Horror Chapter
"Is the next part the key? Then everything you said before was just nonsense?"
Wang Chao glared angrily at Jiang Liu, wanting nothing more than to punch that seemingly harmless face. All the time wasted earlier was just to listen to Jiang Liu's pointless ramblings.
Seeing Wang Chao's clenched teeth, Jiang Liu quickly explained, "No, what I mean is that you need to understand what I said earlier before you can grasp what comes next."
Wang Chao lowered his fist, which had been raised in anger, and threatened him fiercely, "Keep going. If you keep talking nonsense, don't blame me for hitting you."
"Understood, understood." Jiang Liu cleared his throat and continued, "You all agree with the assumptions I made earlier, right? Great. So have you noticed that within what I said before, the event itself did something unnecessary?"
"Unnecessary? Be clear."
"I mean, don't you think it's strange that Xu Ya disappeared from all our memories because she got involved in another supernatural event? The question is, why did the event erase our memories of her?"
"That's a lot of questions. It's not like Xu Ya got involved in another supernatural incident or anything. No! The reason other people's memories were erased is because they didn't know about the supernatural events. But we already knew about them; this action..."
"Is completely unnecessary, right?" Jiang Liu interjected. "So have you thought about why the event would go out of its way to do this? Even if we noticed Xu Ya's sudden disappearance, we would just assume she was killed by a ghost."
"Are you suggesting this is a clue?" Wang Chao was uncertain about this possibility.
"Pretty much," Jiang Liu nodded, indicating he shared the same thought. He continued, "Although it's not certain, we can hypothesize that it serves as a clue."
"Since you've come this far, it means you already know what the clue implies. Just spill it," Wang Chao said impatiently, urging Jiang Liu for an answer.
"Alright then. I previously mentioned that there are two ways ghosts can blend in among us, and the second possibility is the most likely. Now let's put these two points together: the ghost remains undetected because of the extra memories in our minds, while Xu Ya disappears from all our memories due to her involvement in another supernatural event. At this point, the identity of the ghost becomes clear."
"This all hinges on your assumptions. Don't forget that Sun Miao mentioned earlier that Xu Ya had already died in the hallway. If she were a ghost, this supernatural event should have ended long ago instead of everyone being trapped in this room."
Wang Chao reminded him, initially thinking Jiang Liu had overlooked this major flaw. However, he soon noticed a confident smirk forming at the corner of Jiang Liu's mouth.
"I had already thought of this, which is why I dared to speculate that there is another supernatural event happening on this campus."
"I'm confused by you; what do these two points have to do with each other?"
"They are related, and in a significant way." Jiang Liu stared at Wang Chao's face, a strange glint in his eyes. "Xu Ya is the source of our current supernatural incident, but she has entered another supernatural event. If we reverse this, could it be possible that the ghost from the other incident has also followed Xu Ya back into our current supernatural event?"
Wang Chao swore that only someone like Jiang Liu, who had only a superficial understanding of supernatural events, could come up with such a bizarre idea because it was utterly impossible!
Did he think this was just a casual visit between neighbors?
But as he pondered further, he had to admit that Jiang Liu's absurd speculation was the closest to the truth at that moment. Not knowing how to argue against it, he stubbornly replied, "Do you have any proof to support your idea?"
"Very simple. Just think about everything that has happened since we entered the dormitory. Our current supernatural incident should be a real supernatural event. Although our previous experiences were thrilling, everything was still happening in reality. But!"
Jiang Liu pointed at the walls around them seriously. "Do you think what we're experiencing now is still part of the previous supernatural event? Or are we still in reality?"
Wang Chao stood there as if struck by lightning, dazed. Memories from before flashed through his mind like a slideshow.
A few seconds later, coming back to his senses, Wang Chao trembled as he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took several deep puffs before speaking. "So the other supernatural incident must be the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident?"
Only then did Jiang Liu realize that Wang Chao also smoked but didn't pay much attention to it. He nodded and said, "Exactly. In fact, our incident ended the moment Xu Ya died. However, because the ghost from the other incident followed Xu Ya into this supernatural event, it caused changes to occur. Or perhaps we are actually in that Alternate Dimension Incident right now."
"Then it's over; we have no idea about anything related to that incident. How do we escape?" Wang Chao said despairingly.
The Smiling Man and Lin Feng still didn't understand what the two were talking about, but one thing they gathered from Wang Chao's tone was clear: their chances of escaping alive were slim to none; everyone might die here.
At that moment, the lights above them began to flicker ominously, contrasting sharply with the sudden darkness they had experienced before, as if giving a final notice to the nine people alive in the room.
Wang Chao helplessly sat on the ground, ignoring the blood flowing down and staining his clothes red. He looked at the flickering large glass lamp and grimly smiled. "Is it already at the end? I never expected to die like this."
The expression on the Smiling Man's face clearly struggled for a moment, but he ultimately sighed and asked Jiang Liu in despair, "There's no way out, is there?"
The series of astonishing deductions made the Smiling Man admire Jiang Liu's intelligence deeply. He was making one last effort; if he heard despair in Jiang Liu's final response, he would follow through with his earlier thoughts and make one last attempt. He didn't want to die here, to vanish from this world without understanding why.
He still had plenty of time ahead to waste, many things left undone. He was unwilling to give up or surrender easily.
At that moment, Lin Feng appeared much quieter, helplessly crouching on the ground, mumbling something indistinctly as tears flooded his eyes.
Meanwhile, the other five survivors began to lose their sanity due to the suddenly flickering lights, attacking each other in a frenzy. They accused one another of being the ghost, as if they were making a final effort. They had also heard Jiang Liu's initial deduction and believed that one among the four others must surely be the ghost.
Seeing this scene unfold, Jiang Liu did not stop their frantic behavior. Once he realized that the situation had changed, he no longer cared about the lives of those five.
He watched the flickering lights, his thoughts racing through his mind.
No, it was impossible for an event to present an unavoidable death mission. Even if the situation had changed, there would definitely be corresponding hints. Surely he had overlooked something? But what had he missed?
Classroom, corpse, dormitory, high heels... high heels?!
Suddenly, a change came over Jiang Liu's face as if he had thought of something. He quickly turned to look in a specific direction—the direction where the high heels had disappeared when he arrived here and where the terrifying gaze had been directed at him.
A gamble emerged in his mind.
The flickering of the overhead glass light grew more frantic, creating an illusion that it would extinguish at any moment.
"Wang Chao, Lin Feng, stand up! Let's all hold hands and get ready to charge!"
"Charge? Charge where?" Wang Chao asked Jiang Liu with confusion.
At this moment, Lin Feng lifted his head, tears streaming down his face as he looked at Jiang Liu in bewilderment. Only the Smiling Man gazed at Jiang Liu with surprise and anticipation.
"There's no time to explain, quickly stand up and hold hands with me as we rush forward," Jiang Liu said anxiously, looking at the flickering lights above.
At that moment, a glimmer of hope surged within Wang Chao. Regardless of the outcome, he had no choice but to trust Jiang Liu. He reached down and pulled Lin Feng up from the ground. The four of them held hands, ready to follow Jiang Liu at any moment.
"Jiang Liu, there's something I have to tell you."
Just as they were preparing to charge forward when the lights went out, Wang Chao suddenly spoke up.
"What is it? Hurry!"
"You were so damn cool when you were reasoning things out!"
The light above finally extinguished after Wang Chao's words fell, plunging them into darkness.
"Go!"
With determination from Jiang Liu, anger from Wang Chao, Lin Feng's sobs, and Smiling Man's reluctance, the four of them let out their final cry together.
They had to get it right!
