Horror Chapter
The voice ended here, and after listening to the recording, Wang Chao's face turned pale, his tone trembling slightly. He looked at Jiang Liu, who was equally shocked. "Is that it? It just ends like this?"
"How would I know? The recorder is in your hands," Jiang Liu replied with a hint of amusement.
"Oh, right. Let me see if there are any other recordings."
Wang Chao began fiddling with the recorder again. After a while, he shook his head in disappointment. "That's it; that was the last recording."
He put the headphones away into his pocket. Jiang Liu remained silent, staring blankly at the white wall in front of him, lost in thought.
Seeing Jiang Liu like this, Wang Chao couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
"What do you mean?" Jiang Liu responded, confused.
"Don't play dumb. I'm asking if you think the methods mentioned in the recording can be trusted."
"I don't know," Jiang Liu shook his head but then added, "But deep down, I want to believe what Jia Ren's Place said."
"Why?" Wang Chao was curious about why Jiang Liu agreed with Jia Ren's Place's methods.
"Didn't you notice that the things mentioned at the end of the recording are very similar to what we speculated before?" Jiang Liu's tone suddenly intensified as he looked into Wang Chao's eyes. "Just like how we are right now."
"You mean our surroundings?"
"That's right, there's one more thing that can verify the content of the recording is true."
"What is it?"
"Our memories have been altered," Jiang Liu explained. "We couldn't understand before why this paranormal event would tamper with our memories, but now I realize it was all to prevent us from discovering the nonexistent One Person in Classroom 000."
Wang Chao pondered Jiang Liu's words and found them to be quite reasonable, but there was something he hesitated about. "So are we really going to have to kill someone to get through this paranormal event?"
"That might be unavoidable, but we still have some options," Jiang Liu analyzed. "The two methods mentioned in the recording—let's not consider the second one for now. We still have plenty of time as long as we find that nonexistent One Person; we can escape this curse."
"But we have no idea who that nonexistent One Person is. How are we supposed to find them?"
Jiang Liu fell silent, shaking his head after a long pause. "I don't know either. Our clues are too few to identify who the ghost is."
Wang Chao scratched his head, looking at Jiang Liu hesitantly. "What if we can't find out who the ghost is? Does that mean we'll have to resort to the second method?"
Jiang Liu said nothing, standing up and gazing at the sun about to disappear on the horizon. "If it comes to that, we'll deal with it then."
Perhaps both of them sensed that this paranormal event might unfold as they imagined, so they instinctively stopped discussing the topic. After a lengthy conversation without any conclusions, they decided to halt their previous plans and focus on the others in the classroom. During this time, they refrained from going outside.
As dawn broke on the second day, it seemed that the impact of the recording weighed heavily on both of them; they were among the first to arrive at Classroom 000.
While waiting for class to start, the two of them focused intently, paying attention to the movements of their classmates. As expected, they noticed nothing unusual; everyone was behaving like ordinary students, playing and joking around.
The classroom remained noisy until the bell rang.
Five minutes had passed since class was supposed to begin, but Teacher Mei, who always arrived on time to teach, was unusually absent. Jiang Liu began to feel that something was off. He turned to Wang Chao and signaled him with a glance to be alert.
Wang Chao noticed Jiang Liu's gesture and nodded in response.
Seeing that Teacher Mei had not yet arrived, the other students in the class became even more unruly. Unable to contain his growing unease, Jiang Liu decided to head to the office to find Teacher Mei.
His departure did not attract the attention of his classmates; the noise continued unabated as he walked out of the classroom.
He couldn't shake the feeling that the hallway was unusually quiet. Aside from the noise coming from their classroom, he could hardly hear anything from the other classrooms.
Curiously, he approached the window of the adjacent classroom, only to find it completely empty—there wasn't a single person in sight.
A chill ran down his spine as he realized how strange this situation was. Normally, he would see at least a few students in other classes, but now there wasn't a soul around. It was almost unheard of for their classroom to be the only one making noise in such a quiet hallway.
To confirm his suspicions, Jiang Liu walked toward other classrooms and was shocked to discover that they were all just as empty as before. After checking every classroom on his floor, he felt a rising panic as he realized that everyone else was gone, leaving only his class behind.
Things were unfolding in a way that matched Jiang Liu's fears. He began to panic as the raucous sounds from his classroom echoed in his ears. Just when he was trying to make sense of it all, Wang Chao's voice suddenly called out from behind him.
"Hey Jiang Liu, why are you just standing there by yourself?"
Turning back, he saw Wang Chao had also left the classroom at some point, accompanied by someone else—Lin Feng, who was from Jiang Liu's dormitory.
Wang Chao seemed unaware that there were no students in the other classrooms, but Lin Feng noticed right away. Curiously, he pointed at the empty classrooms and asked, "Where is everyone? Why is no one here?"
Wang Chao glanced at the other classrooms, his expression changing, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he quickened his pace to reach Jiang Liu's side and asked quietly before Lin Feng could catch up, "What’s going on?"
Jiang Liu shook his head in response. "I don't know either. It was like this when I came out. And why did he follow you?"
Wang Chao looked back at Lin Feng, who was still observing the other classrooms. "He knows you. When he saw you rush out, he thought something was wrong and wanted to check it out."
Jiang Liu wanted to say more, but Lin Feng had already approached them. He had no choice but to stop talking and asked Lin Feng, "Why did you come out?"
Lin Feng replied, "I saw you rushing out of the classroom and thought something happened, so I came to see."
"It's nothing. I just noticed that Teacher Mei hasn't come to class yet, so I thought I'd go call her."
"Oh, I see. Since we're all out now, we might as well go together," Lin Feng suggested.
Seeing Lin Feng's determination, Jiang Liu realized there was no way they would return to the classroom now. Reluctantly, he agreed, and the three of them headed toward Teacher Mei's office.
