Horror Chapter
Hearing the sudden commotion in the classroom, Jiang Liu looked up to see what was happening.
As soon as he raised his head, a figure with long black hair swept past his vision. A faint, youthful scent typical of young women rushed toward him, and then, to Jiang Liu's astonishment, he saw a silhouette leap out of the classroom window.
"Ah! Someone jumped!"
The scream echoed in Classroom 000, and his stunned mind began to process the situation. Just as he stood up from his seat, he saw Wang Chao rush out of the classroom. Without thinking twice, he hurried after him, racing down the stairs.
When he reached the back of the teaching building, a young body lay on the concrete ground, blood flowing from it and slowly spreading across the gray surface, creating a bizarre scene.
Wang Chao and Jiang Liu were the first to burst out of the classroom, so when they saw the body, no other students had yet come down. They exchanged a glance and quickly ran over.
As they got a clearer view of the corpse, Jiang Liu felt his stomach churn violently, nausea rising in his throat.
Since Classroom 000 was on the fifth floor of the teaching building, a body that fell from such a height would not look good. The face was already a bloody mess from the fall, and faintly, they could see some white liquid oozing from the hair—clearly indicating that there was no chance of survival.
Jiang Liu couldn't shake off the feeling that the corpse's eyes were staring at him with malice, and its mouth seemed to curl into a mocking smile.
Footsteps began to echo behind them as other students arrived at the scene. Upon witnessing such a horrifying sight, they all crouched by the side of the path and began to vomit. Teacher Mei appeared in the hallway at that moment, followed by several middle-aged men who seemed to be school leaders.
One bespectacled man frowned upon seeing so many students gathered around the body and shouted, "What are you all doing? Get away from here!"
Seeing the school leaders arrive, the students quickly scattered.
Wang Chao pulled Jiang Liu aside to a quieter spot and said, "Now do you believe me?"
Jiang Liu nodded with a pale face and asked, "I believe you. But why did she jump? What happened?"
"I don't know either." Wang Chao glanced at the school leaders conversing nearby. "All I saw was her suddenly standing up from her seat and rushing toward the window. It all happened too fast; there was no time to react!"
Jiang Liu looked back toward the body and noticed that Teacher Mei and the school leaders had grim expressions. He turned to Wang Chao and said, "Looking at their faces, they probably know something."
"However, I don't think those leaders will come with us," Wang Chao continued.
Before Jiang Liu could respond, the leaders noticed the students still gathered around and immediately shouted, "What are you all looking at? Hurry up and get to class!"
The leaders were angry, and the students who had been clustered together quickly dispersed, rushing back to their classrooms. Wang Chao also pulled Jiang Liu along to their classroom. Since Teacher Mei was downstairs talking with several members of the School Leadership, there was no class that period, and the students in Classroom 000 gathered together to discuss.
Wang Chao and Jiang Liu sat in a corner of the classroom, speaking quietly.
"I suspect that this recent incident of someone jumping off might be a hint for us," Wang Chao said.
"I agree. Starting from that student who disappeared from our memory, it seems like someone vanishes every time. Now three have already gone missing, and it’s likely that more will happen soon," Jiang Liu speculated based on previous clues. "But there’s one important thing we still don’t understand!"
"You mean the details of this supernatural incident?"
"Yes. If we don’t know the details of this mission, it’s like walking blindfolded; we can only feel our way around. It’s very dangerous."
"Do you have any good ideas?" Wang Chao asked.
Jiang Liu recalled Teacher Mei's expression from yesterday and the expressions of the leaders today, guessing, "I think the School Leadership might know something, but judging by their demeanor, they probably won’t tell us. So we can only rely on ourselves to find out."
"What do you mean?"
"Since the School Leadership and Teacher Mei know about this matter, it’s certain that similar incidents have happened at the school before. If we want to figure out what’s going on, we can only start by looking into others' experiences."
"The archives!"
"The Gatekeeper!"
Jiang Liu and Wang Chao said simultaneously.
"Do you know where the archives are?" Jiang Liu asked.
"I don’t know, but I think if similar incidents have occurred in the past, there must be records in the school archives."
"However, you don't know where the data room is?" Jiang Liu analyzed. "Even if you knew where it was, you wouldn't have the key to get in."
"That's true. It seems we'll have to start with your doormen, Old Man. But can you be sure they know anything about this?" Wang Chao asked.
"That's why we need to ask them. If no one knows anything, we'll figure out another way to approach the data room," Jiang Liu replied.
"Sounds good."
Just as the two were finalizing their plan, the sound of police sirens echoed from downstairs in the teaching building. Jiang Liu rushed to the window to look down and saw Teacher Mei and several members of the School Leadership talking to the police. However, due to the height of the floor, he couldn't hear what they were discussing.
After more than ten minutes, the police surprisingly drove away. Jiang Liu found it hard to believe that such a significant incident had occurred, yet the police left without even asking any questions.
At that moment, Wang Chao noticed Jiang Liu's astonished expression and said to him, "This is what I meant by my earlier point. Everything that happens in our classroom is quickly forgotten by outsiders, almost like how people who die in supernatural events are erased from others' memories."
Jiang Liu pondered over Wang Chao's words while watching the scene below. Shortly after the police car left, Teacher Mei returned to the classroom. She briefly spoke to the students and then dismissed them for class. At the podium, Teacher Mei looked troubled as she addressed her students: "I apologize for what just happened and feel deeply saddened by it. The school has already arranged everything necessary; there’s nothing more for us to worry about. I hope everyone can continue with their studies. Class is dismissed now."
With that, Teacher Mei left the classroom, presumably to handle follow-up matters.
Jiang Liu and Wang Chao exchanged glances; they had been prepared for this situation. With class ending early today, they now had ample time to investigate everything related to this classroom.
