Horror Chapter
In the early morning, Jiang Liu sat in the classroom as usual, waiting for Teacher Mei to start the lesson. While he waited, he couldn't help but recall the scene from yesterday when he encountered Xu Ya. The chilling sensation he felt then reminded him of the danger he had sensed on the second floor of Wildwood Hotel, filling him with dread.
As Jiang Liu was lost in thought, class time arrived. Teacher Mei greeted everyone as she always did and began taking attendance.
“Xu Ya!”
Silence filled the room.
“Xu Ya? Is Xu Ya not here?”
Noticing a student was absent, Teacher Mei's expression darkened. She asked the other students in the class, “Does anyone know why Xu Ya is missing?”
The classroom fell silent; no one answered. Seeing this, Teacher Mei took out her phone and stepped out of the classroom to make a call. After a while, she returned with the same troubled expression.
“Alright, class, let's begin.”
Teacher Mei didn’t dwell on it and continued with the lesson. The other students who either didn’t know Xu Ya or had only seen her a few times shifted their focus back to class.
When Teacher Mei called out Xu Ya’s name, Jiang Liu had already taken note of it. After scanning the faces of everyone in the classroom, he realized that the missing student named Xu Ya was indeed the girl who had made him feel so uncomfortable yesterday.
[What’s going on? Why isn’t that student named Xu Ya here today? And Teacher Mei’s reaction when she realized someone was absent seemed off; she must know something. But who did she call? And why did she start teaching us right after returning?]
Jiang Liu wanted to ask Teacher Mei immediately about Xu Ya's absence, but reason told him it was class time, and he couldn’t interrupt her.
Finally, when class ended, Jiang Liu didn’t rush to find Teacher Mei right away. He waited until she packed her books and left the classroom before stepping into the hallway to intercept her.
“What’s wrong, student? I believe your name is Jiang Liu, right?”
Teacher Mei looked at Jiang Liu blocking her path with a puzzled expression.
“Yes, Teacher Mei,” Jiang Liu nodded.
"Jiang Liu, is there something you need to discuss with the teacher?"
"Actually, Teacher Mei, I wanted to ask where Xu Ya is. Why didn't she come today?"
Upon hearing Jiang Liu's question, Teacher Mei's previously smiling face suddenly stiffened, and she asked in a tense tone, "Why do you want to know, Jiang Liu?"
【As expected, Teacher Mei must know something!】
"It's nothing. I just thought I should check on my classmate!"
"That's a good attitude, Jiang Liu. I'm glad our classmates care about each other. However, there are some things that I'm not quite clear about either, so I can't tell you," Teacher Mei gently refused.
"Then who were you on the phone with earlier? Was it Xu Ya?" Jiang Liu pressed on stubbornly.
"That's enough for now; I have other matters to attend to," Teacher Mei clearly did not want to answer Jiang Liu's questions and hurriedly left him behind.
Jiang Liu called out a few times but realized that Teacher Mei seemed to ignore him and hurried away.
【What is going on? Why does Teacher Mei seem so nervous, almost scared!】
Filled with confusion, Jiang Liu found he could not get any answers from Teacher Mei and had no choice but to return to the classroom.
As soon as he got back, Lin Feng stopped him and asked what he had been doing outside.
"Oh, nothing much. Just checking on Xu Ya's situation with Teacher Mei."
"Xu Ya?" Lin Feng frowned slightly. "Isn't that the girl who didn't come today? Sounds like a female name."
"Yeah," Jiang Liu replied, then suddenly seemed to remember something and asked Lin Feng, "Do you have any impression of that girl?"
"I haven't seen her much, but I've heard that name during roll call. How do you know her?" Lin Feng replied.
Lin Feng still remembered Xu Ya, which meant that her disappearance had nothing to do with the supernatural events. But why did she give him such a strange feeling yesterday?
Jiang Liu felt that something was off about all of this! However, the more he thought about it, the more his mind felt like mush. It was as if everything that had happened recently was shrouded in fog—visible yet untouchable.
"Hey, Jiang Liu, why aren't you talking?"
"It's nothing, just thinking about some things."
At that moment, Jiang Liu suddenly realized that since he couldn't find any clues from Teacher Mei, he might as well ask someone else. He remembered that there were two other girls who had left with Xu Ya yesterday; they should know what Xu Ya had been up to.
With that thought in mind, Jiang Liu began searching the classroom for the two girls who had walked out with Xu Ya. Fortunately, Jiang Liu had a strong memory. After scanning the classroom, he spotted the two girls who had left with Xu Ya.
"By the way, Lin Feng, I have something to take care of later. You can head back to the dorm first and remember to bring my textbook back. Thanks!"
With that thought, he made his way toward the two girls, leaving Lin Feng staring blankly at Jiang Liu's retreating figure.
"Hello, classmates!"
Jiang Liu called out to the two girls walking ahead of him. They turned around in confusion upon hearing someone call them from behind.
"Hi, is there something you need?" asked the girl with a ponytail.
"Actually, I remember you both were walking with Xu Ya after class yesterday, right?"
"Yes, that's right." The two girls exchanged glances and nodded.
"Could you spare me a few minutes?"
"Are you looking for Xu Ya?"
Another girl with long black hair quickly understood why Jiang Liu was looking for them after hearing his words.
"Yes, that's right. I saw Xu Ya wasn't at school today, so I wanted to ask what happened to her and why she didn't come," Jiang Liu replied.
"Then you asked the wrong people. We don't live in the same dorm as Xu Ya. After we parted ways yesterday, we haven't seen her again. We only noticed today that Xu Ya wasn't in class," Ponytail Girl said.
"I see," Jiang Liu said, feeling a bit disappointed but not showing it. He continued to ask, "Can you tell me where you parted ways with her yesterday?"
"Wait a moment, let me think," Ponytail Girl pondered.
"We parted ways with Xu Ya because she wanted to go to the library to read for a while, so we separated there," Long-Haired Girl answered.
"And you haven't seen her since then?"
"Right."
"Well, that's all. Thank you."
"No problem, we also want to know why Xu Ya didn't come to class today."
After waving goodbye to the two girls, Jiang Liu left.
