Horror Chapter
Lin Feng was a rural boy, living in a remote village in N City.
He was the eldest in his family and the most promising one. Besides him, there were only his elderly father and two younger sisters who had stopped attending school. His mother had passed away a few years ago due to a serious illness, unable to afford treatment.
After his mother's departure, his father aged significantly. Though he was just over forty, he had already begun to show signs of gray hair.
His father's beliefs were quite traditional; he thought that the key to changing one's life trajectory lay in the college entrance examination. Therefore, he would rather let his daughters give up their education than allow Lin Feng to abandon his studies.
He remembered the year his mother died, when he stood vigil by her coffin as the eldest son.
That night, he gazed at his mother's peaceful face, crying uncontrollably. He told his father that he didn't want to go to school and wished to stay by his father's side for the rest of his life.
He had lost his beloved mother and hadn't even been able to see her one last time before she passed away. He didn't want to lose his father as well.
His usually quiet father remained silent upon hearing his son's words. He lit a cigarette and smoked it down to the end before turning toward the kitchen. He took out a kitchen knife, typically used for cooking, and held it against his own neck, speaking each word with gravity:
"Do you know what your mother said before she died? She knew her illness couldn't be cured and didn't want to waste money on your education for treatment. She wanted you to go to college and succeed! Your grandfather was a farmer, and I am too, but I don't want you to follow in our footsteps. I don't want you to live your life facing the dirt! I don't want you to ruin your future! I don't want you to spend your life in this mountain!"
"I have no education; I accept that! Who can blame me for not being born at the right time? But you are different! You are the only one in this family with potential, and you must succeed! Your sisters won't amount to much even if they finish school; they can't bring glory to our family. All our hopes rest on you alone! Your mother didn't want your studies to be delayed, and I also don't want to see you give up on your life."
"Now, before your mother, I want you to swear that you will get into college; otherwise, I'll join her right away!"
That night, Lin Feng didn't know how he promised his father; he only knew that from then on, he became silent and withdrawn. He didn't like interacting with others. Throughout three years of high school, he had no friends and didn't need any. Aside from studying, he focused solely on doing exercises. The only belief in his mind was that he must get into college.
After the college entrance examination, he returned home to help his father with work.
As he and his father were preparing the fields, a letter arrived quietly.
It was the first time his father, who hadn't touched alcohol since his mother's death, got drunk.
The entire village erupted in firecrackers, all because their village had produced a Top Scorer!
That night, he knelt before his mother's grave, crying uncontrollably.
In the following days, his father took him to several homes for meals. Seeing his father's head full of white hair and his joyful face, he kept his thoughts to himself.
Half a month later, he took most of the family's savings and left the village, boarding a train to H City.
As he gazed at the magnificent and grand entrance of H University, he suddenly felt that life was nothing more than this. When the beliefs that had supported him vanished, he fell into confusion.
"Classroom 000? Does this classroom even exist in the school?"
Lin Feng showed the Report Book to others in the dormitory, hoping to find someone who knew where this classroom was located.
However, everyone claimed they had never heard of it but were equally certain that the school did have such a classroom; it wasn't just someone else's prank.
The following time was spent on Military Training at university.
For someone who had grown up working in a rural area, it was somewhat tough, but he didn't complain like others did.
During the first day of Military Training, Lin Feng discovered that he enjoyed this kind of training.
There was no need for other thoughts, nor did he have to pay attention to others' expressions; the only thing he needed to obey was the instructor's commands.
His mind didn't have to think about anything else; it only needed orders—obedience!
On the second noon of Military Training, Lin Feng sat alone at a table eating. Suddenly, a voice rang out from a nearby table.
"What’s wrong with you? Don’t you remember Su Xue?"
"Fourth, why are you so worked up? Sit down!"
Looking up, he saw a handsome young man speaking. Judging by his appearance, he seemed to be around the same age as Lin Feng.
Lin Feng merely glanced at him before lowering his head again to eat. He had no interest in other people's private matters; all he wanted was to finish his meal quickly and find a cool place to rest for a while, waiting for the afternoon training.
That night, he was awakened by voices coming from downstairs. He thought it was probably some students from the city wanting to sneak out at midnight, so he didn’t pay much attention and continued to bury his head under the covers.
On the third day of Military Training, he noticed that someone was missing from their group. However, since he had just started getting to know others, he couldn't recall who had not shown up for Military Training and didn’t dwell on it, continuing to obey the instructor's commands.
On the fourth day, it seemed that someone from the neighboring class had clashed with the instructor and faced punishment. He ignored it; the instructor had us run several laps to warm up.
On the fifth day, everything was just like usual; there were no changes.
By the sixth day, it felt like Military Training was coming to an end. He found himself somewhat reluctant to leave this lifestyle, as if it had always been this way.
Seventh, it seems that someone from the neighboring class got into a fight. It looks like the same person who shouted in the cafeteria last time, but their demeanor has changed a lot. It gives me a dangerous vibe, but it doesn't concern me. I probably won't have any contact with them, so I might as well continue standing at attention.
Eighth, huh? The boy who fought yesterday seems to be absent from Military Training. I heard from a friend that he might be sick. This reminds me of the reason for my mother's passing. Well, I still have my father and two sisters at home. Right now, my main focus should be on studying hard.
Ninth, today should be the last day of Military Training. Tomorrow, the school will send a vehicle to take us back. I feel a bit reluctant to part with my roommates and the instructors, but life must go on.
Tenth, I'm leaving today and will have to say goodbye to my roommates and instructors. Tomorrow marks the beginning of my university life. I wonder who my roommate will be tonight?
Huh? My roommate turns out to be that boy who got into a fight during Military Training!
What a small world! However, he seems completely different from the last time I saw him during the fight; that dangerous aura is gone.
His name is Jiang Liu, which is quite a nice name. But looking at his complexion, he doesn't seem too well. I wonder what’s wrong?
Oh! I wonder which classroom he will report to tomorrow?
What! He’s also reporting to Classroom 000 tomorrow? What a coincidence!
It seems like I have quite an affinity with this classmate; he can show me the way tomorrow.
But why does it seem like no one else knows where this classroom is?
