Horror Chapter
The office of Teacher Mei was located on an upper floor, and the group quickly made their way there. Jiang Liu, in his impatience, pushed the door open without knocking. Lin Feng, following behind, initially worried they might get scolded for barging in, but the scene that greeted them left him stunned.
The office was empty; not a single person was inside. Lin Feng called out in confusion, "Hey, isn't Teacher Mei here?"
Ignoring Lin Feng's bewilderment, Jiang Liu turned to Wang Chao. "Everyone is gone. Something must have happened."
"Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. We should check other classrooms," Wang Chao suggested.
Deep down, both of them sensed that something truly strange was occurring, but neither wanted to entertain that thought just yet. Without calling for Lin Feng, they exited the office.
They split up to search; Jiang Liu checked the classrooms on this floor while Wang Chao headed upstairs to see if anyone was in the classes above.
As he ran, Jiang Liu paused at each classroom door to glance inside. As expected, every room was just as empty as the last—no students at all. The only sound echoing through the corridor was the rhythm of his own footsteps.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng noticed the absence of both Jiang Liu and Wang Chao in the office and jumped in surprise. However, he soon heard footsteps echoing down the hallway. Stepping out of the office, he found only Jiang Liu alone; Wang Chao was nowhere to be seen. Seeing Jiang Liu sprinting toward the far end of the corridor, he hurried after him.
They reached the end of the hallway without encountering anyone else. Lin Feng caught up and gasped, "Why did you suddenly take off? And why is there no one in any of the other classes?"
Jiang Liu was too anxious to respond; he was waiting for news from Wang Chao. Noticing Jiang Liu's troubled expression, Lin Feng fell silent, sensing that something was amiss. Before long, chaotic footsteps echoed from within the building, growing louder with each passing moment. At that sound, Jiang Liu instinctively felt as if he had returned to the haunted building from their military training.
The footsteps drew closer until Wang Chao appeared in the hallway, panting heavily and looking rather pale.
"There's no one upstairs either—not a single person."
Jiang Liu gestured for Wang Chao to catch his breath and furrowed his brow as he turned to Lin Feng, who looked anxious beside him. "Can you feel any chill right now?"
Lin Feng paused for a moment, unsure why Jiang Liu was asking him this question but instinctively shook his head. "No, I don't."
"Wang Chao" intermittently asked "Jiang Liu," "What are you asking him for? What can he possibly know?"
"Jiang Liu" shook his head and did not answer "Wang Chao's" question. Instead, he said, "You should rest a bit longer. Once you're feeling better, we'll head back to the classroom."
"Wang Chao" waved his hand dismissively. "No need for that. Let's go back now."
Seeing "Wang Chao" like this, "Jiang Liu" stopped insisting. He helped "Wang Chao" up and started walking downstairs. At that moment, "Lin Feng," who had been in a daze, suddenly called out to them, "What’s going on? Why do you keep running around and then want to go back?"
"Jiang Liu" turned to look at "Lin Feng," his expression hesitant. After a moment of thought, he replied, "I can't tell you everything right now, but you’re coming with us."
"You have to explain what’s happening! Where did everyone else go?"
At this point, "Lin Feng" was particularly stubborn, standing his ground as if he wouldn’t move until he got an explanation. "Wang Chao," growing impatient, turned back to him and said, "If you want to know what’s really going on, just follow us."
After hesitating for a moment, "Lin Feng" saw that "Wang Chao" had already turned away and was following "Jiang Liu" down without looking back. Panicking, he hurriedly followed them.
When they returned to the classroom, the scene that greeted them left all three stunned.
They had no idea what had transpired during their absence. The classroom was strewn with bodies in disarray, blood splattered everywhere. In their hurried state, both "Jiang Liu" and "Wang Chao" could see several dismembered limbs scattered across various corners of the room.
Fortunately for "Jiang Liu" and "Wang Chao," they had encountered even more gruesome scenes before, so they didn’t react too strongly. They were merely curious about what had happened to their classmates during their absence and why the classroom had turned into such a bloody scene.
Just as they were pondering this, "Lin Feng," who had followed them in, caught sight of the gruesome sight in the classroom and immediately turned around to vomit.
"Jiang Liu," seeing that "Lin Feng" was about to bring up his lunch along with bile, shook his head at "Wang Chao." "We need to go in and check it out."
"Wang Chao" nodded in agreement and ignored the still retching "Lin Feng." The two of them headed straight into the classroom.
As they approached the professor, the two of them realized that the number of dead in the classroom was far greater than what they had seen from outside. Counting carefully, there seemed to be between ten and fifteen corpses. The reason they couldn't get an exact count was that some bodies had been shattered into many pieces, making it impossible to determine exactly how many people had died.
Wang Chao, after surveying the classroom, spoke up, "This is a bit strange."
Jiang Liu turned around to see Wang Chao crouched in front of a corpse, his expression showing some confusion. Jiang Liu walked over and discovered that the body was male. After observing for a while, he didn't find anything unusual about the corpse as Wang Chao had suggested, so he asked, "What did you find?"
Wang Chao pointed at several other bodies and asked, "Did you not notice?"
Jiang Liu replied in confusion, "Notice what?"
Wang Chao gestured towards another area where body parts were scattered. "The manner of death; this body is different from the others."
With Wang Chao's reminder, Jiang Liu took a closer look and indeed noticed that among the ten or so corpses in the classroom, they could be roughly divided into two categories: one group had relatively intact bodies with no visible signs of how they died, while the other group had met a gruesome fate, their bodies torn into several pieces scattered across various corners of the classroom.
Just as Jiang Liu was pondering this, Wang Chao suddenly exclaimed and dashed toward a nearby intact body, clearly having discovered something. Jiang Liu quickly followed him.
When they reached the body, Jiang Liu found it somewhat familiar. After a moment's thought, he realized it was the female classmate who had sat behind him a few rows back. A pen was stabbed into her left eye; only a short length of it was visible, with the tip likely embedded deep within her brain. The cause of death was clearly due to that pen.
At that moment, both of them felt an ominous sensation rising within them.
