"We shouldn't just guess randomly; how about we go take a look?" Wang Chao suggested. 0

"But the coffee hasn't arrived yet," Jiang Liu hesitated. 0

Perhaps due to the recent supernatural incident, Jiang Liu's mindset began to shift. He started to feel indifferent towards the happenings around him, no longer paying attention to what was going on. He wasn't sure if it was fear of getting involved in another incident. 0

"It's just two cups of coffee; it hasn't even arrived yet. Let's leave." 0

Wang Chao was clearly the type who loved a good spectacle, urging Jiang Liu to make a decision quickly. Annoyed by the persistent nagging, Jiang Liu had no choice but to agree. After settling the bill, the two of them left the café. 0

As they walked away, Wang Chao asked, "By the way, do we even know where the incident happened?" 0

Jiang Liu helplessly pointed toward a crowd moving in a certain direction. "Just follow the crowd; there's one thing that’s stronger here in Huaxia than in other countries." 0

"What is that?" Wang Chao asked, puzzled. 0

"The crowd that gathers to watch," Jiang Liu joked, though it was clearly not a funny joke. Seeing Wang Chao's strange expression, Jiang Liu felt uncomfortable and quickened his pace to keep up with the flow of people. 0

After walking for about seven or eight minutes, they finally spotted a large group of people gathered ahead. They hurriedly squeezed their way into the crowd, but after about five or six minutes of struggling, they realized they couldn't break through the barrier of onlookers. The frail-looking elderly people usually seen around were surprisingly strong at this moment, much to the admiration of both young men. 0

"What should we do? We can't get in," Wang Chao said irritably from outside the crowd. 0

"Forget it; since we can't get in, let's just leave," Jiang Liu clearly didn't want to join in the spectacle and tried to persuade Wang Chao to move on. 0

However, Wang Chao looked at the tightly packed crowd and cursed under his breath. "I refuse to believe that I can't push through these old men and women! You wait here for me. I’ll show them!" 0

Ignoring Jiang Liu's protests, he plunged into the throng. Watching Wang Chao struggle from outside, Jiang Liu shouted, "If you can't get in, then just give up! Don't get yourself into trouble!" 0

Before he could finish his sentence, Jiang Liu lightly slapped himself on the face. He remembered how he had jinxed things earlier in the archive room and feared that his words might come true. 0

This time, perhaps due to Wang Chao's sheer determination, he finally managed to inch his way into the crowd, despite provoking a wave of curses from others. But Wang Chao clearly pretended not to hear and continued pushing forward. 0

Jiang Liu waited outside, bored as he watched Wang Chao struggle within the mass of people. After about five or six minutes, he finally heard sirens blaring and saw Wang Chao emerge from the crowd. However, once out, Wang Chao's expression looked distinctly off—he appeared somewhat angry. 0

Seeing this, Jiang Liu felt a sinking sensation in his heart, sensing that something might have happened. He hurried over and asked, "What did you see? Why do you look so pale?" 0

At that moment, Wang Chao noticed Jiang Liu and looked up at him, opening his mouth to speak. "Something happened." 0

Hearing this, Jiang Liu's heart sank completely, and he thought to himself that he indeed had a knack for foreboding. 0

"What exactly did you see in there? Why do you look so off after coming out?" 0

"It's Jia Ren," Wang Chao said with a bitter smile. "The person who died inside is Jia Ren." 0

In an instant, Jiang Liu felt as if he had been struck by lightning, standing there in a daze as he stared blankly at Wang Chao. It wasn't until Wang Chao pulled him away that he snapped back to reality and anxiously asked, "What do you mean?" 0

"Ah, Jia Ren is dead. He was killed by a steel rebar that fell from above, piercing his throat." 0

"Impossible! Just a little while ago, he was still alive! How could he suddenly be dead?" 0

Jiang Liu couldn't believe Wang Chao's words and wanted to go see the scene for himself. However, before he could move, Wang Chao grabbed him. 0

"No need to go; it's true." Wang Chao didn't know what else to say at that moment and remained silent for a while before adding, "We were already prepared for this situation, weren't we?" 0

"Yes, we were prepared for this. When we found Jia Ren, we already knew he might die because of us." 0

Seeing Jiang Liu calm down, Wang Chao hesitantly said, "This isn't your fault; we were just trying to survive." 0

As they stood there in silence, time seemed to stretch on. 0

After a long while, Jiang Liu took a step toward the crime scene again. Wang Chao asked in confusion, "What are you going to do?" 0

"Well, he once helped us. I want to see him." With that, Jiang Liu continued walking toward the site. 0

Wang Chao watched Jiang Liu's back and noticed that this version of Jiang Liu was different from the one he had always known. But upon closer inspection, he found nothing amiss; it seemed like it was just his imagination. 0

The crowd that had originally gathered to watch had long been dispersed by the arrival of the police. A dozen officers set up a cordon and signaled for people to step back. As Jiang Liu approached the barrier, a police officer stopped him. 0

"Hello, sir. Entry is prohibited right now; please cooperate." 0

"Hello, Officer, I might know the person inside," Jiang Liu explained. 0

Upon hearing this, the officer furrowed his brow slightly and asked, "Do you know the deceased inside?" 0

"Yes, Officer. I just took a look, and the person who died inside is someone we know." 0

At that moment, Wang Chao's voice came from behind. 0

"I see. Then you can go in, but please don't take any photos." 0

The officer was somewhat skeptical of Jiang Liu and Wang Chao's words, but seeing their expressions didn't seem to indicate they were lying, he had no choice but to believe them, though he forbade them from taking pictures. 0

After Jiang Liu agreed to the officer's request, he led the two toward the crime scene. As they approached, Jiang Liu was the first to spot a familiar figure—someone who had been happily chatting with them just this morning. Little did they expect that in just a few short minutes apart, one of them would be gone forever. 0

At that moment, Jiang Liu realized that Jia Ren's death was exceptionally strange. His neck was tilted back as if he were looking up at something, his mouth wide open, and lodged in it was a brown steel rod about the thickness of a thumb. 0

Jia Ren's face was filled with terror, as if he had witnessed something horrifying before his death. What struck Jiang Liu as even more peculiar was that Jia Ren's body was still standing. Normally, when a person dies, their body should collapse to the ground; yet here it stood upright. 0

Seeing such an unusual manner of death made Jiang Liu feel as though Jia Ren's demise was hinting at something or perhaps warning the two of them through this bizarre circumstance. 0
