Horror Chapter
Some things are too difficult to contemplate, for every time you seek the truth behind an event, all you find is more confusion.
At H University, it was the first day of classes for the new students.
Jiang Liu sat quietly by the window in a classroom. The room was noisy, with conversations among students echoing throughout the entire floor. Yet, unusually, despite the clamor, no teachers, not even the disciplinary head, came to intervene, as if this classroom did not exist within the university.
He sighed inwardly, observing the excited students around him, wondering what thoughts occupied their minds.
In contrast to most of his classmates' anticipation for university life, there was one student in the classroom who displayed a starkly different demeanor.
Like Jiang Liu, he sat quietly in his seat, gazing at the groups of students discussing their future blissful college lives with an expression that seemed to carry an unknown intent. The slight curve of his lips suggested a mocking disdain for the foolishness of others.
On any other occasion, Jiang Liu might have taken notice of such an unusual student. Unfortunately, he was still lost in the confusion from earlier events.
It had been four days since the last supernatural incident, and during this time he discovered that three days of his memory were missing!
This all began on the night Jiang Liu first entered the Haunted Building.
That night, he wandered into an extra floor and lost himself in the darkness.
When he regained consciousness, it was already the eighth day of Military Training.
He had no idea whether he had fainted on the third day or if something had happened during that final night’s supernatural event that caused his memory loss over those last four days!
The reason for this uncertainty stemmed from what he learned from a few friends in his dormitory. They told him that afterward, he had participated in Military Training as usual and had gone to sleep with everyone else at night.
There was no mention of any disappearance or episodes of continuous fainting.
Hearing this from his roommates left Jiang Liu puzzled! He could not recall anything from those days.
His mind held no memories of those four days; it was as if his recollection had begun to fragment from that darkness.
What exactly happened during the gaps in his memory?
Eager to find out the answer, he rushed to Zhang Lin's dormitory area to ask a few of his roommates. However, from their mouths, he learned that Zhang Lin had returned that morning, taken a few pieces of clothing, and then disappeared. They had no idea where he had gone.
Unwilling to give up, he went to Shuangshuang's dormitory in search of clues, only to discover that none of them knew who Shuangshuang was! He almost got kicked out by the other girls in the dorm for being a creep.
Back in his own room, he lay alone on his bed, staring at the white-painted Flower Panel on the wall, his mind swirling in confusion.
After thinking for a long time, he came to a realization.
During the blank spots in his memory, among the five of them, the girl named Shuangshuang had died in that Haunted Building! Zhang Lin might have chosen to escape due to despair, but he leaned more towards another possibility!
Zhang Lin likely followed those two old men!
As for where they went? Jiang Liu wasn't sure.
But he was certain that those two old men must have returned to a place similar to a base!
Because during his first conversation with Liu Ming, he mentioned a name: Ke Yimeng!
That guy was definitely a creep. From these words, Jiang Liu could infer that those who experienced supernatural events—the Escapers—had a base or perhaps a place for information exchange.
In any case, most of the people there were likely Escapers of supernatural events.
However, one thing puzzled him greatly.
Why didn’t Liu Ming and the others take him along when the incident ended? Or was it because of some other reason that he had rejected them?
The more he thought about it, the more chaotic his mind became; and with that chaos came even more questions!
After about half an hour of contemplation, he finally began to understand.
Since what has happened cannot be changed and time cannot flow backward, life must go on. Reluctantly, Jiang Liu had no choice but to continue living at the university.
The next day, Jiang Liu and a group of freshmen who had just completed their military training boarded the bus leaving the campus.
As they departed from the Military Training Base, Jiang Liu looked back at the receding buildings, feeling a mix of emotions.
He never expected that such a simple military training session could have almost caused him to disappear from this world! The thought of Su Xue's disappearance filled him with sadness.
Throughout the journey, his feelings were complicated, like a jar of mixed flavors, each one distinct.
After more than an hour on the road, they returned to H University.
Once back in the dormitory, Jiang Liu learned from Lin Brother that they would be rearranging the dorm assignments. This meant that the dorms they had during military training would be shuffled again, and it was likely that the four of them would not be living together anymore.
A sense of melancholy spread among the four as they comforted each other. At noon, they went to a restaurant near the school gate for a meal before heading off with their various belongings toward their respective dorm buildings.
Jiang Liu held the newly assigned dorm key and searched for a long time before finally locating his dormitory.
Upon opening the door, he discovered that someone else had already moved in.
It was a person who appeared gentle and studious, likely a good student.
Indeed, he seemed to be the quiet type. After all, he had been overwhelmed by Lin Brother's incessant chatter during military training; he could use some peace and quiet!
Jiang Liu politely greeted his new roommate.
"Hello! My name is Jiang Liu. Jiang Liu who never gives up. From now on, we'll be living under the same roof."
"Hello, I'm Lin Feng. Lin from 'forest,' Feng from 'peak.' I look forward to working with you!"
Lin Feng seemed a bit reserved. After exchanging pleasantries, he fell silent, leaving an awkward atmosphere hanging in the air.
"You're going to report to the classroom tomorrow, right? Which classroom are you reporting to?"
Jiang Liu broke the awkward silence.
"I'm reporting to Classroom 000 tomorrow."
"Oh! What a coincidence! I'm also going to Classroom 000."
Jiang Liu placed his luggage on an empty bed and sat down.
"Yeah, what a coincidence!" Lin Feng replied. After a few seconds of silence, he suddenly remembered something and asked Jiang Liu, "By the way, I remember seeing you fighting with someone a few days ago. What was that about?"
Upon hearing Lin Feng's question, Jiang Liu didn't seem too surprised. He had already learned from a few people in the dormitory yesterday about what had happened during those three days when his memory went blank.
It seemed that the fight occurred just before he regained consciousness. According to Lang's description, he had acted quite impressively, getting into a fight with someone named Zhang Lin, and no one could stop him.
At that moment, Lang in the dormitory looked at Jiang Liu with astonishment. Despite his somewhat frail appearance, when he went wild, it took several people to hold him back.
Then came the incident of Jiang Liu falling into a coma.
