Horror Chapter
Jiang Liu looked at the now quiet Lin Feng, patted his shoulder, and turned to Wang Chao.
"Now that we know the characteristics of the person Lin Feng encountered—a woman with short hair—what do you want to do next?"
"Of course, we need to find that person. She must be the source of all this; otherwise, Lin Feng wouldn't have trouble recalling her appearance. Only by finding her can we put an end to everything," Wang Chao replied firmly.
"But can you really identify her based on just those two characteristics? You have to remember, there are quite a few girls in our class, and even among those with short hair, there are at least a dozen," Jiang Liu countered, trying to bring him back to reality.
Wang Chao opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something but ultimately held back. He sighed and asked Jiang Liu, "So what should we do?"
"First, let's get out of here. After that, we'll take it one step at a time. Can you still stand?"
The first part of the sentence was directed at Wang Chao, while the latter was aimed at Lin Feng, who had calmed down.
Lin Feng shook his head. "My body feels a bit weak, but I should be able to manage."
Jiang Liu didn't say much more; he suspected that Lin Feng's current state was due to the forced recollection. He lifted one of Lin Feng's arms and signaled for Wang Chao to help him support Lin Feng.
For Wang Chao, Lin Feng had always been a burden, especially after encountering terrifying scenes that led to his mental breakdown.
So he felt somewhat dissatisfied with Jiang Liu's request. However, considering that the clue had come from Lin Feng's mouth and was of great help to both of them, he reluctantly agreed to assist.
The two of them positioned themselves on either side of Lin Feng, and at that moment, Wang Chao asked Jiang Liu, "Where should we go?"
Jiang Liu glanced back at the corridor behind him, then looked ahead and pondered for a moment before saying, "Let's keep moving forward. Right now, we only have two choices: to go back or to continue onward."
Wang Chao didn't say much more and supported Lin Feng as they slowly walked ahead.
After just a few steps, he suddenly thought of something and asked Jiang Liu, "By the way, you haven't told me how you got to the fourth floor. Did anything happen along the way?"
"Actually, it's not that important. When I walked out of the first floor with that ghost impersonating you, I headed straight for the fourth floor. It was quite calm; nothing happened."
"Nothing at all?" Wang Chao was surprised.
"Yeah, not a single thing." At this point, Jiang Liu thought for a moment. "Well, I can't say nothing happened. We had different opinions on where to go next. I insisted on finding Lin Feng first, while that ghost impersonating you said escaping from here was the most important thing."
"So how did you convince the ghost to come to the fourth floor?" Wang Chao asked curiously.
"I didn't really convince it; I just insisted on checking if Lin Feng was in his dormitory on the fourth floor. The ghost simply followed me after a couple of words." Jiang Liu changed his tone slightly, half-laughing and half-crying. "Actually, at that time, Owen should have noticed something was off with you."
"Oh? How so?"
"You were acting differently than usual back then."
"Differently? Can you be more specific?"
Wang Chao was eager to know what kind of person he appeared to Jiang Liu in his usual demeanor. He stared into the darkness ahead and thought for a moment before saying, "Well, usually when I insist on doing something, you always ask me why. You only agree once you understand my reasons. But back then, you didn't ask anything; you just followed me."
"Then according to you, how could you not think of such an obvious place back then?"
"I was thinking about other things at the time, so I didn't notice this detail," Jiang Liu said with a wry smile.
"What were you thinking about? You seemed so engrossed that you didn't even notice such an obvious flaw," Wang Chao asked curiously.
"Actually, it wasn't much. I was just thinking about the footsteps we heard on the first floor," Jiang Liu paused for a moment. "It felt like a hint to me."
"A hint? What kind of hint? Are you saying that ghosts make noise when they walk?" Wang Chao chuckled.
However, Jiang Liu did not continue to engage him. Instead, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, a flash of insight illuminating his mind as a figure appeared in his thoughts.
Seeing Jiang Liu freeze, Wang Chao also halted and asked, "What's wrong? Why did you stop all of a sudden?"
To his surprise, Jiang Liu's face was now filled with a bitter smile, his voice trembling slightly. "I thought of someone."
Wang Chao's expression turned serious in an instant, his tone earnest. "Who? Tell me who you thought of!"
"I can't tell you yet; I just suddenly considered this possibility."
Jiang Liu knew that once he shared this suspicion with Wang Chao, he would react strongly. But right now, he couldn't be sure if his thoughts were correct, so he tried to explain himself to Wang Chao in hopes of calming him down.
Unexpectedly, Wang Chao suddenly released Lin Feng's arm and stepped directly in front of Jiang Liu, looking at him with a serious and earnest expression. "Tell me, who did you think of?"
"I... I don't have much confidence in my guess."
Jiang Liu hoped that his explanation would quell Wang Chao's desire to continue questioning, but Wang Chao persisted, repeating his earlier words with an air of determination that suggested he wouldn't stop until he got to the bottom of it.
Seeing Wang Chao's resolute attitude, Jiang Liu sighed and carefully leaned Lin Feng against the wall.
"I understand. I'll share my speculation with you, but I hope that after you hear it, you'll take a moment to think it over calmly."
Wang Chao remained silent, standing in place and looking earnestly at Jiang Liu.
With another sigh, Jiang Liu sat down against the wall, adopting a comfortable position before asking Wang Chao a question:
"Do you remember the sound of footsteps we heard on the first floor?"
"I do." Wang Chao recalled the memory and replied, "It sounded like high heels."
"Then do you know what kinds of people around us would wear high heels?" Jiang Liu asked again.
"White-collar workers, mature women, socialites..." Wang Chao's expression changed as he thought of the person Jiang Liu was referring to, articulating each word carefully: "And teachers!"
"Exactly, teachers." Jiang Liu's tone was filled with a wry smile. "At first, I didn't piece it together. It wasn't until I got two other clues from Lin Feng that I realized those footsteps were giving us hints. A woman, short hair, high heels—when you put those three characteristics together, you should know who I'm talking about."
"Teacher Mei!"
"Yes, it's Teacher Mei. On the first day of school, she wore a pair of red high heels."
"Then why are you still unsure? These three clues undoubtedly point to Teacher Mei as that nonexistent person."
Wang Chao looked into Jiang Liu's eyes, eager to hear his explanation. Jiang Liu scoffed, "But how can you be sure that person is Teacher Mei? Sure, Lin Feng was a woman just now, but there are many females in our class. Short hair—don't forget that at least a few girls in our class have short hair."
"And what about the high heels? How do you explain those?"
"High heels could also mean the ghost is female; it doesn't necessarily mean Teacher Mei is that nonexistent person." Jiang Liu gazed seriously at Wang Chao. "The reason I can't confirm it is that I don't have absolute certainty that Teacher Mei is that nonexistent person. If my guess is wrong, we could end up as murderers!"
"Oh, do you know what I would do?" Wang Chao suddenly smiled at Jiang Liu.
"Yes, I know what you would do, which is why I hope you can calm down and think it through."
"I can wait for you to figure out your answer, but what about those classmates who are killing each other? Can they calm down and wait for your confirmation?" Wang Chao said with a hint of amusement.
Jiang Liu fell silent; no one knew what he was thinking. After a long pause, he finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "What if my deduction is wrong?"
Wang Chao narrowed his eyes, exuding a dangerous aura as he replied word by word, "Then we kill again!"
