After listening to Wang Chao's words, Jiang Liu seemed unsatisfied with the answer he received and continued to press, "What if someone accidentally stumbles into the Ghost Realm?"
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao chuckled and shook his head at Jiang Liu. "No, there's absolutely no possibility of that. If someone truly enters the Ghost Realm of a supernatural event by accident, it only means one thing: that person has already been chosen by the supernatural event. Even if they are unwilling, they will inevitably become involved in the supernatural occurrences in the days to come."
Jiang Liu's mind was left in turmoil after Wang Chao's explanation. He thought perhaps he had been chosen by the supernatural event long ago, which would explain the bizarre dreams he experienced on the bus later.
The bus continued to crawl along the dark road, as if it were taking them deeper into the heart of a dark hell.
Just when Jiang Liu thought they would continue like this indefinitely, a light appeared beside the dark road ahead. As the brightness grew clearer, Jiang Liu could make out that it was a bus stop, where two figures stood—one male and one female.
Wang Chao also noticed this scene and stood up from his seat, patting Jiang Liu on the shoulder to signal him to prepare for what was next. "We've arrived."
Only then did Jiang Liu realize they had reached their destination. It seemed those two people were part of Wang Chao's team, specifically there to welcome them.
The bus quickly pulled up to the stop, and as soon as the doors opened, Jiang Liu saw Wang Chao excitedly rush out and embrace the male figure at the bus stop tightly, exclaiming joyfully, "You bastard! I thought you were dead! I called you several times and you didn't pick up!"
The male figure laughed heartily and explained, "Even if I died, you wouldn't. I just finished an incident this morning and came to pick you guys up without much rest."
After exchanging a few playful jabs, Wang Chao turned to the girl who looked somewhat like a loli beside him. "My Lin Mei Mei! I missed you so much! I almost thought I wouldn't see you again. Come here for a hug."
The girl referred to as Lin Mei Mei slightly turned away to dodge Wang Chao's embrace with a look of disdain. "Get lost! Who's your Lin Mei Mei? Besides, I'm not interested in boys. Don't touch me with your filthy hands. By the way, is this our team's new member?"
Hearing his name mentioned, Jiang Liu smiled and introduced himself. "Hello, I'm Jiang Liu—Jiang from 'river' and Liu from 'flow.'"
Wang Chao returned to Jiang Liu's side and put an arm around his shoulders. "That's right! He's my recognized new member. Don't let his age fool you; he's sharp as a tack! If it weren't for him this time, you wouldn't have seen your brother Wang again."
Lin Mei Mei looked at Wang Chao with utter disdain and cast a similar look at Jiang Liu, clearly unimpressed by him being a boy.
Another male figure stepped forward with a smile and extended his hand towards Jiang Liu gratefully. "Thank you for saving this guy's life. You prevented us from losing another family member."
Just as Jiang Liu was about to reach out to return the gesture, he was suddenly interrupted by Wang Chao. "Senmu, what do you mean? What do you mean by saying we haven't lost another family member? Who died?"
The faces of Senmu and Lin Mei Mei fell significantly as they looked at Wang Chao with a hint of pity. "Don't be sad. The one who died is Brother Yu."
"Impossible! How could Brother Yu die? You're lying to me, right?"
Wang Chao looked at the two with hope, wishing this was just a cruel joke. But after a long pause, he saw that Senmu and Lin Mei Mei's faces were still filled with sorrow.
Wang Chao despaired, "I don't believe it. I can't believe it. With Brother Yu's intelligence, how could he possibly die!"
Lin Mei Mei looked at Wang Chao with sympathy. After hesitating for a long time, she sighed. "A few days after you left, Brother Yu also received a mission, just like you—he was tasked with leading new recruits."
"Then it's even less likely! Brother Yu would never die on such a trivial mission!"
"Let me explain," Senmu interjected, stopping Lin Mei Mei from speaking further. He turned to Wang Chao and said, "I learned about this from other team members. Brother Yu was killed by one of the new recruits we were supposed to accept. There was a conflict between them due to dissatisfaction with how the recruit handled the situation, and in the end, Brother Yu was killed by him just before the incident concluded."
Wang Chao glared at Senmu in anger. "Tell me who that bastard is! I want to kill him!"
Senmu ignored Wang Chao's hands gripping his collar and shook his head. "I don't know. None of the other team members know who that recruit is. He never revealed his real name to anyone throughout the entire ordeal, and from what I've heard about his intelligence and cold-bloodedness, it’s terrifying. So I suggest you calm down first."
"Calm down? How can I calm down? The one who died is Brother Yu! It's Brother Yu! Why aren't you avenging him?"
"How can we avenge Brother Yu? You don’t even know what that recruit looks like! If Brother Yu was killed by him, then no matter who goes—me, Lin Mei Mei, or you—it will only lead to losing another family member!"
"I don't care! Even so, I will avenge Brother Yu!"
Before Wang Chao could finish his sentence, Senmu punched him hard in the face and pointed angrily at Lin Mei Mei standing beside them. "And what about us? Brother Yu is our family too! Are we not?"
Wang Chao looked at Lin Mei Mei, who was shedding tears but holding back her sobs. He opened his mouth as if to say something but found himself unable to utter a word.
Senmu sighed when he saw Wang Chao's silence. "I want revenge for Brother Yu more than any of you, but what we need right now is to calm down, not act impulsively."
"I'm sorry," Wang Chao said softly to the two of them.
"Have you calmed down? If you have, then let's go home. Dream Sister has already prepared dinner and is waiting for us." After finishing, Senmu looked at Jiang Liu. "I'm sorry you had to witness this."
"It's okay, we're all family now," Jiang Liu quickly waved his hand.
"That's good that you can think that way." After speaking with Jiang Liu, Senmu turned to the silent Wang Chao. "Go apologize to Lin Mei Mei. Don't you realize how hurtful your words were just now?"
Wang Chao looked at Lin Mei Mei, who had turned her head away, and whispered an apology. "I'm sorry, Lin Mei Mei. I didn't mean to—"
"Get lost! I don't want an apology from a jerk like you."
With that, she turned and walked into the darkness behind her, completely ignoring the three men left standing there.
"Let's go. What are you still doing here?"
Senmu kicked Wang Chao lightly and then signaled for Jiang Liu to follow. The three men proceeded behind the little girl.
