Horror Chapter
Xu Ya found it strange that the sound she had heard earlier, the sound of crying, was coming from this very spot. Logically, no matter how fast the girl had run, it was impossible for her to reach a place three bookshelves away in such a short time without making a sound.
In the library, it was so quiet that even the faintest footsteps could be heard clearly; there was no way someone could walk without making any noise.
With this thought in mind, Xu Ya felt that something was off. After a moment's hesitation, she spoke again, but this time her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Is anyone there? If you don't answer, I'm leaving."
Her voice echoed in the stillness of the library. After waiting for a few seconds without receiving a response, Xu Ya decided to ignore it and hurriedly made her way out.
As she passed another bookshelf, a figure suddenly appeared in front of her. Startled, she stumbled back a few steps and opened her mouth to scream, but before she could make a sound, someone covered her mouth and pulled her into the corner behind the shelves!
This is it!
Images of tragic cases she had seen on television flashed through Xu Ya's mind. She felt that she might very well become one of those unfortunate protagonists. Regret washed over her; if only she hadn’t been so nosy and had simply left when she first heard the crying, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened.
Despairing, she closed her eyes and braced herself for whatever was to come. But after what felt like an eternity, nothing happened. Her mouth remained covered, and her body was held firmly in place.
Minutes passed, and the person holding her showed no signs of moving.
The sound of rapid breathing filled Xu Ya's ears, sending shivers down her spine. She swore she wasn’t imagining things; it was just a woman’s instinct.
Gradually, the breathing behind her calmed down until it faded away completely. Just as Xu Ya was about to struggle against her captor, a male voice whispered softly in her ear.
"Don't move! Don't make a sound!"
As a normal person, it was impossible for Xu Ya to obey the voice behind her in such a situation. She immediately began to struggle, but the man behind her seemed to have anticipated her actions. As soon as she twisted her body, he tightened his grip, suppressing her movements.
Xu Ya felt as if the man's arms around her were like iron bands, unyielding and firm. The constriction made her arms ache painfully.
Just when she thought she might be choked to death by the man behind her, the pressure on her arms ceased. Although the grip had loosened, she dared not move. During their earlier struggle, she realized that with her strength, resistance was futile. Instead of fighting against it, she decided to calm down and think about how to navigate this dangerous situation.
While Xu Ya and the man behind her remained silent, a loud crash suddenly echoed from a distance to their left.
The sound startled Xu Ya so much that she nearly screamed. Fortunately, the man behind her had not released his hand covering her mouth when she stopped struggling; otherwise, that sudden noise might have caused her to cry out.
After the initial shock, Xu Ya regained her composure. For some reason, after hearing that loud noise, an indescribable fear crept into her heart. She didn't understand why she felt this way, but she sensed that if she made a sound, something terrifying would happen!
Once the loud noise faded away, silence enveloped the library once more.
Xu Ya thought the danger had passed and attempted to move slightly. However, she was surprised to find that the man behind her had not let go; instead, he whispered softly—so softly that Xu Ya almost thought it was just her imagination.
"Hold your breath."
As soon as he finished speaking, Xu Ya could no longer hear his breathing. She paused for a moment before quickly holding her own breath. She didn't know why she felt compelled to obey him, but there was no malice in his voice; instead, it conveyed a sense of safety.
Being someone who was sensitive to sounds, when she heard the man's voice behind her, she felt that he wasn't a bad person. Coupled with the sudden loud crash earlier, it led her to choose to trust him.
"Pat pat."
Suddenly, a series of footsteps echoed through the library, the sound so piercing that it felt as if each step was crushing her heart, filling her with dread.
Xu Ya was a girl sensitive to certain sounds. So, at the moment she heard those footsteps, she immediately recognized what was making them.
High heels! Only high heels could produce such a sound!
For some reason, upon hearing this noise, an image flashed in Xu Ya's mind.
In the quiet, eerie library, a woman dressed in red, wearing red high heels, walked through the aisles. With every step, the heels struck the floor with a sharp clack.
Once this image took root in her mind, it lingered like a deeply entrenched tree that she couldn't shake off.
At that moment, she dared not make a sound; she even held her breath, terrified of being discovered by the owner of those high heels outside. Her body instinctively pressed back into the embrace of the man behind her.
“Click-clack, click-clack.”
The sound grew closer and closer, and Xu Ya felt as if her heart might leap out of her throat!
Fortunately, the footsteps did not stop nearby; they continued to fade away until there was no sound left, and silence enveloped them once more.
Yet even then, Xu Ya did not dare to breathe. She held her breath until she felt on the verge of suffocation when suddenly she heard the man's breathing behind her!
“It's okay!”
Upon hearing his words, Xu Ya finally dared to breathe. She inhaled deeply, savoring the fresh air. For the first time, she realized how wonderful it was to be able to breathe.
The man behind Xu Ya also released his grip on her arm. As she realized he had let go, she took a couple of steps forward. Turning around to look at him, she felt a moment of distraction.
He was so handsome! He was exactly the kind of dream guy she had always longed for!
"What should we do now?"
At that moment, Xu Ya noticed that there was another girl standing behind the handsome man. The girl was beautiful and gave off the aura of a big star, yet there was something about her that made Xu Ya feel protective.
"First, let's return to the safe house. Also—"
As he spoke, he looked at Xu Ya and continued, "It's not safe in the library right now. Do you want to come with us?"
Xu Ya swore she only wanted to go back. However, upon hearing his deep, magnetic voice, she found herself inexplicably nodding in agreement!
Seeing her nod, the handsome man continued, "Sound Point. We can't make too much noise in the library right now."
After saying this, he took the hand of the girl behind him and began to walk forward slowly. Xu Ya hesitated for a moment; she wanted to backtrack. But remembering what he had just said, her instincts told her it was best to follow his lead. Reluctantly, she decided to walk along with them.
