Horror Chapter
Zhao Jing was a person with severe demands.
Academically, she could be described as obsessive-compulsive, and astrologically, she was a Virgo.
As Zhao Jing's boyfriend, Qian Lin found being with her to be quite painful. However, love is blind, and it often makes one overlook each other's flaws. Ignoring this fact, in Qian Lin's eyes, Zhao Jing was a flawless woman and an ideal candidate for a domestic life.
Thus, Qian Lin had always pampered Zhao Jing, prioritizing her needs above all else. For instance, the couple had initially planned to get married in October, but because Zhao Jing had yet to find a wedding dress she liked, their date kept getting pushed back.
With the end of the year approaching, if they didn’t get married soon, even Qian Lin’s affection for Zhao Jing would not prevent his family from feeling resentful.
Zhao Jing understood this well, but unfortunately, she still hadn’t found a wedding dress that satisfied her. The thought of wearing something she disliked on her wedding day made her uneasy.
As she gazed at the bustling streets filled with bright lights and lively sounds, Zhao Jing sighed deeply. Did she really have to wear those tacky wedding dresses on her special day?
Feeling distressed, she stepped out of a well-known local Wedding Dress Boutique. After greeting the staff inside, she walked towards the street.
She knew that nothing in this world was perfect; however, as it was her wedding—an event that might only happen once in a lifetime—Zhao Jing didn’t want any regrets on her big day. She wanted everything to be flawless!
Lost in thought, she gradually returned to reality and realized that she had unknowingly wandered away from the busy street into a secluded alley.
The alley was deserted and eerily quiet; Zhao Jing could even hear the "thump-thump" of her own heartbeat in the silence.
The deeper part of the alley was shrouded in darkness so thick that it filled Zhao Jing with fear, as if someone were lurking in the shadows watching her.
Overcome by dread, she quickened her pace to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the alley. However, just a few steps later, something caught her attention—a Wedding Dress Boutique that was still open not far away.
The entrance of the boutique bore no name; only two lanterns glowing with a sinister red light illuminated the doorway, casting an eerie aura around it.
Of course, what caught her attention was not the strange Wedding Dress Boutique, but a wedding gown displayed in a glass case nearby.
The gown was red, resembling the traditional bridal attire of ancient times, looking stunning and extraordinarily beautiful.
The moment Zhao Jing laid eyes on the red dress, all her attention was drawn to it; the entire world faded away, leaving only that red gown in existence.
This was it! After searching for so long, she had finally found it!
Zhao Jing thought to herself.
She temporarily forgot her earlier fears, her mind solely focused on embracing that perfect wedding dress and savoring the moment.
Staring at the bright red wedding gown in the glass case, Zhao Jing approached the entrance of the Wedding Dress Boutique. Just as she was about to push open the door, unexpectedly, the brown-red door of the boutique swung open by itself, revealing a dimly lit interior.
An automatic door?
Zhao Jing pondered as she slowly walked inside.
Once she entered, she discovered that both sides of the aisle were lined with beautiful wedding dresses. The decorative mannequins looked almost lifelike, quietly standing in their glass cases showcasing their beauty.
As she gazed at the mannequins accentuated by the gowns, Zhao Jing felt a pang of inferiority. She thought that under the glow of these beautiful dresses, those lifeless mannequins appeared three times more beautiful than she did as a living person.
This only strengthened her resolve to obtain that wedding dress.
Imagining how stunning she would look wearing that beautiful gown on her wedding day, she envisioned herself as the center of attention, captivating everyone around her.
After admiring the surroundings for a while, Zhao Jing realized that not a single staff member had appeared in the store so far, which left her feeling quite bewildered.
"Hello? Is anyone here?"
The sound echoed in the shop, and after waiting for a while, Zhao Jing still heard no response. She couldn't help but feel a bit disheartened.
The absence of anyone in the store meant that she wouldn't be able to get that wedding dress today. However, after searching for so long, she had finally found a dress that satisfied her, and she was unwilling to leave empty-handed.
"Hello? Is anyone there?"
She raised her voice again, but still received no answer.
"Ding ling ling."
At that moment, a sudden ringing sound came from Zhao Jing's bag. In the quiet shop, the ringtone was particularly jarring.
Startled, Zhao Jing realized it was her phone ringing. She let out a sigh of relief and took out her phone to see that it was Qian Lin calling.
No doubt about it; Qian Lin must have been worried about her since it was so late.
Feeling sweet inside, Zhao Jing answered the call. However, as soon as she picked up, she was startled again by the noise coming from her phone.
It turned out that the sound was not Qian Lin's familiar voice but rather a series of harsh, chaotic noises that resembled disordered radio static.
Taken aback, Zhao Jing quickly hung up and muttered a few words about her broken phone before ignoring it.
After calling out a few more times with no response, Zhao Jing could only walk out of the boutique with her head down; she wasn't about to resort to theft.
Turning back to look at the lanterns glowing red, Zhao Jing thought for a moment and took out her phone to snap a few pictures, planning to return tomorrow to inquire further at the shop.
With one last glance at the perfect wedding dress in the glass display, Zhao Jing reluctantly left.
The eerie boutique remained quietly standing in the alleyway.
Upon returning home, Zhao Jing excitedly recounted her earlier encounter with a Wedding Dress Boutique in a dark alley to Qian Lin.
Qian Lin closed her notebook and looked at the thrilled Zhao Jing by the bedside, curious as she asked, "What kind of boutique was it?"
Zhao Jing stroked her chin, pondering for a moment, only to feel a bit disheartened when she realized she had forgotten what the boutique looked like. Suddenly, she remembered that she had taken a few photos before leaving. While rummaging through her phone, she said to Qian Lin, "Oh right, I remember I took some pictures. Let me find them for you."
Watching Zhao Jing search for something, Qian Lin smiled, feeling happy that Zhao Jing had finally found the wedding dress of her dreams. She also breathed a sigh of relief; this way, their families would likely have no objections, and they could smoothly hold their wedding.
"Hey, why can't I find them?" Zhao Jing exclaimed as she continued to scroll through her phone's photos, realizing that the pictures she had taken recently were missing.
"What happened? What did you lose?" Qian Lin asked.
"The photos! The ones I took in front of the boutique are gone," Zhao Jing replied, showing her phone to Qian Lin. After examining it closely, Qian Lin noticed that aside from a few pitch-black photos dated today, there were no pictures of the boutique at all.
"If you can't find them, then you can't find them. Look at how worked up you are," Qian Lin pointed at the dark photos on the phone. "Could these be the ones you took? It was pretty dark in that alley."
Zhao Jing snatched back her phone and looked at it for a while. "No, I checked when I took them; they were clear."
"Alright, it's getting late. Let's turn off the lights and go to sleep," Qian Lin said gently to the troubled Zhao Jing. "The shop is still there; it won't run away. We can check again when it's brighter."
Hearing Qian Lin's words made Zhao Jing think it over and then she cuddled into Qian Lin's arms for a moment before closing her eyes to sleep, planning to check again first thing in the morning.
Qian Lin looked down at her girlfriend with a helpless smile and reached out to turn off the light.
The night passed quickly.
Zhao Jing was off work today, so she planned to sleep in, but unexpectedly, she was awakened early in the morning by the doorbell.
Opening her eyes, she realized Qian Lin was not beside her; she must have gone to work.
Rubbing her messy hair, Zhao Jing grumbled, "Who could it be this early?"
Leaning against the peephole to look outside, she saw no one.
This left Zhao Jing feeling puzzled. She opened the door and found only a square package quietly sitting at her doorstep, with the delivery person nowhere in sight.
After muttering a few words, Zhao Jing brought the package inside.
As she unwrapped it, she said, "Whose delivery is this? There's not even a name on it; just thrown at the door like this."
At the moment she opened the package, something that felt remarkably familiar appeared before her.
