Horror Chapter
The perspective shifted to the fourth floor.
The Giant Head Monster, the one who had previously killed Lin Dahai and Xu Meng, was dragging two mangled bodies toward the living room. In one hand, it held a massive boning knife, while the other hand pulled the lifeless forms behind it, leaving a trail of bright red blood in its wake.
Surprisingly, despite its enormous head and slender body, the chef appeared to be handling the two bodies with remarkable ease.
The chef slowly made its way into a room resembling a hotel kitchen. In the center of the room stood an iron bed, stained with blood; some of the stains had already turned a dark red, clearly having been there for quite some time.
With a brutal motion, the chef tossed the bodies onto the iron bed and set down the massive boning knife. It then turned to grab two large iron basins from a nearby countertop and placed them beside the bed.
Once again picking up the enormous knife, it began to chop at the bodies methodically. Before long, what had once been two relatively intact corpses was reduced to a pile of minced flesh. After finishing the gruesome task, the chef transferred the remains into one of the basins.
What followed was a bloody and brutal process of cooking, chopping, and stir-frying.
Sun Ting and Xu Hai, hiding beneath the countertop, witnessed everything. Had they not seen the earlier dismemberment scene, they might have thought this monster was preparing an extravagant feast—albeit with human flesh as the main ingredient.
As they watched dish after dish being prepared, Sun Ting and Xu Hai's faces turned pale. They realized that these freshly cooked meals bore an uncanny resemblance to what they had eaten on the fourth floor just moments before.
The thought made their stomachs churn violently, and a wave of nausea surged from their throats. They covered their mouths tightly, struggling to suppress any sounds.
Once everything was ready, the chef exited the kitchen with its massive boning knife. It wasn't until they could no longer hear its footsteps that Sun Ting finally succumbed to his nausea and vomited. Xu Hai followed suit shortly after.
They continued to retch until nothing but bile remained in their stomachs before finally collapsing weakly against the countertop.
"We need to get out of here quickly before that monster returns," Xu Hai urged.
"Yes, but I wonder if Wang Ke and Jiang Liu are okay," Sun Ting asked anxiously.
"They should be fine. The bodies it dragged away don't look like them; they must be Lin Dahai and Xu Meng," Xu Hai explained.
"I can't believe they were the ones who died," Sun Ting said, her eyes dimming with despair.
"Now is not the time to be sentimental. We need to get out of here quickly. Jiang Liu and Wang Ke should have already run to the third floor; we must catch up with them."
"What good will it do to catch up? Can't you see that Wang Ke has never considered us as partners?" Sun Ting replied.
"Even if we're just pawns, we have no choice but to find them. Do you really think that with our intelligence, we can solve this supernatural incident on our own?" Xu Hai sighed. "Wang Ke may give me a bad vibe, but I have to admit, just by leading their team, it's clear his intelligence is no joke."
"Well, it seems we have no other option."
After thinking it over, Sun Ting realized they had no choice but to proceed this way. Once she composed herself, the two began to stealthily leave the kitchen, which felt like a hell on earth.
After the Giant Head Monster left the kitchen, they had no idea where it went. As they quietly exited the kitchen and scanned the hall, they saw no sign of the creature. Even so, they remained on edge as they crept along the wall toward the staircase leading to the third floor.
Once they reached the staircase, they finally relaxed. After exchanging a glance, they continued quietly up to the third floor. As they stepped out of the staircase, they spotted two figures not far away and were startled, thinking another humanoid monster had appeared. Upon closer inspection, however, they recognized the figures.
When the figures greeted them, they realized it was Wang Ke and Jiang Liu; just as Xu Hai had said, they were safe.
"Are you okay? Did you encounter that Giant Head Monster?" Wang Ke asked upon seeing their pale faces.
Sun Ting and Xu Hai's expressions darkened instantly. Xu Hai nodded and said, "Yes, we did come across that Giant Head Monster, but it seemed like its attention wasn't on us, so we managed to escape."
Sun Ting glanced at Xu Hai and echoed his words. She knew he didn't want anyone else to know about the gruesome scene in the kitchen or that they had once eaten human flesh.
Wang Ke sensed that they were lying but chose not to call them out. He nodded and said, "As long as you're alive, that's what matters. At that moment, Jiang Liu and I could only shout warnings to you; we couldn't save you."
Xu Hai nodded in acknowledgment and did not blame Wang Ke or Jiang Liu for their actions.
"Since everyone who survived is here now, let's keep moving forward."
With that, Wang Ke took the lead again. At this moment, Jiang Liu was certain that Wang Ke had experienced something identical to what they were going through now; otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen to rest here after escaping from the third floor and would know that Sun Ting and Xu Hai could survive the Giant Head Monster's grasp.
However, one thing puzzled him: why was Wang Ke waiting for Sun Ting and Xu Hai? They clearly weren't on the same page as him. What if there was infighting later on?
Jiang Liu suddenly realized that Wang Ke seemed to have never put himself in a dangerous position, meaning he knew what was going to happen next, and that event was likely related to Sun Ting and Xu Hai.
With this thought in mind, Jiang Liu gradually quickened his pace to walk alongside Wang Ke. Sun Ting and Xu Hai had assumed from the beginning that the two of them were in cahoots, so they didn’t pay much attention to their companionship.
Walking next to Wang Ke, Jiang Liu noticed that Wang Ke was glancing at the walls around them as if searching for something. Jiang Liu instinctively mimicked Wang Ke’s actions and looked around, but after a while, he still had no idea what Wang Ke was looking for. All he could see were tightly closed rooms with nothing else of interest.
Wait! Rooms?
Jiang Liu suddenly recalled what had happened on the third floor when they first encountered a scream while searching through the rooms. He carefully recalled his previous memories and suddenly remembered something important.
He realized what Wang Ke was searching for: the room with the bloody handprint. If Jiang Liu's guess was correct, soon enough, Sun Ting would be dragged into that room.
The scream they heard earlier on the third floor had been a woman’s voice, and among the four of them now, there was indeed Sun Ting!
They had somehow returned to the previous timeline!
At that moment, Wang Ke noticed Jiang Liu's horrified gaze and understood that Jiang Liu had figured something out. He smiled mysteriously and suddenly stopped in front of a door.
Seeing the two people in front stop, Sun Ting and Xu Hai, who were walking behind, also halted about a meter away from them. Their position was right in front of a tightly closed door.
