My Tenant is a Female Ghost
Bai Zhuo was pinned to the ground by two Warriors, unable to move, and just as he was about to lose his head, he heard a sigh that sounded like a melody.
"Ah... Bai, you really are my nemesis..."
Bai Zhuo shouted, "Su Meiniang, save me! Please save me!"
The Captain of the Tomb Raiders, poised to behead Bai Zhuo, pointed his long knife at Su Meiniang and coldly commanded, "Demon, dare you act recklessly!"
Su Meiniang stepped in front of Bai Zhuo. With his head pressed down, all Bai Zhuo could see were Su Meiniang's smooth calves and her heels.
Su Meiniang pointed at Bai Zhuo on the ground and declared, "You cannot kill this person."
After Su Meiniang appeared, the scene shifted. Bai Zhuo found himself pressed against the guillotine, ready for execution. The Captain of the Tomb Raiders transformed back into an Undead Soldier. "I am a guard of General Ran, trusted by him. I must be loyal. You trespassers in the Royal Tomb deserve death!"
As the Undead Soldier finished speaking, he prepared to strike down Bai Zhuo. Even at her peak, Su Meiniang was no match for this Undead Soldier; after being severely injured by it, she had no strength left to stop him.
Su Meiniang shouted, "Do you see clearly who you are about to kill!" The Undead Soldier paused and scrutinized Bai Zhuo for a moment before sneering, "Hmph, a mere Fox Spirit's illusion dares to play tricks before me."
Cold sweat broke out on Su Meiniang as she realized the gravity of the situation. The Fox Spirit clan's two greatest abilities—transformation and charm—had been seen through by this Undead Soldier with just a glance; its power was truly unfathomable.
Just when Su Meiniang felt hopeless, she heard the Undead Soldier express confusion.
"Eh? No, no... this golden light..." The Undead Soldier squinted and stared intently at Bai Zhuo's face as if trying to see through him. "Golden light surrounding you, protecting your soul? This..."
"This is!" The Undead Soldier exclaimed in shock and retreated several steps. The surrounding illusion suddenly collapsed as he knelt on one knee, trembling as he clasped his fists together. "So it is the reincarnation of the Immortal Lord! Forgive my blindness; I almost struck down the reincarnation of an immortal! Please punish me, Immortal Lord!"
The sudden turn of events left Su Meiniang stunned, standing there like a wooden puppet. Even Bai Zhuo himself was taken aback, bewildered by the kneeling Undead Soldier.
With his bindings released and freedom restored, Bai Zhuo looked at Su Meiniang in confusion, unsure of what to do. Su Meiniang gestured for him to give orders. Steeling himself, Bai Zhuo proclaimed loudly, "Ignorance is no crime; quickly dispel this illusion."
"Yes!"
With a crash, the sound of shattering glass filled the air. Bai Zhuo felt darkness envelop him, and as the scene spun around, he finally returned to the tomb's inner sanctum. His soul had returned to his body, and a wave of intense weakness washed over him. If it weren't for Cao Yu's quick reflexes in catching him, he would have fallen heavily to the ground.
"Ah... it hurts!" Bai Zhuo looked down and saw that his body was covered in wounds, all inflicted during the illusion! The thought sent a chill down his spine; if it weren't for Su Meiniang's Yin Chai miscalculation, his head might have been severed!
"Are you alright?" Cao Yu asked, supporting Bai Zhuo with concern.
Bai Zhuo nodded and forced a smile. "I'm lucky to be alive; I'm fine for now."
At that moment, the Undead Soldier appeared, kneeling before Bai Zhuo. "This humble soldier greets the Immortal Lord. I apologize for offending you; please punish me as you see fit!"
Bai Zhuo's mind raced. This Undead Soldier had severely injured Su Meiniang, indicating its formidable power. If he could subdue it and make it his Ghost Servant, he would have a powerful ally against future foes like the Taotie Ghost, Chimeras, Wang Kun, and Tang Baifu! As for whether it could leave this tomb, that was hardly a concern for him.
With that thought in mind, Bai Zhuo feigned generosity and said, "Ahem... there's no need for punishment. If you truly regret your actions, join my side, and I will treat you well in the future."
To his surprise, the Undead Soldier immediately refused. "It is an honor to be recognized by the Immortal Lord; I appreciate your kindness. However, I am General Ran's personal guard. Even in death, I must protect General Ran's tomb. Please forgive me... If the Immortal Lord does not mind, I am willing to offer you something as a token of my sincerity."
"This..." Bai Zhuo felt a twinge of disappointment but then heard Su Meiniang's voice echoing in his mind as she urged him frantically: "Fool! Agree to it quickly! Hurry!"
Under Su Meiniang's insistence, Bai Zhuo relented. The item the Undead Soldier mentioned must be what Su Meiniang desired. He was very curious about what kind of treasure she wanted.
"Please wait a moment, Immortal Lord," said the Undead Soldier. "General Ran rests here peacefully and does not wish for outsiders to disturb him. I will return shortly." Before long, the Undead Soldier came back.
He opened his hand to reveal an unremarkable stone resting within it. Bai Zhuo reached out to take the stone but was beaten to it by Su Meiniang, who snatched it away while drooling and murmuring excitedly, "Ah... such a treasure! I've finally got you! What a treasure! Hahaha..."
As Su Meiniang joyfully claimed the item, the Undead Soldier observed that Bai Zhuo did not scold him and continued speaking: "You are the reincarnation of the Immortal Lord; this place is not suitable for you to linger any longer. Please follow me."
Well then, this was clearly an eviction notice. Bai Zhuo understood immediately and asked, "Where is the exit?"
"Please follow me, Immortal Lord." The Undead Soldier moved respectfully, but it was clear from his tone that there remained a distance between them.
The Undead Soldier led Bai Zhuo to a corner, where it transformed into a wisp of black mist and moved a few times. Suddenly, a hole appeared in the nearby wall, adorned with intricate carvings of the Eight Trigrams of the Nine Palaces. Each palace ring could rotate left or right, and any misstep could trigger a mechanism.
Fortunately, this was the Undead Soldier deciphering the puzzle, so there was no need for concern.
After about five minutes, a clicking sound echoed as the mechanism activated. The stone wall behind the Eight Trigrams of the Nine Palaces rumbled and opened a stone door.
"Immortal Lord, beyond this path, there will be three forks. All three paths lead to dead ends. Immortal Lord, please do not wander; simply run back."
"Run back?" Bai Zhuo asked in confusion. "Does that mean we'll return here?"
The Undead Soldier shook its head. "I would never harm the Immortal Lord. You only need to run back, but when you do, make sure to hold your breath; otherwise, you will inhale toxic gas and suffer greatly."
"Run? Toxic gas?"
"Yes. Please proceed carefully, Immortal Lord."
Indeed, it was a loyal and devoted warrior. Even when faced with the Immortal Lord, it showed no mercy in issuing an eviction order. It was just unfortunate that Bai Zhuo lacked the ability to subdue it!
With this thought in mind, Bai Zhuo no longer lingered and turned to lead Cao Yu deeper into the passageway.
