Horror Chapter
Xu Ya followed the two men to a wooden door. The handsome man opened the door and gestured for them to enter. Once Xu Ya stepped inside the room, he closed the door behind her.
As Xu Ya walked into the room, she realized that it was completely empty, like an undecorated shell of a house. While she was surveying her surroundings, the handsome man spoke from behind her.
"Who are you?"
"Ah? Oh, I'm Xu Ya."
Hastily responding to his question, Xu Ya felt a bit flustered.
"How did you get here?" he continued to ask.
"Um?"
Xu Ya was puzzled; she didn't understand why he was asking this question. How did she get here? Did he expect her to say she flew? Xu Ya thought to herself.
Noticing the confusion on Xu Ya's face, the handsome man furrowed his perfectly arched brows, studying her for a few seconds before saying, "You don't know where this place is?"
"Isn't this a library?" Xu Ya asked, still confused.
The handsome man adopted an expression that suggested he had expected this response, and his gaze toward Xu Ya became somewhat strange.
Seeing the look in his eyes, Xu Ya felt an inexplicable sense of dread and tentatively asked, "What's wrong? Is this not a library?"
He shook his head, his tone tinged with sadness as he replied, "This is a library, but it is not a library in reality."
"What do you mean?" Xu Ya couldn't grasp the meaning behind his words.
"When I say 'the literal meaning,'" the handsome guy paused for a moment before asking another question, "Do you believe there are ghosts in this world?"
"I can't hear what you're implying."
"Ah," he sighed and continued, "In our world, there are actually events known as supernatural occurrences, just like those seen in horror films, where the entire event is caused by ghosts."
"How is that possible!"
Xu Ya looked at him in disbelief. She thought this handsome guy must be mentally unstable to believe that ghosts exist in this world! Although she was afraid of ghosts, she did not believe in their existence. To her, ghosts were merely a term used by ancient people to describe the darker aspects of human nature. They existed only in people's imaginations. If you suddenly asked anyone to accept that ghosts were real, who could possibly accept it?
"Nothing is impossible. Just like the place we are in right now, it's where a supernatural event has occurred."
"You must be joking, right?"
"I know this is hard for you to accept, but it’s the truth!" he shook his head.
"I don't believe you. Please move aside; I want to go back and leave this place!"
Xu Ya urged him to step aside. She didn't want to listen to his nonsense any longer; all she wanted was to hurry back to her dorm and lie down on her bed for a good sleep.
The handsome guy didn’t heed Xu Ya's words. He turned his body and looked at her face, shaking his head. "You can't go out yet."
"Why not?"
"The ghost is still in the library."
"Do you really think I would believe your ghost stories?" Xu Ya scoffed.
"We mean you no harm; you should be able to see that."
The girl who had been silent stepped forward and looked at Xu Ya gently. "You should calm down. There are some things that you should be able to sense as well. Letting you go out now would only mean sending you to your death."
Her voice seemed to have a natural ability to comfort, and Xu Ya's previously agitated mood gradually settled as she stood quietly in place.
After a long silence, Xu Ya opened her mouth and spoke. Her voice revealed the turmoil within her, as she struggled to suppress the tremor in her tone.
"What is going on?"
"Just as I mentioned earlier, we are currently in the midst of a supernatural event," the boy paused before continuing. "You heard those footsteps in the library, right? What did you feel?"
"I was really scared, as if something terrifying was walking around in the library."
Just recalling the footsteps she had heard in the library filled Xu Ya with dread.
"That was a ghost!" the boy said. "To be precise, it’s a ghost from a supernatural event. They have no mercy, no emotions, and even when they kill, there is not a hint of joy. Their existence seems solely for the purpose of tormenting humans."
"That’s impossible."
Xu Ya's expression was grim, filled with disbelief and a hint of terror.
"Why is it impossible?" the boy looked at Xu Ya and asked. "Do you really think that the world you perceive every day is the true face of reality?"
Xu Ya opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words.
"We have no reason to lie to you; everything about Chu Ping is real," the girl interjected.
"Although I know what I'm about to say may be hard for you to accept, since you've entered this supernatural event, it means that you will be one of us from now on. So I think it's better to tell you some things now."
"I don't want to listen. I want to go back. I refuse to stay here and indulge in your nonsense! Listening to your crazy talk!"
Xu Ya stepped forward, intending to pull Chu Ping away from the door. She had assumed that either Chu Ping or the girl would hold onto her, but to her surprise, Chu Ping was easily pushed aside by Xu Ya.
Chu Ping, now pushed to the side, calmly said, "Neither Lin Yun nor I will stop you. Whether you leave or stay is entirely up to you. But I must remind you, there is a ghost patrolling outside. If it finds you, your only fate is death."
Xu Ya glanced at Lin Yun and noticed that both of them remained still, quietly waiting for her to make a choice.
Looking at her hand resting on the doorknob, Xu Ya realized she could simply turn it and leave the room. Yet deep inside, she felt a warning not to leave, urging her to trust Chu Ping and Lin Yun.
After struggling at the door for a moment, Xu Ya ultimately chose to follow her intuition and believe in Chu Ping and the others. The instant her palm left the doorknob, her legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the floor.
"I'm glad you made the right choice," Chu Ping said, looking at Xu Ya sitting on the ground.
"What on earth is going on?" Xu Ya asked, feeling overwhelmed.
"I will tell you everything I know."
Chu Ping walked up to Xu Ya and extended her hand. Xu Ya looked up at Chu Ping's outstretched hand and hesitated for a moment before reaching out.
