Horror Chapter
Night fell.
A bus slowly traveled along a dark, quiet concrete road.
There was no driver in the driver's seat of the bus, yet it moved steadily down the road, sending a chill down anyone's spine.
Inside this eerie bus sat three passengers: two handsome boys and a short girl dressed in Gothic-style clothing.
Although none of them wore smiles, they did not exhibit the usual fear one would expect when faced with such a strange bus. Their demeanor was too calm, as if they were all too familiar with the bizarre situation.
These three were Jiang Liu, Wang Chao, and Lin Mei Mei.
"Hey, Lin Mei Mei, you've been silent since we left home. If you're scared, my arms are always open for you," Wang Chao teased, glancing at Lin Mei Mei's unchanged cold expression since their departure.
Jiang Liu looked at Lin Mei Mei's unchanging face and then at the incessantly chattering Wang Chao beside him. With a sigh, he said, "Wang Chao, can you be quiet for a moment? No one feels good in a situation like this."
Wang Chao shot Jiang Liu a disdainful glance but ignored him. With an air of arrogance, he moved from his seat next to Jiang Liu to sit beside Lin Mei Mei.
Lin Mei Mei shot Wang Chao an annoyed glare. Realizing he seemed oblivious to her impatience, she angrily lifted her foot and stomped down hard on Wang Chao's foot. He gasped in pain but dared not pull away.
Once Lin Mei Mei felt satisfied and lifted her foot, Wang Chao gingerly withdrew his foot and limped back to sit beside Jiang Liu.
Jiang Liu sighed helplessly and turned to look out at the dark scenery outside the car window, ignoring Wang Chao, whose expression seemed to suggest he could discern something from the darkness beyond.
Having been upset by Lin Mei Mei, Wang Chao naturally sought to regain his spirits elsewhere, which was his usual approach.
At that moment, Jiang Liu was undoubtedly a prime target. Wang Chao forcibly turned Jiang Liu's head towards him, his expression serious as he looked deeply into Jiang Liu's eyes.
"How can you be so lacking in compassion? You see me hurt and don't even offer a word of comfort."
"That's your own fault. Anyone in your situation wouldn't feel good about it. Yet you insist on seeking out trouble."
"Ah, that's where you're wrong." Seeing that Jiang Liu was engaging with him, Wang Chao became excited. "I'm using a method of indirect consolation. I know Lin Mei Mei must be nervous right now, so I’m trying to distract her attention. This way, she won't feel so tense."
After rambling on for quite a while, Jiang Liu grew impatient, wishing he could slap himself for engaging with someone like Wang Chao, who seemed to have verbal hyperactivity.
Perhaps sitting in front of them, Lin Mei Mei could no longer tolerate Wang Chao's incessant chatter and finally spoke up after a long silence.
"I'm not talking because I'm annoyed at being out here on a mission with two smelly boys."
Wang Chao's eyes lit up at Lin Mei Mei's words. He immediately abandoned Jiang Liu and turned to face Lin Mei Mei's delicate features. "I'm not smelly; I'm fragrant! This guy is the one who's smelly."
"Shut up! If you keep talking, I swear I'll tell Dream Sister that you’re harassing me when this is all over."
Wang Chao wasn't afraid of much, but he feared Dream Sister. As soon as he heard Lin Mei Mei mention her name, he promptly shut his mouth and sat quietly in his seat.
Jiang Liu looked at Wang Chao's obedient demeanor in surprise and couldn't help but feel an unusual regret. After all, following the last incident, Wang Chao had woken him up in the middle of the night more than once to drink and talk.
At first, Wang Chao thought it was because someone in the team had died, and that was why he felt so upset.
However, after spending more time together, Jiang Liu realized that Wang Chao actually had a form of verbal hyperactivity.
If he had known earlier how effective Dream Sister was with Wang Chao, Jiang Liu would have used that approach long ago. But upon reflection, he realized that only Lin Mei Mei could pull it off.
Although Dream Sister had a significant effect on Wang Chao, the bus had been traveling down this road for quite some time. Finally unable to hold back any longer, the quiet Wang Chao nudged the resting Jiang Liu.
“Jiang Liu, there's something I want to ask you.”
Jiang Liu opened his eyes with a sigh. “What is it?”
“You mentioned this paranormal incident involves us retrieving a lost wedding dress. What does that really mean?”
Hearing that Wang Chao wasn't asking any unnecessary questions, Jiang Liu breathed a sigh of relief and thought seriously for a moment before responding.
“So far, the mission objective seems simple: we just need to find the lost wedding dress. However, once we find it, there’s no mention of what happens next. So I suspect the difficulty of this incident lies in how to actually locate the dress.”
As Jiang Liu began to elaborate on the paranormal event, Lin Mei Mei, who was sitting in front of them, turned around to look at him, signaling him to continue.
Jiang Liu felt somewhat awkward about Lin Mei Mei's attitude.
A girl who looked no older than twelve or thirteen was gazing at him with an expression usually seen on adults, which made him curious about her true age.
However, after living together for so long, Jiang Liu still hadn’t managed to find out Lin Mei Mei's real age; he only knew that everyone referred to her as Lin Mei Mei.
As Jiang Liu paused his speculation, Wang Chao discreetly glanced at Lin Mei Mei, urging Jiang Liu to continue.
"Well, I believe this supernatural incident is likely to involve some dangers while we search for the lost wedding dress. After all, finding the dress signifies the end of this event, so we might encounter some risks during our search."
This statement felt somewhat redundant; initially, Lin Mei Mei had expected Jiang Liu to present some astonishing insights, but she was disappointed to hear such a vague conclusion. She turned away.
Noticing Lin Mei Mei's reaction, Wang Chao grew anxious and asked Jiang Liu, "We could have thought of that ourselves. Don't you have any other useful clues?"
Jiang Liu pinched the bridge of his nose and replied, "There's one more thing. Since we're looking for a lost wedding dress, it’s likely that someone has it now. So after we get off the bus, we need to pay close attention to the conversations of those around us. This incident won’t allow us to search aimlessly; the most probable scenario is that we’re not the only ones involved. There may be other teams or even ordinary people participating."
Upon hearing this from Jiang Liu, Lin Mei Mei turned back in surprise to look at him.
Having survived several supernatural events herself, Lin Mei Mei was no fool. After listening to Jiang Liu's speculation, she felt certain that his insights were likely to reflect the realities they would soon face.
Her gaze towards Jiang Liu shifted noticeably.
Seeing Lin Mei Mei's reaction made Wang Chao particularly pleased, and he was about to ask more questions when he suddenly felt the bus come to a halt.
They had arrived!
