"Faster, come on!"
Inside the elevator, Wang Chao's anxious voice echoed as he watched the numbers above slowly change. He felt like jumping out of the elevator and running up the stairs.
Meanwhile, Jiang Liu was scanning the interior of the elevator, seemingly searching for something.
It seemed that Lady Luck was smiling upon them, as nothing unexpected happened during the ride, and they smoothly reached the floor where Lin Mei Mei was located.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Wang Chao rushed out, shouting, "Lin Mei Mei, where are you?"
Jiang Liu followed closely behind. As they turned a corner, he glanced back at the elevator and noticed a familiar elderly man appearing just as the doors were about to close. The man waved goodbye to them with a smile.
In that moment, Jiang Liu recognized him; it was the Security Old Man they had seen when they first arrived at the building.
Jiang Liu hesitated for a moment but quickly resumed his pace, chasing after Wang Chao.
Qian Lin's apartment door was left open, providing easy access for them. Wang Chao charged in first, with Jiang Liu right behind him.
The living room was empty of Lin Mei Mei's presence, so they immediately dashed toward the bedroom. As they burst into the room, they were met with a scene that sent chills down their spines.
Lin Mei Mei lay on the white bed as if in a coma, unaware of her fate. Beside her stood a woman with a Human Skin mask. From the features of the mask, Jiang Liu could vaguely recognize Zhao Jing's face, though it now appeared terrifying.
Wang Chao didn't dwell on what Jiang Liu was thinking. Upon seeing the eerie Human Skin inching closer to Lin Mei Mei, he shouted an expletive and charged forward.
As Human Skin rushed towards him, Wang Chao did not retreat but instead changed direction, lunging forward like a torn piece of cloth aimed at Wang Chao.
Seeing this display from Human Skin, Jiang Liu felt a surge of alarm. Just as he was about to stop Wang Chao, he saw Wang Chao quickly pull something from his pocket. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the Human Skin that Jiang Liu had previously handed to Wang Chao. Wang Chao hurled Qian Lin's Human Skin fiercely at the oncoming Zhao Jing's Human Skin, then swiftly ducked to evade Zhao Jing's attack.
“Jiang Liu, the box!”
Rolling over to Lin Mei Mei's side, Wang Chao shouted at Jiang Liu, who was still standing in place.
Snapping back to reality, Jiang Liu quickly scanned the room and indeed spotted an empty cardboard box in the corner to his left. Without taking the time to verify if it was the same box that had contained the wedding dress, he dashed over.
When he picked up the box, Jiang Liu noticed that both Zhao Jing and Qian Lin's Human Skins seemed to have come alive, visibly swelling before his eyes. Meanwhile, Wang Chao was bleeding from the corner of his mouth, crouching with Lin Mei Mei in another corner as they watched the bizarre scene unfold.
Jiang Liu knew they had little time left. With a roar, he charged at the two Human Skins while holding the box aloft in a dunking motion.
Since Jiang Liu was using almost all his strength to leap at the two Human Skins, he didn’t have time to protect himself upon landing. His forehead slammed against the white floor, and he felt a sharp pain as his head spun.
It was unclear how long he lay there before the dizziness began to fade. When Jiang Liu finally rolled over to look around the room, he found that both Human Skins had vanished without a trace. Struggling to get up, he flipped over the box and discovered two strikingly red wedding dresses lying quietly inside.
It was over.
Exhausted, Jiang Liu collapsed onto the floor. The coldness of the ground gave him an unprecedented sense of fulfillment. Staring up at the Flower Panel above him, his consciousness began to blur as Wang Chao's voice echoed in his ears.
When Jiang Liu awoke again, he found himself on a bus. The darkness outside made it difficult for him to distinguish between reality and illusion. However, upon seeing Wang Chao and Lin Mei Mei's figures ahead of him, Jiang Liu knew that this ordeal had finally come to an end.
He survived, but he didn't know how long this luck would last.
