Horror Chapter
On the way back to the classroom, Wang Chao couldn't help himself and pulled out his phone to try dialing the number left in the file.
“Beep, beep, beep.”
After a while with no one answering, the two exchanged glances. Just as Wang Chao was about to hang up, someone suddenly picked up on the other end. A male voice came through the phone.
“Hello? Who is this?”
Wang Chao eagerly replied, “Hello, is this Jia Ren, Mr. Jia?”
There was silence for a few seconds before the voice responded again, “Yes, that's me. Who are you?”
“Hello, we are—”
Before Wang Chao could finish his sentence, Jiang Liu abruptly covered his mouth. Unable to speak due to Jiang Liu's grip, Wang Chao could only express his confusion through his eyes. Jiang Liu made a shushing gesture and whispered, “What were you thinking? Were you about to reveal that we're students from Classroom 000?”
“Mmm mmm mmm?”
Wang Chao's mouth was tightly covered by Jiang Liu, making it impossible for him to communicate. However, Jiang Liu ignored him and continued, “What if he finds out we're from Classroom 000 and decides not to get involved with us? Have you forgotten about the old man's death?”
The old man's death weighed heavily on Wang Chao's mind. Unlike them, who were entangled in the mysteries of Classroom 000, the old man could have lived out his days peacefully. It was only because Jiang Liu and Wang Chao sought him out for answers regarding the supernatural events that he became a target for the ghost, leading to his tragic demise.
In another sense, the old man's death was a direct consequence of their actions, dragging him into the curse of Classroom 000.
Thinking of this made Wang Chao quiet down, his mood visibly dampened. Jiang Liu continued softly, “If he remembers what happened in Classroom 000, do you really think he would want to stay in contact with us once he realizes we’re students from there?”
After hearing Jiang Liu's words, Wang Chao thought they made a lot of sense. After all, for an ordinary person, this was something they would rather not remember. Having barely escaped from that cursed classroom, the last thing anyone would want is to find themselves back in it. The most likely reaction would be to hang up the phone immediately, cutting off any chance of being dragged back into the curse. However, doing so would sever their only lead, which was the last thing they wanted.
Seeing Wang Chao calm down, Jiang Liu continued, "Let me handle this next part; you just listen."
At that moment, the voice on the phone had grown somewhat impatient. Worried about the call being disconnected, Wang Chao handed the phone over to Jiang Liu.
"Hello, sir. There was a little incident earlier, so I'm taking over this conversation. I hope you don't mind," Jiang Liu said in a very polite tone.
"Oh, it's fine. I just wanted to ask who you are and how you know my name."
"Well, we are students from H University. Our school is currently preparing for an event where we want to film some alumni from our university, which is why we reached out to you. As for how we got your contact information, we found it in the school's records."
"Oh, I see. The thing is, I don't have time right now and might not be able to come to the school, so I'm sorry."
"No, no, Mr. Jia, you've misunderstood," Jiang Liu quickly interrupted the voice on the other end. "The school anticipated this situation. Considering that some alumni might not be able to participate due to work or other reasons that could hinder the documentary's progress, several teams were formed to conduct interviews in person without requiring you to come to campus."
"Wow, that's quite considerate of the school," the voice on the phone joked. "Well then, since I live not far from the school, I'll help you out."
Upon hearing that the person on the other end agreed quickly, Wang Chao gave Jiang Liu a thumbs-up in admiration.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Jia! Could you please let us know your current address so we can arrange for an interview?"
"There's no need for a visit," the voice on the other end declined Jiang Liu's suggestion. "How about this: I'll take a day off from work tomorrow and we can meet at a café for the interview instead?"
Not getting an address left Jiang Liu feeling a bit disappointed, but regardless of that setback, their goal had been achieved, and his mood remained exceptionally cheerful.
"Sure, Mr. Jia, you pick a place, and I'll bring my friend to wait for you tomorrow."
"Let me think. Let's meet at the Noble Café tomorrow. You know that place, right?"
Noble Café? Jiang Liu, not being a local, felt puzzled upon hearing the name. Wang Chao, noticing Jiang Liu's confused expression, quickly nodded to indicate he knew where the café was.
"Yes, we know it. What time, Mr. Jia?"
"How about nine in the morning?"
"Sounds good, Mr. Jia. We won't disturb your work any longer. See you tomorrow."
"Alright, then. I have to get back to work."
"Okay, goodbye, Mr. Jia."
After hanging up the phone, Wang Chao looked at Jiang Liu with surprise. "I didn't see that coming!"
"What do you mean?" Jiang Liu asked.
"I didn't expect someone who looks so harmless could get flustered like that without changing expression."
"Heh, thanks for the compliment."
After handing the phone back to Wang Chao, Jiang Liu decided to ignore his chatty nature. Wang Chao continued to ask, "What should we do tomorrow? Should we buy a camera to make us look more professional?"
"Hey, Jiang Liu, what do you think we should do tomorrow?"
Unable to tolerate Wang Chao's incessant questioning, Jiang Liu finally stopped. "First of all, we don't need to buy a camera. Secondly, let's just pretend we're going for an interview and avoid directly asking about Classroom 000."
"Why not? And how are we supposed to conduct an interview without a camera?"
"Don't you have your phone? You can just record everything with it and act like we're doing an interview."
"Oh right, we have our phones." Wang Chao suddenly realized, then asked, "So how are we going to ask Teacher Mei for leave?"
Upon hearing this question, Jiang Liu paused and looked at him. "Right, we need to come up with an excuse for both of us to take leave tomorrow."
"That's why I'm worried. What excuse can we use that will convince Teacher Mei?" Wang Chao scratched his head in frustration.
"I actually have a suggestion," Jiang Liu said, his gaze on Wang Chao becoming somewhat peculiar.
"What suggestion?"
"You'll find out soon enough."
"Hey, wait! Don't leave me behind!"
