Horror Chapter
Wang Chao slowly emerged from the darkness, his gaze fixed on the door of Room 404. After staring for a while, he murmured, "Why is it so quiet? Could it be that Lin Feng isn't inside?"
Jiang Liu shook his head, indicating he didn't know either. He knocked on the door again, this time with a bit more force. "Lin Feng? Are you in there? If you are, please respond. It's Jiang Liu."
The door echoed with a series of knocks: "Dong, dong, dong."
Still, no sound came from within. It seemed that Lin Feng might not be in his dorm room after all. Jiang Liu turned to Wang Chao, who was standing behind him. "It looks like Lin Feng hasn't returned to his room."
Wang Chao remained silent and unusually stepped closer to the door, pressing his ear against it to listen intently for any sounds from inside the dormitory. Jiang Liu stood by quietly, watching Wang Chao's next move.
After a moment, Wang Chao pointed at the door and whispered, "I can hear breathing inside!"
Jiang Liu's heart raced at this revelation. He hurriedly leaned in as well, preparing to press his ear against the door to listen closely. He couldn't tell if it was just his imagination or if the eerie atmosphere around them was making him feel tense.
As he got closer to Wang Chao, Jiang Liu distinctly felt a chill emanating from him, causing him to shiver involuntarily.
The cold sensation came suddenly and dissipated just as quickly. By the time Jiang Liu regained his composure, the chill had vanished, leaving him wondering if he had merely imagined the icy feeling he had sensed from Wang Chao.
Just as Jiang Liu pondered whether that feeling was a figment of his imagination, a sudden noise erupted from within Room 404. It sounded as if something had been knocked over.
Upon hearing the commotion inside, Jiang Liu quickly called out in a hushed tone, "Who’s in there? Is it Lin Feng?"
Perhaps aware that the two outside had heard the noise, someone inside finally broke the silence. A voice called out to Jiang Liu, asking, "Who are you?"
The voice that resonated from within was thick with nasal congestion, sounding almost like someone suffering from a cold. Jiang Liu immediately recognized that this nasal voice belonged to Lin Feng. Excitedly, he whispered back into the room, "It's me, Jiang Liu! Lin Feng!"
After a few seconds, the voices inside the room finally spoke up, but instead of admitting he was Lin Feng, he asked again, "How can you prove you are Jiang Liu?"
"Can't you recognize my voice?" Jiang Liu said anxiously to Lin Feng inside the room. "You need to come out quickly; it's very dangerous for you to be alone in there!"
"I know it's your voice, but what I’m asking is how you can prove you are Jiang Liu and not an impersonator!"
Lin Feng's words sounded strange, as if he didn't believe that the person speaking to him was indeed Jiang Liu. He insisted on some kind of proof.
If it were the usual Jiang Liu, he might have picked up on the underlying meaning in Lin Feng's words. However, right now, he was overwhelmed by a sense of unease that had lingered since he entered the dormitory. This feeling intensified after he reached the fourth floor.
He glanced at Wang Chao, who had been silent beside him, and then called out to Lin Feng in the room, "What do you want me to do to prove it?"
There was silence for a few seconds before Lin Feng replied again, "Something only the two of us know. I remember discussing it with you earlier."
Jiang Liu's mind raced as he tried to decipher what Lin Feng meant. Considering their relationship, he realized he knew less about Lin Feng than Wang Chao did. They rarely spoke outside of their brief conversations in the dormitory. Suddenly being asked for something only they knew made it hard for Jiang Liu to think of anything.
After pondering for a while without coming up with anything, impatience began to set in. Just as he was about to suggest that he and Wang Chao kick down the door together, a flash of memory struck him. He recalled something Lin Feng had mentioned a few days ago.
Looking at the door, he whispered, "I remember now. A few days ago in the dormitory, you said you felt something was off around you. Is that what you're referring to?"
After Jiang Liu spoke, there was silence for a few seconds before a low sobbing sound came from inside the room. The voice trembled and broke as it said, "Jiang... Jiang Liu... I'm so scared; there are dead people all around."
Jiang Liu leaned against the door to comfort the crying Lin Feng inside. "Don't be afraid; everything will pass."
"No, you don't understand." Lin Feng's voice suddenly rose several notches with evident agitation. "We are going to die; we will all die!"
"We're not going to die!" Jiang Liu reassured him from outside. "You need to open the door quickly; we have to find out where all this is coming from."
"You won't be able to find it; none of us can."
At that moment, Jiang Liu sensed from Lin Feng's tone that he seemed to have experienced something terrifying and was on the brink of a breakdown—one wrong move could send him spiraling into madness. He quickly urged, "Trust me; I can find it. I already have some clues. If you come out of there, we can survive."
As Jiang Liu finished speaking, the sound of quiet sobbing in the room ceased, followed by Lin Feng's voice, filled with surprise.
"Really? You really have a lead?"
"Yes, I have a lead now. If you come out of the room right away, we can go find it immediately."
Silence fell in the room again, as if contemplating the truth of Jiang Liu's words. After a few seconds, a voice replied, "Okay, I believe you. I'm opening the door now."
With that, a flurry of sounds erupted from within the room, as if something was being rummaged through. Jiang Liu let out a sigh of relief and glanced at Wang Chao with a hint of helplessness.
The chaotic sounds soon stopped, and then Lin Feng's voice came again: "I'm opening the door now."
Just as Jiang Liu agreed, a sudden commotion of hurried footsteps echoed from deep within the corridor to his left. A dark figure burst out from the dimly lit hallway.
In the faint light, Jiang Liu felt that the shadowy figure seemed somewhat familiar, but he couldn't quite recall where he had seen it before. Then it struck him—he remembered the Blood Man they had encountered in the teaching building who had tried to kill them. His nerves tensed up as he fixed his gaze on the dark figure.
The shadow drew closer and just as Jiang Liu was about to call for the person to stop, the figure halted on its own. Then, illuminated by the dim light, an incredibly familiar face appeared before Jiang Liu's eyes.
It was Wang Chao's face!
