Horror Chapter
As Jiang Liu carefully opened the files he had collected, Wang Chao's voice came from the bookshelf behind him.
"Hey, Jiang Liu, come here, you won't believe what I found."
"What did you find? Is it the information about Classroom 000?" Jiang Liu was puzzled by Wang Chao's excitement over something that seemed trivial.
"No, it's the graduation records of past students from H University."
"What good is that?"
Jiang Liu couldn't understand why Wang Chao was so thrilled; it was just old student records, not the information about Classroom 000.
Despite his thoughts, Jiang Liu quickened his pace to join Wang Chao. He saw Wang Chao holding a thick stack of documents and, without hesitation, handed half of them over to him.
"Are you stupid? Since Classroom 000 belongs to H University, as long as someone graduated alive from there, the school's student records must have their information. If we find that record, we'll know who survived from Classroom 000, and everything else will be much simpler."
Hearing Wang Chao's words, Jiang Liu's eyes lit up. Right! They didn't need to find answers about Classroom 000; they just needed to discover who had survived from there in previous years. Then they could ask those survivors what had really happened in Classroom 000.
Realizing this, Jiang Liu felt like slapping himself. He had been so anxious that he overlooked such a simple solution, focusing solely on uncovering the rumors surrounding Classroom 000.
Wang Chao, unaware of Jiang Liu's inner turmoil during this brief moment, continued after handing over the documents. "I also found that each student's file includes their class and contact information. As long as we aren't too unlucky, we should be able to find a few."
After that, the two fell silent and began searching diligently. As they searched, Jiang Liu's mind began to wander. Looking around at the pitch-black surroundings, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of confusion.
What puzzled him was how smoothly everything was going; since they left the classroom and entered the archive room, nothing strange had happened at all. This sudden calmness felt eerie—after all, in previous encounters, something bizarre would typically occur within moments. The silence made Jiang Liu feel uneasy.
Noticing Jiang Liu had stopped moving, Wang Chao looked over and asked, "What's wrong? Why did you stop?"
"Nothing. I just feel like everything is going too smoothly," Jiang Liu replied.
"Smoothly? Have you seen how many people have died in recent days?" Wang Chao chuckled bitterly. "If things were any smoother, you'd be worried if something didn't go wrong."
Hearing Wang Chao's remark made Jiang Liu smile wryly as he shook his head. "I guess I was overthinking it. Let's keep going."
Just as the two of them refocused their energy on searching for the files, a sudden sound of a door slamming echoed through the room. They turned around to find that the door to the archive room had closed, and they had no idea when it had happened.
They exchanged glances, and Wang Chao cursed, "What a jinx! Just when we thought we were safe."
Jiang Liu's expression was also one of surprise, questioning whether he truly was the jinx.
With the door to the archive room now shut, the only beam of sunlight streaming in from outside was also blocked. Both felt an oppressive atmosphere surrounding them, and there was an unsettling chill in the air, as if someone had entered the room when the door closed and was now lurking in the shadows, watching them.
Because of this eerie sensation, they instinctively shone their flashlights around. The archive room wasn't large, and they quickly scanned the area. However, after their inspection, everything appeared unchanged from before.
"What should we do now?" Wang Chao asked.
Jiang Liu thought for a moment. "You keep searching for information while I keep an eye on our surroundings. We can't give up now that we've come this far. If we leave now, I fear we might not get another chance like this."
Wang Chao understood that they couldn't afford to delay in this situation. He nodded and continued to sift through the documents.
Jiang Liu stood beside him, occasionally using his phone's light to illuminate the area. Suddenly, when the beam swept across a corner, a shadow flickered at the edge of Jiang Liu's vision. He convinced himself it was just his imagination or an illusion; yet, he could clearly see that the shadow was real and quietly standing not far from him in the corner.
A cold sweat drenched Jiang Liu's back as he remained frozen, using his peripheral vision to keep an eye on the shadow in the corner. They stayed in this tense silence until Wang Chao suddenly shouted.
"I found it! I found it!"
Startled by Wang Chao's voice, Jiang Liu turned his gaze back to the corner only to find that the shadow had vanished.
"Come quick! You were right; it turns out some people from previous years actually graduated from that classroom!" Wang Chao continued to excitedly exclaim, completely oblivious to Jiang Liu's pale face. Eager to see what he had found, Wang Chao hurriedly opened the file bag but was stopped by Jiang Liu.
"Wait! Don’t rush into it; we might be in trouble."
At first, Wang Chao didn't grasp what Jiang Liu meant. But upon seeing Jiang Liu's ashen complexion, a sense of dread washed over him. He quickly shone his flashlight around while asking, "What did you see?"
"Over there," Jiang Liu said as he directed the flashlight toward where he had seen the shadow moments ago. "But when you shouted, it disappeared."
Hearing this, Wang Chao instinctively looked toward the corner Jiang Liu indicated but saw nothing resembling what Jiang Liu described. Gripping the file tightly in his hand, he asked anxiously, "What should we do now?"
"What else can we do? Of course, we have to find a way to escape."
Wang Chao was momentarily stunned and asked a pointless question. He turned to look at the closed door. "The door is locked. How can we escape?"
"Let's treat this like a dead horse being used as a live one. First, let's see if we can open the door. If we can't, then we'll die together here."
When Jiang Liu said this, Wang Chao could sense a hint of sorrow in his words, yet there was no fear of death. Perhaps it was because they were not directly facing the threat of death that they couldn't feel it.
The two leaned against each other and slowly made their way toward the iron door. The short distance of just a few meters took them over ten minutes to traverse. With each step, their hearts raced, fearing that a terrifying ghost might suddenly leap out from some corner.
Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened until they reached the iron door. Wang Chao placed his hand on the doorknob, his voice trembling slightly.
"I’m going to open it."
"Go ahead. Whether we live or die depends on your luck now."
Wang Chao understood that Jiang Liu's banter at this moment was meant to relieve his own pressure. Taking a deep breath, he pulled the door hard.
The door opened.
