Seeing that the call was from Lin Mei Mei, Jiang Liu was momentarily taken aback before quickly answering the phone.
As soon as the call connected, Jiang Liu heard Lin Mei Mei's anxious voice coming from the other end.
“Jiang Liu, the heart mirror.”
The heart mirror?
Jiang Liu glanced down at the lens in his hand. Just as he was about to ask Lin Mei Mei what she meant, he suddenly heard her voice cut off, followed by a piercing sound of static from his phone.
The static was alarmingly loud, sending a shiver down Jiang Liu's spine. Just as he was about to hang up, he froze and brought the phone back to his ear, listening intently.
“Zhi ni zhi men zhi dou zhi yao si.”
A chilling female voice mixed with the harsh static sounded like a curse directed at Jiang Liu for listening to this call.
After a moment of enduring that malevolent voice, Jiang Liu could no longer stand it and hung up. He stared at the lens in his hand, pondering Lin Mei Mei's words.
The heart mirror?
Why did she mention the heart mirror?
Could it be that the ghost attacks through mirrors?
No, if the ghost attacked through mirrors, then why hadn’t anything happened when Wang Chao and he took turns using the restroom?
There must be something different; the ghost must have had a reason for targeting Lin Mei Mei.
But where exactly had the problem arisen?
Suddenly, Jiang Liu's expression changed. He looked down at the lens in his hand, remaining silent for a long time. His fingers tightened around it, turning pale from the pressure.
He understood now, understood why the ghost would attack Lin Mei Mei, or why it had been giving them hints from the very beginning of the incident, even though none of them had paid attention.
“Jiang Liu, what are you doing?”
Wang Chao approached, looking at Jiang Liu squatting on the ground, holding a piece of glass and seemingly lost in thought.
“Nothing, Lin Mei Mei just called me.”
“What? Lin Mei Mei called you?” Wang Chao's excitement was palpable.
“Yeah, but there seems to be some issue with the signal.”
Jiang Liu discreetly placed the glass in his pocket and then stood up.
“Did Lin Mei Mei say where they are now?” Wang Chao asked eagerly.
“No, but I have already guessed where Lin Mei Mei is.”
“Master, where is my wife?”
Qian Lin entered the bathroom at that moment, not noticing Zhao Jing, and anxiously inquired of Jiang Liu.
“Mr. Qian, please don’t worry. I’ve figured out where your wife Zhao Jing is. We need to head there right away,” Jiang Liu explained.
Upon hearing that Jiang Liu knew where his wife was, Qian Lin urgently grabbed Jiang Liu to leave, but Jiang Liu calmly evaded him.
“Wang Chao, we need to rush back to the building where Qian Lin and the others live. I suspect Lin Mei Mei has already been taken back by the ghost.”
“What? Then Lin Mei Mei is in great danger right now!”
Wang Chao shouted excitedly, pulling Jiang Liu as he dashed out of the bathroom. However, as they burst out of the room, Jiang Liu held him back.
"What are you doing? Lin Mei Mei is in danger right now, we need to hurry!" Wang Chao looked at Jiang Liu in confusion.
"Don't worry about Lin Mei Mei for now; we need to handle things here first."
"Here? What could possibly be going on here?" Wang Chao asked, puzzled.
Jiang Liu ignored Wang Chao and turned to Qian Lin, who was following them. "Mr. Qian, there isn't just one wedding dress, is there?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Liu noticed that Qian Lin, who had been tense, suddenly lowered his head and fell silent. Although Wang Chao was extremely worried about Lin Mei Mei's safety, he sensed something was off when he saw Qian Lin's expression and began to watch him warily.
"From the moment I received the mission, I fell into a misunderstanding, thinking there was only one wedding dress. It wasn't until Lin Mei Mei called me just now that I realized something was wrong. At first, I didn't understand why she made me reflect, but when I saw myself in the mirror, it clicked. It wasn't the mirror she wanted me to focus on; it was the result reflected in it."
Jiang Liu seemed oblivious to the increasingly strange atmosphere around them and continued with his speculation.
"Normally, when people look in a mirror, they see their own reflection. I knew that wasn't what Lin Mei Mei wanted me to notice. Since she wasn't directing my attention to my own reflection, another hint emerged: what she truly wanted me to focus on was the quantity. When I looked in the mirror, I saw two of myself, and that 'two' is what Lin Mei Mei wanted me to pay attention to. Coupled with our mission this time, the answer becomes clear: there isn't just one wedding dress; there are two! Am I right, Mr. Qian?"
A series of eerie, chilling laughs erupted from Qian Lin's mouth. Suddenly, he lifted his head sharply, revealing eyes filled with malice directed at Jiang Liu and Wang Chao.
Before Wang Chao could react, the transformed Qian Lin lunged at Jiang Liu. His once vibrant hands now resembled withered branches as they reached for Jiang Liu's neck, black nails glinting ominously.
Just as those withered hands were about to pierce Jiang Liu's fair neck, he quickly pulled out a lens from his pocket and aimed it at Qian Lin.
What had seemed like an ordinary piece of glass now acted like a powerful weapon against evil spirits. The moment Qian Lin was illuminated by the lens, he let out a horrific scream before vanishing before Wang Chao's disbelieving eyes, leaving only a few pieces of clothing scattered on the ground.
Wang Chao stared wide-eyed at the clothes on the floor and then at Jiang Liu holding the mirror. If he hadn't known that there were no real exorcists in this world, he might have even thought about kneeling before Jiang Liu.
After a few seconds, Wang Chao finally reacted, swallowing hard as he pointed at the clothes on the ground and asked, "What the hell just happened?"
Jiang Liu wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and felt somewhat drained. "I'll explain later; for now, pick up those clothes. We need to rush to Lin Mei Mei."
"Why are we picking up clothes?" Wang Chao asked, only to realize immediately, "Could it be that the wedding dress is the clothing they were wearing?"
"It should be about right. Check if there's anything else in the clothes," Jiang Liu replied.
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao quickly crouched down to rummage through the garments. Suddenly, it seemed he found something. He stood up holding a piece of human skin and asked Jiang Liu, "Why is there a piece of human skin?"
"Human skin?" Jiang Liu was taken aback for a moment, then pondered, "It seems this is what they call a wedding dress."
"What? This is a wedding dress?" Wang Chao exclaimed in surprise.
"Most likely," Jiang Liu said as he took the piece of human skin and explained, "For ghosts, this human skin might be their wedding dress."
"Then what about the red bridal gown that Qian Lin and Zhao Jing had before?"
"I'm not sure. Perhaps it was just a misleading clue," Jiang Liu said, looking at the piece of human skin in front of him. After thinking for a moment, he tossed it to Wang Chao. "We've got the first wedding dress. Let's go find Lin Mei Mei."
"Right, Lin Mei Mei still doesn't know if she's safe."
Wang Chao grabbed the piece of human skin and pulled Jiang Liu as they rushed out of the room.
