Horror Chapter
Jiang Liu glanced around, ensuring no one was paying attention to them, before quietly asking Wang Chao, "Do you think what that classmate said earlier was true?"
"I don't know," Wang Chao replied, shaking his head in uncertainty.
"Don't know?"
"If I hadn't experienced any supernatural events, I might have believed what was said. But I've gone through many such incidents and know very well what ghosts are like. So, I'm skeptical about what was said. However, I also realize that this supernatural event is somewhat different from the past ones, so I'm not entirely sure now," Wang Chao explained.
"That's a valid point," Jiang Liu pondered. "Now that the old man is dead and the clues are cut off, it seems we need to go to the resource room to search for more leads."
"What about the old man?" Wang Chao asked.
Jiang Liu thought for a moment. "We can take a leave during class and then check if he left behind any clues."
"That works," Wang Chao agreed with Jiang Liu's plan, then pointed at the other students standing in the corridor. "What about them?"
Wang Chao's words trailed off, but Jiang Liu understood his concern. After thinking for a while, he suggested, "How about we leave one person in the classroom to observe?"
"Who stays?" Wang Chao inquired.
Both of them were aware that there were clear distinctions between their two options.
Although Jiang Liu's earlier conclusion seemed highly plausible, when it came time to act, they hesitated. Checking the scene at the old man's place felt risky; just the thought of the disturbing imagery was enough to make them want to retreat. On the other hand, leaving someone in the classroom to observe their classmates posed almost no danger at all—if there was any risk, it was merely speculation without certainty.
After a long silence between them, Jiang Liu finally spoke up first: "You stay here; I'll go to the old man's place."
This decision was made by Jiang Liu after considering their circumstances and determining it was the best course of action for both of them while maximizing their strengths.
Jiang Liu had a better memory than Wang Chao, so he could observe the scene at the old man's place and relay detailed information back to Wang Chao. Additionally, since this suggestion originated from Jiang Liu, it made sense for him to be the one to go.
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao looked at Jiang Liu with a strange expression but ultimately kept his thoughts to himself and simply said, "Be careful."
As soon as the two had made their decision, Teacher Mei arrived with a textbook in hand.
Seeing that the hallway was filled with students, she asked in confusion, "Why is everyone standing outside? Why aren't you going into the classroom?"
No sooner had she spoken than several girls rushed to explain the situation to Teacher Mei. After listening to the entire account, her expression changed momentarily before turning stern as she addressed the students, "What are you all doing? Hurry up and get into the classroom to prepare for class!"
Under Teacher Mei's strict demand, the students had no choice but to return to their seats one by one. Before class began, Teacher Mei looked at the students in front of her and said, "I am saddened by what happened yesterday, but what saddens me even more is that some people are using these events to draw attention! I don't want to say much more; I hope that from now on, no one will discuss these matters or use them to attract others' attention. Do you all understand?"
The students remained silent, not a single word spoken. At this moment, Jiang Liu was sitting a few rows back in the classroom and could not see the expressions of others.
"Since no one is speaking up, I will take this as agreement from everyone. If I hear about this kind of thing again, don't blame me for being harsh!" Teacher Mei surveyed the students once more. "Alright, that's enough talk; let's start class."
After about half a lesson had passed, Jiang Liu estimated that it was time and raised his hand to indicate he had something to say.
Teacher Mei recognized him as the student who had asked her a question last time and paused for a moment before quickly regaining her composure. "What is it, student?"
"Teacher, I need to go to the restroom."
Hearing that Jiang Liu was not asking about anything else but just needed to use the restroom eased her mind. She nodded in agreement and turned back to continue her lesson.
As he stepped out of the classroom, Jiang Liu glanced back at Wang Chao and gave him a signal. Wang Chao nodded in understanding.
Once outside, Jiang Liu dashed straight towards the old man's wooden cabin, running at full speed. There was no time to waste; there were still over twenty minutes until class ended, and once it did, Jiang Liu wasn't sure if being alone in the old man's cabin would lead to any unexpected incidents.
Upon reaching the cabin, Jiang Liu stood in front of it and took a deep breath before pushing the door open.
He had prepared himself for another gruesome sight, but to his surprise, when he opened the door, there was nothing inside!
The old man's corpse, the blood splattered on the walls, and the scattered remains on the floor—everything was gone!
The cabin was unusually clean as if someone had meticulously tidied it up. Every corner looked exactly like what Jiang Liu had observed last night.
Jiang Liu stared at the suddenly clean wooden cabin, momentarily lost in thought. When he regained his senses, he stepped inside, carefully observing everything within.
The interior was simple; aside from a bed and a rocking chair, there was only a table typically used by an elderly person. On the table were several teacups, likely for the old man's tea. Jiang Liu's gaze shifted to the rocking chair placed in the center of the room, which stood quietly.
However, upon seeing the rocking chair, an unsettling feeling washed over Jiang Liu, causing goosebumps to rise on his skin and cold sweat to trickle down his back. It felt as if someone were sitting in that rocking chair, silently watching him enter the cabin.
There was nothing on the table or in the rocking chair, so Jiang Liu had no choice but to hope for something on the bed that he hadn't yet checked.
Since the bed used by the elderly man was located at the back of the cabin, light couldn't reach it. Jiang Liu moved deeper into the cabin, but as he approached the bed, he noticed something odd about it.
He wasn't sure if it was common for elderly people to keep their beds exceptionally clean, but this one was tidy and immaculate.
The bed was dressed with plain white sheets and a quilt. The quilt was neatly folded into a rectangular shape on top of the mattress, and there were impressions on it as if someone had recently lain there.
The sight of the sheets made Jiang Liu feel uncomfortable, reminiscent of how bodies are covered in movies.
The indentations also unsettled him, though he couldn't pinpoint why.
Just as Jiang Liu was inspecting further, a sudden "bang" echoed from behind him!
