Horror Chapter
"Since it's just us left in this room, let's continue from where we left off. It's not the time for any more secrets," Jiang Liu said, looking at the Smiling Man. "Actually, just as you guessed, Wang Chao and I have known about the supernatural events from the very beginning."
The Smiling Man was not surprised at all; instead, he pointed at Lin Feng and asked, "What about him?"
"He's not involved; he's just an unfortunate soul, just like you," Wang Chao interjected.
"Wang Chao is right. In fact, we know more about the supernatural events than you do, but now is not the time for that. You'll have a chance to learn later. First, let me ask you a question: before you met Xu Ya, did you see her in the classroom? Or do you have any memories related to her?"
"I don't have any."
"Then I understand. Wang Chao, hold on a moment while I sort this out step by step. Smiling Man, I still don't know your name."
"Sun Miao."
"Sun Miao, right? So before Sun Miao met Xu Ya, there were no memories of her at all. Can we assume that it’s not just our memories that were altered but that everyone's memories in the class were tampered with, erasing this person named Xu Ya from our minds?
The key to awakening memories about Xu Ya, I guess, lies in seeing her. Let's set aside Lin Feng's situation for now. So the question is: why erase memories of Xu Ya and then awaken them after seeing her?"
Wang Chao followed Jiang Liu's line of thought and replied uncertainly, "It must be some kind of hint."
Jiang Liu ignored Wang Chao's answer and continued, "There's one more thing you might have noticed: when Sun Miao saw Xu Ya again, she acted like a madwoman talking about the supernatural events. What do you think about that?"
Wang Chao stroked his chin and said, "She seems like a newcomer. I've seen many newcomers react the same way when they learn the truth."
"Exactly, newcomer. Xu Ya's reaction was just like that of a rookie. I remember at the beginning of the semester, besides you, I was the only one in our class who noticed something was off. So let's make an assumption: what if Xu Ya was just an innocent bystander caught up in a supernatural event, like Sun Miao and the others? What do you think could happen that would make a girl who knows nothing suddenly aware of a supernatural incident, and have everything about her erased from our memories?"
Wang Chao's expression turned serious as he replied without hesitation, "Unless someone tells her, it's basically impossible for a newcomer to know. I see what you mean; you think there are more participants in this supernatural event than just the two of us?"
"That's not it. While that possibility is high, just look at the other five people to see that it's zero. So another bold hypothesis popped into my mind: what if there’s more than one supernatural event happening in this school?"
"Impossible. I'd rather believe Lin Feng is a participant than accept that possibility," Wang Chao firmly rejected Jiang Liu's theory.
Jiang Liu glanced at Wang Chao and sighed, "I may not know as much about supernatural events as you do, but for me, when all possibilities are ruled out, no matter how absurd the remaining possibility is, I'm willing to believe it is the closest to the truth."
Wang Chao opened his mouth as if to argue but ultimately held back, feeling powerless. "Go on."
"If my earlier guess is correct, then everything falls into place. Xu Ya got caught up in another supernatural event, which erased everything about her from all our memories. I suspect Xu Ya was definitely in our class at the beginning of the semester; she just disappeared after a few days, and none of us knew."
"Later, Xu Ya survived another supernatural incident and learned about it. The place she appeared should be the dormitory. So after Sun Miao saw her, everything about her returned to our memories again, and she acted like a madwoman—likely because she couldn't handle it all."
"Well, even if that's how the truth is, it doesn't help our current situation at all," Wang Chao said with a bitter smile.
Little did he know, Jiang Liu smiled mysteriously.
"No, this is where everything becomes crucial!"
