Horror Chapter
Throughout the journey, Wang Ke had been paying close attention to everyone in the group. So when Lin Dahai kicked the doll for the first time, Wang Ke noticed it immediately but chose not to say anything. However, he felt a surge of anger when he saw that Lin Dahai was still standing there, stomping on the doll to vent his frustrations while everyone else was moving forward.
Just as he was about to turn around and scold Lin Dahai for being more mindful, he noticed that Lin Dahai had a puzzled expression on his face as he continued to stomp on the doll. At that moment, Wang Ke realized that Lin Dahai must have discovered something.
"Lin Dahai, what are you doing?"
Hearing Wang Ke's question, Lin Dahai stopped his actions and looked up at everyone. "There's something off about this doll; it feels strange when I step on it."
Wang Ke glanced at the doll at his feet, then lifted his foot to stomp on it as well. Although he found the doll somewhat soft, he didn't notice anything particularly wrong and looked back at Lin Dahai with confusion.
Lin Dahai pointed at the doll beneath him. "It feels like there's nothing inside to support it."
Upon hearing this from Lin Dahai, Wang Ke furrowed his brow and finally realized where his initial unease had come from.
Xu Meng noticed Wang Ke's change in expression and asked, "What did you think of?"
Wang Ke stepped on one of the doll's arms. "Lin Dahai is right; these dolls are too soft when stepped on. Logically, they shouldn't be able to stand up like they did before."
Ma Chao thought Wang Ke was overreacting and shrugged it off. "Since this is a supernatural event, it's normal for things to feel a bit off."
Still feeling uneasy, Wang Ke crouched down and pinched the doll's arm. The moment he did so, his expression changed completely.
Jiang Liu imitated Wang Ke and also crouched down to pinch the doll. His face paled instantly, and he quickly pulled back his hand, unable to suppress a low exclamation. "It feels too real!"
Wang Ke looked at Jiang Liu. "You noticed it too?"
Jiang Liu nodded with a grim expression. "Yes, these dolls feel too much like human skin; I just didn't find anything resembling bones inside."
Hearing their conversation, the others all crouched down to start pinching the dolls beneath them as well. They soon discovered the same unsettling phenomenon, their faces turning pale with dread.
Wang Ke ignored the actions of others and furrowed his brow as he asked Jiang Liu, "Do you think these dolls have any special significance?"
Jiang Liu shook his head, indicating that he didn't know. Just as he was about to ask Wang Ke what to do next, he noticed that Wang Ke had somehow produced a dining knife from somewhere. The knife looked familiar, identical to the cutlery they had seen on the dining table earlier, and Jiang Liu couldn't figure out when Wang Ke had managed to get his hands on it.
The moment Jiang Liu saw Wang Ke pull out the knife, he guessed what Wang Ke intended to do. He wanted to dissect the doll to see what was inside!
Wang Ke's behavior at that moment resembled that of a madman. A normal person would surely avoid such a phenomenon, but for someone like Wang Ke, the first instinct was to dissect the doll.
Realizing what Wang Ke was about to do made Jiang Liu gasp in shock, as no one knew what would happen when Wang Ke made that cut.
Would the army of dolls come back to life? Or would they scream in pain?
While Jiang Liu was lost in thought, Wang Ke's sharp knife had already touched the surface of the doll. With a slight exertion, the blade sliced through the doll's skin as easily as cutting through tofu.
Everyone else was puzzled, focusing on the doll beneath them, so their attention was not on Wang Ke. Only Ma Chao kept a close eye on him. When Ma Chao saw Wang Ke take out the knife, he was momentarily stunned, wondering when Wang Ke had hidden it and where it had been concealed.
Then his expression changed dramatically as he realized what Wang Ke intended to do. He prepared to stop him, but unfortunately, Wang Ke moved too quickly. Before Ma Chao could speak up, he saw the knife slice open a gash in the doll.
Blood erupted from the wound like a fountain. It seemed that Wang Ke had anticipated this; at the moment blood spurted out, he quickly stepped back, avoiding any splatter on himself.
Everyone's attention was drawn to Wang Ke's sudden movement as he dodged backward. Just as they were about to ask him what he was doing, they witnessed blood gushing from the doll.
Lin Dahai saw this scene and shouted angrily at Wang Ke, "What the hell are you doing?"
Wang Ke shot Lin Dahai a cold glance. Lin Dahai immediately wilted under his gaze, his face pale as he said, "You could have warned us before doing that."
Ignoring Lin Dahai's dissatisfaction, Wang Ke turned his focus back to the bleeding doll. Once the blood began to slow down, he approached and used the knife to pry open the wound for closer inspection.
While everyone else remained tense and vigilant about their surroundings, worried about what might happen next, only Ma Chao and Jiang Liu moved closer to Wang Ke.
Ma Chao looked at Wang Ke with an expression of displeasure, clearly unhappy with his reckless action. There was a hint of anger in his tone as he said, "I hope you can give me an explanation."
Wang Ke did not look up, continuing to use the dining knife in his hand to enlarge the wound on the puppet while speaking to Ma Chao, "I suspect these puppets might not be puppets at all."
"They definitely aren't puppets. Can ordinary puppets bleed this much?" Ma Chao was dissatisfied with Wang Ke's explanation and wanted to ask more, but he was stunned by the next scene.
Wang Ke had expanded the wound on the puppet's abdomen all the way up to its neck, then made several cuts on either side of the wound before peeling back the skin-like tissue on the puppet's surface with the knife.
What they usually saw in anatomy textbooks was now vividly presented before the three of them: intestines stained red with blood, pink lungs, a bright red heart, and other internal organs were all exposed to the air.
The other four people who had been paying attention also witnessed this scene. Two of the girls immediately squatted down and began to vomit violently, while Lin Dahai and Xu Hai, though not as dramatic as the girls, felt their stomachs revolting uncontrollably.
Jiang Liu, having seen even bloodier scenes before, only turned pale but did not react much. Ma Chao averted his gaze, staring at the endless army of puppets, as if recalling something terrifying that made his face turn even paler.
Jiang Liu spat to the side and pointed at the dissected puppet. "Is it a person?"
Wang Ke calmly examined the puppet's innards, rummaging through the abdominal cavity with his knife before responding, "It should be. All the expected organs are here; what's strange is that all the bones are missing."
Then Wang Ke shifted his gaze to the other nearby puppets, pondering for a moment. "There might be more than just this one."
He raised his dining knife again and brought it down onto another puppet. For the next while, the other six stood frozen in place, watching Wang Ke's gruesome performance.
