Horror Chapter
On the second morning, Jiang Liu sat somewhat bored in the classroom, gazing at the empty white clouds.
In the front row, a few girls were whispering to each other, their conversation occasionally drifting into Jiang Liu's ears.
"I have to tell you all about something really strange that happened to me yesterday!"
A girl with a ponytail spoke mysteriously to the others beside her. The group was drawn in by her words, and a girl with slightly fair skin asked curiously, "What happened? Did you see a ghost?"
"I didn't see a ghost, but I almost died of fright!"
The Ponytail Girl was the one who had been scared last night. She recounted her experience with trepidation: "Last night while I was on the phone, suddenly a cold wind blew in. It startled me, and then I noticed it got really quiet around me. That wasn't even the worst part; the streetlight I was standing under started flickering on and off. I thought I was going to lose my mind and ran back to my dorm!"
"What happened next?" one of the girls asked eagerly.
"Then I just came back!" she replied.
As Jiang Liu listened to her recount her experience from the previous night, an unsettling feeling rose within him once more.
From the moment he entered this classroom, Jiang Liu had felt a sense of discomfort. Initially, he thought it was just his nerves being overly sensitive after experiencing several supernatural events, so he brushed it off. Moreover, with no mission details being announced, he simply assumed it was his imagination.
However, hearing Ponytail Girl's story brought that uncomfortable feeling back to the surface!
[Could it be that she didn’t see a ghost? Is it all just in her head?]
Jiang Liu pondered this thought until he was interrupted by the ringing of the class bell as Teacher Mei walked into the classroom holding a textbook.
After that came the relatively dull period of class time.
After class, Jiang Liu packed his books and left the classroom. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off; as he passed by Jiang, a chill ran down his spine, making him shiver unexpectedly.
An unsettling coldness emanated from Jiang, and just walking past him felt like taking a trip into an unfathomable icy abyss.
An indescribable fear crawled over Jiang Liu's heart, leaving him feeling uneasy all over.
"Hey! Jiang Liu, why are you standing here?"
A familiar voice pulled him back to reality. Turning around, he saw Lin Feng from his dormitory. Noticing Jiang Liu standing there in a daze, Lin Feng came over to check on him.
Jiang Liu ignored Lin Feng and instead searched for the source of his earlier fear—Jiang!
He spotted Jiang walking out of the classroom with two girls, laughing together. Strangely, it seemed that only Jiang Liu could sense that uncomfortable coldness; the expressions of the two girls beside Jiang indicated they felt nothing amiss.
What is going on? That unsettling feeling...
"Jiang Liu?" Lin Feng's voice called out again.
"Huh? What is it?" Jiang Liu snapped back to attention.
"Nothing much, just noticed you seemed distracted. What were you looking at?"
Lin Feng followed Jiang Liu's gaze, but by then, Jiang had already left the classroom with the two girls, so Lin Feng saw nothing.
"Oh, I was just thinking about something," Jiang Liu replied vaguely.
"I see! Well, I have to go now; I need to head out for work later."
With that, Lin Feng waved goodbye and left. Coming from a less fortunate background, he had taken a part-time job when school started to support himself while studying. The other dorm mates were aware of this, and Jiang Liu held great respect for students like Lin Feng.
After saying goodbye to Lin Feng, Jiang Liu hurried out of the classroom in search of Jiang's figure. However, once outside, he realized there were too many students leaving class; amidst the sea of faces, Jiang had already vanished from sight.
After searching in vain, Jiang Liu had no choice but to return to her dormitory alone.
In the deep of night, when everyone was lost in their dreams, a sound emerged from one of the rooms in the girls' dormitory.
Jiang had drunk a bit too much water before bed, and she was awakened in the middle of the night by an urgent need to relieve herself.
She got out of bed, fumbled in the dark to turn on the lights in the dormitory, and headed for the bathroom.
However, when she opened the door and saw the pitch-black hallway, memories of what she experienced on Lin Road last night flooded her mind. She felt a surge of fear and wanted to wake someone up to accompany her to the bathroom.
But when she turned around and saw that her roommates were all sound asleep, she dismissed the idea of calling anyone.
Looking at the dark corridor, she swallowed nervously and slowly made her way toward the bathroom.
“Pat pat.”
The sound of her footsteps echoed in the silent hallway. Jiang finally reached the bathroom door with the light from her phone guiding her.
Fortunately, the bathroom light was always on, which gave her a sense of security. The persistent discomfort in her lower abdomen made her temporarily forget her fear as she quickly found an empty stall and stepped inside.
Just as she finished up, another wave of pain hit her stomach. Jiang was grateful for her foresight in bringing toilet paper with her earlier, so she had no choice but to stay put for a while longer.
While Jiang was idly fiddling with her phone, a sudden sound of a door being pushed open startled her!
The unexpected noise made Jiang jump, but she quickly realized it was probably just another student coming to use the bathroom. She shrugged it off and continued playing with her phone.
“Creak!”
Before long, the door of the stall next to hers swung open with a loud creak. A shadow appeared beneath the gap at the bottom of the door, sending Jiang's heart racing.
Who could it be at this hour?
Jiang secretly thought to herself, but as soon as that idea crossed her mind, she felt the urge to sneak a peek next door. Slowly, she lowered her head and tried to look through the gap at the bottom of the door.
Just then, her phone suddenly rang, nearly causing her to drop it in fright!
She glanced at the screen and saw it was her roommate Li calling. Jiang had no choice but to suppress her curiosity and pulled her head back to answer the call.
"Hello? Jiang, where are you? I haven't seen you around!"
"Oh, I'm in the bathroom! It's all your fault for drinking so much water before bed; it's good for your skin, but it woke me up in the middle of the night!" Jiang complained a bit to Li.
"Oh, that's good then. I'm going back to sleep!"
"Yeah, go ahead."
After hanging up, Jiang noticed there was no sound coming from next door anymore, and she couldn't see any shadows. She looked down through the gap at the bottom of the door but didn’t see any feet. Assuming the person next door had left, she continued fiddling with her phone.
Suddenly! She felt an unsettling gaze upon her!
That gaze was so familiar! It felt like she had encountered it somewhere before!
In a flash, a realization struck her mind—she remembered where she had seen that gaze!
