spirits to absorb it all at once.
The main issue remained whether it was due to Lian Yun's own limitations; neither Big Head nor the Three Spirits could elevate themselves to Demon King Realm.
Thus, the digestive capacity of the four Spirits was not particularly strong.
Nevertheless, Lian Yun did not demand more. He felt a great sense of satisfaction as he sensed his body being filled with energy at every moment.
In the following days, Lian Yun moved back and forth between his courtyard and Grandma's courtyard without venturing outside or seeking interaction with others, appearing somewhat reclusive.
On the Seventh Day, although Lian Yun's control over the Box within him was growing stronger, its demands for Purple Qi were becoming increasingly insistent. By the time the Seventh Day arrived, the amount of Purple Qi it required had nearly reached ninety percent.
As the Eighth Day approached, Lian Yun no longer went to the courtyard where Grandma resided; instead, he chose to sit quietly in his own courtyard.
However, these seemingly ordinary days brought significant gains for Lian Yun. It seemed that the Box had absorbed enough Purple Qi to forcibly leave a surge of spiritual energy within Lian Yun's body, granting him the abilities of a Dingxia Armed Ghost Hunter.
Though he was the weakest type of Armed Ghost Hunter, Lian Yun possessed strong physical capabilities and impressive martial skills, making it no challenge at all to confront an ordinary D-Class King.
Despite having gained spiritual power, Lian Yun did not remove his glasses; instead, he continued to wear them as a form of disguise.
Another unexpected gain came after he acquired spiritual power: Lian Yun discovered that he unexpectedly possessed Sword Intent.
Sword Intent was a form of Martial Intent. Among all the Monarchs in the world, only about half possessed Martial Intent, highlighting just how rare it truly was.
Martial Intent could not be obtained easily and could not be passed down. Thus, Lian Yun concluded that he had unknowingly cultivated Sword Intent over the past three years; it was just that his body had been too weak to bear or express it fully, which was why he had not noticed it before.
Now that his body had received some nourishment, his Sword Intent could finally manifest.
He was overjoyed—truly overjoyed—but Lian Yun did not rush to cultivate his Sword Intent; instead, he focused on understanding it deeply.
After sitting in meditation for a day, the Box finished absorbing all the Purple Qi. Big Head and the Three Spirits finally regained full consciousness and appeared beside Lian Yun.
"Boss, boss! Look at what’s different about us! Come on, take a look!" Big Head exclaimed as he circled around Lian Yun in excitement.
In response, Lian Yun picked up Big Head Ghost, who was only as tall as an arm and as small as an infant, examining him closely from all angles.
Yet he still couldn't discern anything unusual!
It was Three Spirits who smiled mysteriously. Ding Tie, Ding Gang, and Ding Lan raised their hands and swiftly detached their arms, causing Lian Yun's heart to ache.
What Lian Yun did not expect was that the arm detached from Ding Tie, Ding Gang, and Ding Lan did not simply vanish. Instead, it seemed to exist independently, its five fingers pressing against the ground and moving around the courtyard. After a while, the arm returned to Ding Tie, Ding Gang, and Ding Lan, reattaching itself seamlessly.
This situation surprised Lian Yun. "Immortal?"
The Immortal Ghost Body was an extraordinary ability. The reason Yin Yang City could stand firm against the Demon Clan and the human race was largely due to the presence of many immortal entities.
However, Ding Lan explained, "It's not immortality. The Purple Qi we encountered in the Box recently is quite special. It's similar to the relationship between humans and Spiritual Energy; it allows us to cultivate. Not only can it keep our Ghost Bodies separate without disbanding, but it also grants us the ability to control our own realms!"
"Wow! This seems even better than immortality!" Lian Yun exclaimed in awe.
Under normal circumstances, Spirits grow by devouring other Spirits, achieving breakthroughs through quantitative changes leading to qualitative changes. This process wastes a massive amount of resources and can lead to instability in their foundations.
Thus, the Three Spirits felt that the Box within Lian Yun was a treasure.
Now, if Big Head and the Three Spirits could cultivate and break through like humans, they would be nearly indistinguishable from them and might achieve unimaginable accomplishments in the future.
However, upon reflection, Lin Jin's rebirth through Purple Qi indicated that Purple Qi had the ability to reorganize and adjust souls (Magnetorheological Fluid) as well as revive physical bodies. Therefore, it wasn't surprising that Purple Qi had such effects on Big Head and the Three Spirits.
Still, Lian Yun maintained a serious expression. "Unless absolutely necessary, you should refrain from using that Purple Qi for now. Wait until I find a method for you to absorb it freely."
The Three Spirits nodded solemnly, and even the impatient Big Head Ghost had no objections.
They wouldn't question why they could access it before but not now; they simply knew their master would not be stingy with them. If it wasn't available now, then it truly wasn't.
It seemed like a rare occasion for them to be out; Big Head and the Three Spirits had no intention of immediately returning to Lian Yun's Box.
So the Three Spirits floated around the courtyard while Big Head Ghost lay on Lian Yun's head, chattering away!
"Boss, what are your plans next? I've regained some strength and can help you fight!"
"How about we do what we used to do and battle outside the city? Even though we have Ding Tie and his brothers now, I still need more siblings! We should gather some more!"
"Hopefully, we can gather ten people again, no, I mean twenty ghosts!"
"Boss, do you know? I feel like my abilities are stronger than before. I will definitely be able to protect you better in the future!"
Within the Ghost Group, the Ghost Slaves have merged to form the Ghost Battle Body, which requires a Leader of Ghosts. The stronger their coordination ability, the faster they can condense the phantom and the more precise it becomes, making it harder to disperse.
In this regard, the Big Head Ghost possesses natural talent and stands out among coordinators. Even without any combat power, he is an extremely valuable presence.
Now that he has actually improved his abilities, if outsiders were to find out, Lian Yun would probably be in danger again.
However, Lian Yun was not worried but did agree with Big Head Ghost's reasoning!
Currently, Big Head and the Three Spirits can also merge, but the resulting Ghost Battle Body is only about three or four meters tall at most. Going to Evil Spirit City might pose some problems, let alone heading to Yin Yang City!
He indeed needed to find more Ghost Slaves.
With this thought in mind, Lian Yun stood up, called back the Three Spirits into his body, and then headed out towards the Underground Training Room.
