Horror Chapter
As soon as Jiang Liu returned to the dormitory, his phone rang. He took it out and saw that it was a call from Nianxia.
"Hello? Is this Jiang Liu?"
Nianxia's familiar voice came through the other end of the line.
"Yes, it's me."
Jiang Liu tried hard to sound calm, but a smile couldn't help but appear on his face.
"How's it going? How do you feel?"
"What do you mean?"
"Come on, I mean how's life at H University? Are there beautiful girls everywhere and handsome guys in abundance?"
"I haven't really noticed that."
"You're being coy. By the way, where did you report today?"
"In Classroom 000. Do you know where that is?"
"Classroom 000? No idea."
"Haven't you been living on campus for a year? How do you not know this?"
"Nianxia, I'm really busy, you know! When do I have time to wander around?" she said with a hint of dissatisfaction.
"Is that so? By the way, which class are you in? I’d like to treat you to dinner tonight," Jiang Liu invited. This was his first time asking a girl out for a meal, and his heart raced uncontrollably.
"What? You want to invite me? Hold on! It's just the beginning of the semester, and I'm swamped with club activities and classes," she replied.
"Alright then."
Jiang Liu's tone fell a bit flat. Just as he was about to ask Nianxia when she would be free, her voice came through his phone again.
"I can't talk right now; someone from the club is looking for me! Let's leave it at that."
With that, she hung up. Listening to the beeping sound on his phone, Jiang Liu felt dejected as he set it down and lay back on his bed, feeling somewhat exhausted.
He stared blankly at the white flower panel on the wall, lost in thought.
Gradually, a wave of drowsiness washed over him, and Jiang Liu slowly drifted off to sleep. When he woke up again, it was already dark outside, and none of his roommates had returned yet.
Yawning, he realized he was a bit hungry. He got out of bed and went to the bathroom to splash some water on his face, preparing to go out for something to eat.
Just then, his phone vibrated. He picked it up and saw that someone had sent a message in the class group chat.
A message popped up: @everyone: Hello everyone! What are you all doing right now?
"Autumn Wind: I'm eating out, do you want to come over?"
"Empty Color: I'm out with friends, exploring the school."
"Forgetfulness: Sleeping."
"Excessive Existence: @everyone: Classes start tomorrow, everyone needs to work hard!"
Not finishing the conversation behind him, Jiang Liu turned off his phone and went out to eat.
After finishing his meal, Jiang Liu returned to the dormitory and found that several of his roommates were back, lying on their beds chatting.
Jiang Liu's upper bunkmate was a Glasses Man, who looked a bit sleazy but was quite friendly. He greeted Jiang Liu as soon as he saw him come back.
"Hey, brother, you're back from dinner!"
"Yeah, have you guys eaten?" Jiang Liu replied.
"We ate a while ago, just chatting now!"
"What are you talking about?" Jiang Liu was curious about what they were discussing.
"Ghost stories! How about it? Exciting, right? Why don't you share a couple?"
The chubby guy on Lin Feng's upper bunk winked at Jiang Liu, suggesting he tell them two ghost stories.
Jiang Liu had become somewhat sensitive to anything related to ghosts. Whenever he heard them discussing ghost stories, his body would tense up, and he would smile awkwardly.
"No thanks, I'm not really interested in that. Besides, I only read about it online; I’m sure you all know about it too."
"Then let's just drop it. How about we change the topic?" Eyed Man didn’t press further and shifted the conversation.
"What topic?" the chubby guy asked.
"When I reported today, I noticed there are a lot of beautiful girls in our class. Each one has such a figure and face."
Jiang Liu didn’t need to look to know how lewd Eyed Man's expression was at that moment, so he remained silent and didn’t join in on their chatter.
Meanwhile, on a quiet Lin Road at H University, a female student was walking alone while talking on her phone.
The streetlights on either side quietly emitted their glow, occasionally attracting a few moths drawn to the light. The surroundings were peaceful, with only the occasional chirping of insects breaking the silence.
Under the illumination of the streetlights, the female student's shadow stretched long, almost eerily so.
"I'm telling you, during today's report, I found several handsome guys in our class! Don’t think I’m not looking out for you, should I introduce you?"
"Oh my gosh! Seriously, they may not be super handsome, but they’re quite easy on the eyes!"
"How could I possibly lie to you!"
Just as the female student was speaking, a sudden cold wind swept through!
She shivered unexpectedly, nervously glancing around, but the area was quiet, and she didn’t notice anything unusual.
“Hey? Jiang? What’s wrong? Why did you suddenly stop talking?”
A voice from another woman came through the phone, sounding anxious as she repeatedly asked what had happened to Jiang.
Snapping back to reality, Jiang quickly picked up her phone. “It’s nothing; it was just a sudden gust of wind that startled me!”
“Are you still outside?”
“Yes, what’s up?”
“You’re really brave. Hurry back! What time is it? You’re still wandering around out there! Aren’t you afraid of ghosts?” The voice on the other end urged Jiang to return quickly.
“What’s there to be afraid of? It’s a different era now! Do you really think there are ghosts?”
Jiang dismissed the thought casually, but just as she said the word "ghost," she suddenly felt a gaze upon her. She scanned her surroundings again but still saw nothing.
Feeling a bit frightened now, she said to the voice on the other end, “Li, I just felt like someone was watching me, and it suddenly got so quiet around me! Do you think—”
“Stop scaring yourself and hurry back to the dorm!”
“Okay, I’m heading back now!”
Filled with fear, Jiang Wan hung up the phone, desperate to get away from the area.
But just then, the streetlight beside her began to flicker, its light dimming and brightening as if it were malfunctioning.
This sudden occurrence terrified Jiang, and she let out a loud scream before sprinting toward the dormitory as if her life depended on it.
Her figure gradually disappeared beneath the flickering streetlight.
The streetlight continued to flash erratically.
As her gaze shifted back to the streetlight where Jiang had been standing, a horrifying sight emerged!
A female corpse suddenly appeared, hanging from the streetlight by a rope, swaying gently in the wind beneath the light.
With each sway, the corpse blocked the light, and then with another sway, it moved away from it.
The occasional chirping of insects that had been heard earlier fell silent, plunging the surroundings into an absolute stillness!
