Have you ever encountered the "Ghostly Veil"? Folklore suggests that the "Ghostly Veil" refers to a phenomenon where spirits use ghostly hands or energies to obscure a person's vision. 0

When the "Ghostly Veil" occurs, individuals experience visual impairments, unable to see the true scene before them. 0

For instance, someone walking at night might suddenly find their surroundings blurred, leading to hallucinations or being guided toward dangerous places, such as riverbanks or cliffs, ultimately causing harm. 0

This incident took place in 1995 on a rural road in Mutual Aid Village, Wafang Town, Baicheng City, Jilin Province. 0

On that day, Li Zongping was riding his Flying Pigeon bicycle to the county for errands. By the time he returned to the village, darkness had already fallen. 0

At that time, there were no streetlights on the dirt roads in the countryside, and after dark, there were basically no pedestrians around. 0

As he passed by a cornfield at the eastern edge of the village, he suddenly spotted a bicycle lying on the ground. From its appearance, it seemed to belong to his neighbor, Song Rentou. 0

Li Zongping found this very strange; what could Song be doing in the cornfield at this late hour? 0

Just then, he heard rustling sounds coming from within the cornfield, as if someone was moving around inside. 0

Curious, he ventured closer and indeed saw Song Rentou walking into the cornfield. After a moment, Song emerged again but then abruptly turned around and walked back in. This back-and-forth continued as if he were endlessly circling within the cornfield. 0

Li Zongping focused intently and noticed that Song's face and clothes were scratched by the corn leaves, with blood even seeping out. Yet he seemed completely oblivious to it all. Li Zongping called out to him several times, but it was as if Song had not heard anything; there was no response whatsoever. 0

Realizing that Song Rentou might be under some malevolent influence, Li Zongping rushed forward and grabbed him. No matter how much he shook him, Song remained unresponsive, as if he had lost consciousness entirely. 0

Li Zongping saw that there was no other way and raised his hand to give Song Rentou two hard slaps. After a few hits, Song Rentou suddenly regained consciousness, but he had no memory of what had just happened. It took him a while to realize that his whole body was in pain. Li Zongping then recounted the events that had just transpired. 0

Hearing about his own experience made Song Rentou feel a chill run down his spine; he understood that he had encountered something unclean. He turned to look at the traces left by the cornfield and, feeling a sense of urgency, both of them hopped on their bicycles and raced toward the village. 0

It wasn't until they were close to the village that he began to tell Li Zongping about what had happened earlier. 0

It turned out that he had gone to a friend's house in a neighboring village for dinner and was late returning home. While passing through the cornfield, he suddenly spotted a large pit in the road. 0

The darkness made it difficult to see, and before he could brake, he swerved sharply, causing his bicycle to lose balance and sending both him and the bike crashing to the ground near the corn. 0

At that moment, he felt a shadow leap towards him from behind, and after that, everything went blank. 0

After returning home, Song Rentou sought out a fortune teller, known as the Great Deity, the next day. 0

The Great Deity asked for his birth date and time, then calculated and told him that he was being haunted by a vengeful spirit. 0

The solution was for Song Rentou to stay at home for forty-nine days without stepping outside; otherwise, he would be in grave danger. 0

Being naturally timid, Song Rentou complied and stayed indoors, letting his wife handle all the chores in the fields while he didn’t dare step out even once. 0

Before long, forty-nine days had passed. One morning, his wife called him to help with work in the fields. Although he felt some fear at first, he thought about how much time had passed and decided to follow her outside. 0

However, as they reached the small river at the east end of the village, his heart began to race again. 0

His wife felt a surge of anger as she watched him act so timidly. Ignoring him, she stepped onto the bridge first. Song Rentou had a nagging sense of foreboding, as if something was waiting for him on the bridge. 0

Seeing his hesitant demeanor only fueled her frustration, and she walked ahead without a word. 0

Just then, Song Rentou suddenly shouted, "A car is coming!" 0

Before his wife could react, he pushed her hard from behind, causing her to tumble into the river. He jumped in right after her, plunging into the shallow water. 0

After falling in, his wife quickly scrambled back up. Due to the drought this year, the water was very shallow, only reaching up to their knees, and the bridge wasn't high either, so she wasn't hurt. She heard Song Rentou splash down beside her and began searching frantically in the river. 0

However, when she spotted Song Rentou, terror gripped her. He lay face down in the water, completely still. A chilling sense of dread washed over her. 0

After much effort, she managed to pull Song Rentou out of the water, only to discover that he was already dead. 0

No one could understand how Song Rentou could have died in such shallow water. There were no vehicles on that little wooden bridge—what had he seen before his death? 0

Later on, people said that Song Rentou had truly encountered the "Ghostly Veil," only able to see what the spirits allowed him to see. No matter how he tried to escape, he couldn't evade this fate. 0
