Horror Chapter
Wang Chao did not understand why he felt a sudden wave of fear towards Jiang Liu. This fear came so unexpectedly that he was caught completely off guard.
Looking into Jiang Liu's calm eyes and hearing his flat tone, Wang Chao pondered for a long time before realizing the source of his fear. It was Jiang Liu's indifference to life and his unwavering confidence in the plan ahead that unsettled him.
It seemed almost laughable; if Wang Chao had met Jiang Liu for the first time at this moment, he might have thought that Jiang Liu's coldness towards life stemmed from having experienced too many supernatural events, leading him to view death with extreme detachment. If that were the case, Wang Chao might not have felt any fear towards Jiang Liu.
Unfortunately, he had known Jiang Liu for quite some time and had come to understand what kind of person he was. Just a few days ago, or perhaps even closer to now, in the data room, Jiang Liu had displayed a demeanor similar to that of an ordinary person, filled with fear of death. Yet, in just one night, his personality underwent a drastic transformation, becoming the extremely calm and somewhat neurotic individual he was now.
Wang Chao had always believed that regardless of a person's experiences, any change in character required a process, and the duration of this process varied from person to person. However, no matter how brief the time frame, it was impossible for someone's character to change so drastically overnight.
Thus, rather than fearing Jiang Liu himself, it was more accurate to say that Wang Chao feared the sudden shift in Jiang Liu's personality.
As he gazed into Jiang Liu's tranquil eyes, Wang Chao felt his throat dry up slightly. His voice became somewhat hoarse as he asked, "Are you suggesting we do nothing and just wait for clues to come to us?"
"That's about the gist of it."
"Have you considered what would happen if your deduction is wrong? If Jia Ren really is the one who survives, then aren't we in great danger right now?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Liu remained silent and simply stared at Wang Chao, making him feel uncomfortable. After a long pause, Jiang Liu finally spoke slowly: "There is no such thing as absolute certainty in this world. What I am suggesting is merely what I believe to be the most likely possibility. I cannot make you believe it, just as you have no solid grounds to refute what I just said."
Wang Chao opened his mouth to respond but was interrupted by Jiang Liu: "Let's put today's matters aside for now. If all goes well, we should have news soon."
Seeing Jiang Liu's attitude, Wang Chao felt there was little more to say. He chuckled awkwardly and asked, "So what should we do now?"
"Let's head back. It's getting late; we should check if anything has happened in the classroom."
Wang Chao no longer wanted to stay outside like this, so he agreed with Jiang Liu's suggestion.
When Jiang Liu returned to the dormitory, he saw Lin Feng lying on the bed. Instinctively thinking something had happened in the classroom, he asked, "Why are you back so early? Did something happen in class?"
Lin Feng, seeing that it was Jiang Liu who had returned, replied somewhat listlessly, "It's nothing serious. Teacher Mei is feeling a bit unwell today, so we got let out early."
"Oh, I see. But why are you just lying here instead of going out to have some fun?"
"I don't feel like going out. I just feel a bit off inside."
Hearing that Lin Feng was feeling unwell, Jiang Liu asked with concern, "What's wrong? Do you have a fever?"
"No, it's not that. My body is fine; I just feel anxious for some reason."
Since it wasn't a fever, Jiang Liu didn't think much of it and casually said, "That anxiety might be because you've been exercising too little lately. Just go for a couple of laps outside and you'll be fine."
Unexpectedly, Lin Feng sat up from the bed and looked at Jiang Liu with a strange expression. "It's not because of that. A few days ago, I thought it was due to not exercising enough, so I went out for a few laps, but it didn't help."
"Didn't help?" Jiang Liu sat down on the bed and guessed based on Lin Feng's odd expression, "Could it be that you haven't been sleeping well lately?"
"Not really. I've been going to bed early and sleeping soundly through the night." At this point, Lin Feng looked at Jiang Liu and opened his mouth as if wanting to say something but ended up saying nothing.
Seeing Lin Feng's peculiar expression, Jiang Liu curiously asked, "What's wrong? You look like you're thinking about something troubling."
Lin Feng's expression changed several times before he seemed to come to a conclusion. He looked at Jiang Liu and quietly asked, "Have you felt anything strange lately? Like an eerie feeling?"
Upon hearing Lin Feng's sudden question, Jiang Liu's expression also stiffened for a moment before he chuckled awkwardly. "Why would you suddenly feel that way?"
"I don't know either," Lin Feng said, scratching his head. "I've had this feeling since the first day of school. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but over the past few days, that eerie feeling has become stronger and stronger, to the point where it's driving me nearly insane."
At this moment, Jiang Liu's expression grew serious. He looked at Lin Feng with a peculiar gaze and asked, "Is that eerie feeling something you can sense all the time, or does it only appear at specific moments?"
"It's not something I feel all the time. If it were, I might think I've encountered a ghost," Lin Feng replied to Jiang Liu. "You might not believe me, but I can only feel that eerie sensation when I'm in the classroom."
Hearing this, Jiang Liu felt a knot in his heart and thought: Could it be that Lin Feng is also one of the Escapers involved in some supernatural event?
With that in mind, Jiang Liu cautiously asked, "Do you think there are ghosts in the classroom?"
"Not exactly," Lin Feng said. "I just feel a bit scared. After all, I come from a mountain village and tend to believe in things like ghosts and spirits. If you hadn't asked me today, I wouldn't have told you any of this."
From Lin Feng's expression, Jiang Liu couldn't detect any signs of deceit. If Lin Feng was lying, he had to admire how well he had mastered the art of deception; there was nothing amiss in his demeanor.
Looking at Lin Feng's serious face, Jiang Liu suddenly recalled that he had experienced a similar feeling not long ago. However, he couldn't remember when exactly he had felt that way. Pushing down this strange sensation, he asked Lin Feng, "When did you first start feeling this way?"
"Let me think... probably around the second day of school," Lin Feng replied. "I didn't pay much attention to it back then, so I can't remember it very clearly."
As he observed Lin Feng's earnest expression, Jiang Liu felt that the situation was becoming increasingly mysterious, as if an impenetrable fog enveloped everyone in Classroom 000.
