Horror Chapter
The words spoken by the boy struck Jiang Liu deeply, especially coming from Wang Chao.
Wang Chao considered himself somewhat of a veteran when it came to supernatural events. He was aware of certain taboos surrounding these occurrences and had witnessed the punishments faced by those who violated them during previous incidents. The memories of those who had crossed the line haunted him, filling him with dread.
From the moment Jiang Liu shared the details of the supernatural event with Lin Feng, Wang Chao realized that Jiang Liu was a newcomer—someone who only had a superficial understanding of such matters. Jiang Liu was unaware of the consequences of triggering a taboo, or perhaps he only knew what he had been told about the repercussions faced by others.
However, at that moment, Wang Chao did not stop Jiang Liu. Given the circumstances, anything he said would have been heard by Lin Feng, thereby violating the taboo.
So he remained silent, watching the two with an expression akin to that of a spectator at a grim spectacle.
Supernatural events were like a curse; anyone who used them or even knew about them would be ensnared by their malevolence.
With this thought in mind, Wang Chao regarded everyone in the room with a gaze that seemed to see through to their very souls. He instinctively understood what Jiang Liu meant when he referred to the final destination.
This room, resembling a birdcage, might very well be the ultimate site of this supernatural event. It was as if everyone present in Classroom 000 had inexplicably arrived here, regardless of their willingness to be part of it.
The ensuing conversation between Jiang Liu and the boy confirmed Wang Chao's suspicions.
"Classmate, I want to believe what you said earlier, but I need to know how you came to learn about this matter," Jiang Liu began to probe.
The boy instinctively turned to glance at the crowd behind him but quickly realized that such an action was inappropriate. He halted his movement and looked back at Jiang Liu, his tone growing rigid. "Right now, we can't trust you, so we have nothing to say."
Jiang Liu noticed the boy's actions and glanced at the crowd nearby. Without revealing his thoughts, he smoothly changed the topic, saying, "Then let's put that aside for now. Can you tell me why we need to prove that we are human?"
The boy hesitated upon hearing Jiang Liu's question, seemingly contemplating whether to share the information with him and the others.
But he quickly made a decision, feeling that if he were in Jiang Liu's position, he would want someone to explain the reason rather than simply forcing him to answer.
"It's fine to tell you this. When we arrived here, we learned about a way to escape."
Hearing this, Jiang Liu furrowed his brow slightly and interrupted the boy, "Since you found out how to escape, then what was the point of earlier letting us know about a method to get out?"
The boy sighed lightly and explained, "Because we all thought that method was wrong. Later, when you suddenly showed up, it gave us a glimmer of hope. We hoped that perhaps you could provide another way out."
Jiang Liu nodded in acceptance of the boy's explanation, signaling him to continue.
"I'm not sure how I came by this information; it just appeared in my mind inexplicably. There’s a ghost among us, and only by identifying who it is can we escape. That's also why we need you to prove that you are human."
After listening to the boy's account, Jiang Liu felt even more confused. The boy's words made the entire supernatural incident seem even murkier.
From Jiang Liu's perspective, there were significant gaps in the boy's explanations; he was withholding details about certain matters.
What did it mean that everyone thought this method was wrong? How could they know it was wrong without trying it?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Jiang Liu recalled the corpses he had seen in the classroom and the blood-dripping knives still held by some boys in the crowd. A sense of wariness began to creep into his heart towards the boy.
Wang Chao pondered for a moment before approaching Jiang Liu and asked, "Do you believe what he said?"
"I don't. There are too many inconsistencies, but the method of escaping here should be true, similar to what we speculated earlier," Jiang Liu replied, subtly gesturing towards the crowd across from them. He lowered his voice, "Although we don't know what happened after we left the classroom, the numbers clearly don't add up."
Wang Chao noticed this as well and nodded in agreement. "They probably had a shootout before we arrived here."
While Jiang Liu and Wang Chao were conversing, the boy across from them could no longer wait. He shouted at the three of them, "We've already explained the reasons to you. Now you can prove yourselves to us, right?"
"I'm sorry," Jiang Liu said, looking at the boy. "We can't provide any evidence to prove that we are human, but we can tell you what happened before we got here, and you can judge for yourselves."
The boy frowned and walked back into the crowd, seemingly discussing with others whether they agreed with this suggestion.
After a while, the crowd ceased their discussions. The boy stepped forward again and looked at the three of them. "We know this is a bit unreasonable, so we agree to your suggestion. However, if we find any lies in your story..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but Jiang Liu believed that if they were discovered to be lying, an overwhelming battle would surely await them.
