My Tenant is a Female Ghost
"Crash!" Bai Zhuo's figure burst through the glass, tumbling in through the window and landing heavily on the floor, startling Ouyang Shirei, who was trembling in fear. The two children slept soundly, turning over and continuing their slumber. Ouyang Shirei and Huang Jiangliu set down the kids and rushed to help Bai Zhuo, but he stopped them.
He coughed a few times, spitting out a mouthful of congealed blood, and warned, "Don't come over, don't look at the glass or mirrors. No matter what happens, stay away!"
"But Bai, you're hurt..."
There was no time to explain; a monstrous figure flew in through the window, landing on all fours. Its face was nothing but a gaping maw filled with sharp teeth—truly terrifying. Fortunately, Ouyang Shirei and Huang Jiangliu were ordinary people and could not see this horrifying sight.
Bai Zhuo staggered to his feet, positioning himself in front of Ouyang Shirei. He formed several complex Hand Seals with his hands. "Those who are in battle shall advance!" It was indeed the Nine Character Mantra! Bai Zhuo's left thumb and pinky were tightly clasped together at his waist while his right fingers were poised.
"Sword in Hand, I command you!"
With a clang, it sounded as if a real sword had been drawn from his left hand between his fingers, exuding an overwhelming sword energy! Bai Zhuo pressed his tongue against the roof of his mouth, sealing his breath of Yang energy, and thrust "Sword in Hand" fiercely toward the monster!
The creature had no eyes but seemed to sense the threat from Bai Zhuo's fingers. It let out a howl and retreated. In an instant, a chilling wind swept through the room, making it hard for anyone to open their eyes. The lights above flickered ominously as electricity crackled.
Just as it seemed the lights would go out completely, Bai Zhuo formed several more Hand Seals with his left hand and shouted, "Boundless Earth, Borrowing Method of Heaven and Earth! Nine Stars align; daylight covers the moon! Supreme True Lord, Urgent Command—command!" The lights in the room stabilized instantly, and the chilling wind gradually subsided until silence enveloped the space.
Bai Zhuo had become quite skilled; without formal teachings or a master’s guidance, he had self-taught himself not only to master the Nine Character Mantra but also to proficiently wield Taoist exorcism techniques. If that cheap master Elder Ge were present, he would surely be astonished once again.
Somewhere in Ningcheng, Wang Kun spat out a mouthful of vital blood, looking dispirited as he cursed under his breath: "Damn it! What distant relative? Turns out he's an Onmyoji! So young yet possesses such soul power and insight... I wonder if he has any backing... Damn it... this is troublesome. Oh no! The backlash is about to spiral out of control!"
The terrifying monster finally retreated for now. Bai Zhuo felt parched; indeed, this was his very first battle in earnest, and it was inevitable that he felt somewhat tense.
"Sister Shirei, you should leave first," he urged.
"And you?" she asked.
"This Evil Spirit will come back again. I’ll see if I can completely banish it..."
"Bai, are you sure you can handle this?"
Bai Zhuo forced a smile. "I've never seen this monster before; it's about fifty-fifty. I'll make a call and see if I can get some backup."
He took out his phone and dialed a number. After a few beeps, it indicated that no one was answering.
"It's one in the morning now; my cheap master is probably asleep. Looks like I'll have to rely on myself!" Bai Zhuo sighed. "Sister Shirei, listen to me; you all take the child and leave first."
Ouyang Shirei wanted to say something, but Huang Jiangliu stopped her. "Ouyang Dean, let's listen to Mr. Bai. We'll just be in the way here. Let's go outside; I believe Mr. Bai can definitely deal with that monster!"
At that moment, Bai Zhuo's phone rang. Thinking it was Elder Ge returning his call, he hurriedly answered, "Hello? Master?"
Unfortunately, all he heard on the other end was a crackling sound followed by a ghostly woman's voice saying, "I died so tragically..."
Bai Zhuo was taken aback and cursed under his breath; it was the female ghost from last night who wanted to rent a house. Furious at her timing, he snapped, "Are you crazy? Why are you calling me in the middle of the night?"
The ghost on the other end exploded with rage; no one had ever dared to insult her before. She retorted, "You're the crazy one! Your whole family is crazy! Are you renting that house or not? Why else would I call you and bother you?"
"Damn it! I'm busy; stop bothering me." Bai Zhuo cursed again and tried to hang up, but no matter how he tried, he couldn't disconnect the call. The speakerphone activated on its own. The ghost continued, "What could you possibly be busy with at this hour? I just have my eye on your house's feng shui. If you rent it to me and give me a place, everything from before will be wiped clean! How about that? Besides, haven't you already rented one? What's wrong with adding another?"
Bai Zhuo was momentarily confused, thinking she meant Cao Xin. Frustrated, an idea suddenly struck him. "Fine, I'll rent it to you, but you have to agree to two conditions!"
"As long as they aren't excessive."
"First, I'll collect rent, but I only want some magical artifacts. If you can't afford them, then forget it."
There was silence on the other end for a moment. "That can work, but we need to discuss specifics. There's one more thing."
"What's that?"
"Please tell me about a creature with four claws like human hands, a body like a pig or sheep, and a human face but with nothing on it except for a large mouth filled with sharp teeth. What kind of ghost is that?"
The voice on the other end pondered for a moment before murmuring, "What ghost? Four claws like human hands... with a human face and just a mouth? That's a Taotie Beast! If what you've encountered is the ghostly version of the Taotie, then congratulations—you've hit the jackpot! Good luck dealing with it!" The female ghost laughed maliciously, causing Bai Zhuo's heart to sink as he realized he was in deep trouble.
"Alright, I've met both conditions. I'll come find you in a few days... if you're still alive! Hehehe." Before Bai Zhuo could ask about its weakness, the female ghost hung up, leaving only the sound of a busy signal.
The phone was on speaker, and Ouyang Shirei and Huang Jiangliu heard everything clearly, feeling a sense of despair creeping in. Bai Zhuo said, "Sister Shirei, you and Boss Huang should leave first."
At that moment, strange howls echoed around them, indistinguishable between male and female. "Hehe! Want to leave? None of you can escape! I will eat you all!"
"Sister Shirei, quickly take the child and go! Don't look back or at any glass or mirrors. Hurry, or none of us will get away!"
"Let's go!" Huang Jiangliu picked up the child and rushed outside. Ouyang Shirei was at a loss and could only follow Huang Jiangliu out, glancing back at Bai Zhuo as they exited.
"My delicious meal! Don't run away!"
The Taotie Ghost screeched as it lunged toward Huang Junhao in Ouyang Shirei's arms. Bai Zhuo would never let it succeed.
"All combatants, advance in formation!" He silently recited the Nine Character Mantra, drawing his Sword in Hand!
The Taotie Ghost's voice was neither male nor female as it shrieked, "Hehe, without that stinky Taoist's control, I'm not afraid of you little brat! Hehehe~"
Bai Zhuo glared at the Taotie Ghost, which was swelling larger before him, and cursed, "...Damn it!"
