After a long and arduous march, when they finally arrived at the camp location, everyone was utterly exhausted. The mercenaries quickly and skillfully set up makeshift tents; their movements were slightly sluggish, yet they maintained the efficiency expected of soldiers. As night fully descended, the temperature in the jungle dropped rapidly. The previously stifling and humid air now felt unusually cold, and the evening breeze brought a biting chill that made everyone shiver involuntarily. 0

Raja swiftly built a fire in the center of the camp. The flames leaped high, dispelling some of the cold and adding a touch of life to the eerie jungle. However, after igniting the fire, Raja did not immediately join the others to warm himself; instead, he sincerely knelt before the flames, murmuring softly as he recited an ancient prayer. 0

The others were drawn to his actions. Whether it was Isabella, Jonas, or the battle-hardened mercenaries, they couldn't help but turn their gazes toward Raja. This seemingly tough warrior now displayed an extreme devotion, as if he were beseeching an invisible force for protection. 0

The firelight danced on everyone's faces, reflecting their exhaustion and unease. After a whole day of trekking, their physical and mental limits had been reached; even the well-trained mercenaries were now utterly spent. They sat silently around the fire, devoid of their usual banter and teasing, unable to muster even a single sarcastic remark. 0

Jonas sat by the fire, feeling its warmth spread through his body but still unable to shake off the chill in his heart. His gaze fell upon Raja, feeling a twinge of unease at the local guide's behavior. Raja's prayer was low and continuous, carrying a mysterious rhythm as if he were communicating with some ancient presence within the jungle. This sensation made Jonas feel that there was an incomprehensible power hidden deep within this jungle, something beyond mere natural dangers. 0

Isabella quietly moved closer to the fire, wrapping her arms around herself in an attempt to draw more warmth from the flames. Watching Raja's devout demeanor filled her with an uncontrollable sense of anxiety. Although she had always placed her faith in science, she could not entirely dismiss the invisible pressure that loomed over them in this jungle. Her eyes occasionally scanned the surrounding darkness as if some unknown terror lurked within those unfathomable shadows. 0

A cold wind blew from deep within the jungle, bringing an unusual chill that sharply contrasted with the day's oppressive heat, making everyone more alert and ready for any potential emergencies. Yet this moment of tranquility felt exceptionally heavy, preventing them from truly relaxing. Each person understood that this was merely a brief pause in their journey; real challenges awaited them ahead. 0

Raja's prayer finally came to an end as he stood up from the ground, still wearing a serious expression on his face. He whispered something to the flames as if seeking good fortune for their upcoming journey. Although no one could understand his language, everyone felt the reverence and fear hidden behind his words. 0

The group gathered around the fire, enjoying its faint warmth as if that blazing flame was their last barrier against the dangers of this perilous jungle. However, Mocus remained distant in the shadows, keeping his distance from the rest of the team. He coldly observed his teammates by the fire, his eyes revealing a sense of strangeness and detachment. 0

Voices echoed in his mind once more, whispering with an irresistible pressure: "Don't go near there; the flames will harm us." Mocus felt an involuntary fear and aversion toward the fire; this sensation was so intense it nearly made him shudder. His heart raced and his body trembled slightly—not just from the cold but from an indescribable fear spreading within him. 0

He tried to fight against this fear; reason told him it was absurd—after all, the fire not only provided warmth but also warded off lurking dangers in the dark. Yet this rational voice was quickly drowned out by whispers in his mind. The voice grew deeper and more aggressive, like a snake lurking in his consciousness slowly devouring his sanity. 0

Mocus's gaze involuntarily shifted toward a nearby cave entrance; that unfathomable dark crevice seemed to silently beckon him. Even though he stayed away from the firelight, he could still clearly hear whispers emanating from deep within the cave—an evil presence calling out to him. The call was sometimes clear and sometimes vague, like a force tearing at his soul—intense and sinister. 0

Accompanying that call was a series of chilling sounds, the gnawing and writhing noises as if countless restless creatures were whispering in his ear. These sounds clung to him like a festering wound; no matter how hard he tried, he could not drive them away. Each bite echoed like a sharp blade slicing through his nerves, making him want to cover his ears, but he knew it would be futile, for these sounds came from the depths of his own heart and could not be silenced. 0

Mocus stood there, seemingly swallowed by darkness, completely cut off from the flames behind him. His eyes stared blankly in the direction of the cave, filled with conflicting emotions. He was both terrified of the unknown abyss and irresistibly drawn to it, as if it held the truth he had been seeking all along. 0

"Do you hear it?" The voice in his mind echoed again, laced with mocking laughter. "Everything we want to know is there, if only you dare to approach..." 0

Mocus's heartbeat quickened, and his breath became shallow. The voice seemed to compel him to make a decision, urging him recklessly toward the unknown darkness. Yet the last shred of reason within him froze him in place, rendering him unable to move. 0
