Horror Chapter
The class time arrived quickly. When the two returned to the classroom, they found several classmates who had come early standing in the corridor outside, and no one had entered the classroom.
Jiang Liu initially thought that the classroom door was closed, which was why everyone was standing outside. However, as he approached, he realized that the iron door to the classroom was wide open. This left him puzzled.
The door was clearly open, so why wasn’t anyone going inside?
He stopped a nearby male classmate and asked, "Hey, what’s going on? Why isn’t anyone entering the classroom? Everyone is just standing in the hallway."
The boy Jiang Liu grabbed recognized him as a familiar face from their class. After a moment of thought, he replied, "Didn’t you see the messages in the group chat last night?"
Jiang Liu thought for a moment; he had spent a long time with Wang Chao at the old man's place and returned home late, going straight to bed without checking the class group chat. He could only shake his head to indicate that he hadn’t seen it.
"That explains it. Last night someone mentioned in the group that the girl who jumped off the building has turned into a ghost and returned to the classroom!"
Jiang Liu felt a chill run down his spine upon hearing this. Before he could ask further, Wang Chao beside him anxiously interjected, "Turned into a ghost? Are you serious?"
"I wish it were a joke," the boy replied, his voice trembling with fear. "Last night, one of our classmates said she saw the shadow of that Jumping Girl quietly sitting at her old desk when she passed by the classroom. That’s why everyone is too scared to go in now."
"Could it be some classmate's prank?" Jiang Liu questioned skeptically. "Just because someone saw a shadow doesn’t mean it’s true. What if they misinterpreted it? Or it’s just a prank?"
"We thought so at first too, but this morning something strange happened in the dorm where that Jumping Girl lived." The boy glanced into the classroom and lowered his voice as if afraid of being overheard. "My girlfriend lives in the same dorm as that Jumping Girl; I heard it from her."
"Which one is your girlfriend? Mind sharing her name?" Wang Chao asked somewhat abruptly.
Upon hearing Wang Chao's question, the male student’s expression changed, and he looked at Wang Chao warily. "What do you want? Why do you need to know who my girlfriend is?"
Jiang Liu quickly interjected to explain, "It's nothing. We're all classmates, and it caught us off guard when we heard that. So, what happened last night in the dorm where you and your girlfriend stay?"
Seeing that Jiang Liu was trying to smooth things over, the male student relaxed a bit and continued, "Last night around midnight, my girlfriend suddenly texted me. She heard someone knocking on their dorm door. At first, she thought it was just some other classmates returning late. Just as she was about to ask who it was, she noticed that the other girls in the dorm were all looking at her with terrified expressions. She didn’t understand what was happening at first, but later, when she realized it, she found out that everyone in their dorm was asleep and no one had gone out.
She felt a chill run down her spine and asked the other girls in the dorm, 'What’s wrong? Why aren’t you opening the door?'
The other girls didn’t say anything but pointed fearfully at the dorm door. It was then that my girlfriend noticed how all of them were staring at the door with fear in their eyes. She still didn’t grasp what was going on and asked again, 'What’s happening?'
Eventually, one girl seemed worried that my girlfriend's voice might be too loud and attract whatever was outside, so she whispered to my girlfriend, 'Someone is knocking on the door.'
My girlfriend found this strange; after all, someone was just knocking on the door. Why did everyone look like they had seen a ghost? Then it hit her— it was already one or two in the morning. How could anyone be coming back now? And who would be knocking on the door? Besides, by this time, the main entrance of the dormitory would have been locked; no one could get in. With that thought, my girlfriend realized something was off.
The girls in the dorm were all looking fearfully at the door, terrified that someone might burst in at any moment. My girlfriend was scared too, but she listened carefully to the knocking coming from outside.
When she listened closely, she sensed something was wrong.
Normally, when someone knocks on a door, it's usually hurried and frequent. If no one answers, they would shout or knock harder. But the knocking they heard was very light and rhythmic—about every two seconds there would be a knock—almost as if a ghost outside was knocking seriously on the door.
Thinking about this made my girlfriend nearly cry; she quickly sent me a text instead of calling because she was afraid that whatever was outside might hear her."
The male classmate was meticulous and serious, making Jiang Liu almost believe he was recounting his own experience.
Standing nearby, Wang Chao remarked, "Listening to you, it feels like you've been through this yourself."
Just as Jiang Liu was about to explain, worried that the male classmate might take offense, the boy chuckled and said, "This is all from my girlfriend last night. I hardly slept in the second half of the night because I was afraid she would be scared, so I kept her company and that's why I know all this so clearly."
"Then how come so many people know about it today?" Jiang Liu asked, looking at all the classmates standing outside the door. "If your girlfriend was talking to you, who were those people in the group?"
"Oh, the group is another girl from our class. She shares a dorm with the girl who jumped last night," the boy explained.
"I see. So what happened afterward?"
"After that, I just kept chatting with my girlfriend. I heard knocking on their dorm room door continuously, but no one outside spoke or opened it. Eventually, a few of them couldn't stay awake and fell asleep. By the time they woke up, the knocking had stopped. My girlfriend even told me she wants to stay somewhere else; she doesn't dare stay in the dorm anymore, so she asked me to keep her company outside for a few days."
Hearing this, Jiang Liu finally understood why this male classmate seemed scared when he heard about the incident but spoke with a tone of joy and even chuckled a couple of times. It truly was a case of misfortune turning into fortune.
After clarifying everything, Jiang Liu thanked the boy and pulled Wang Chao into a secluded corner where no one was around.
