"I have an idea!"
Zhang Lin's words drew everyone's attention. Feeling the weight of their gazes, he sensed an unexpected pressure, particularly from Liu Ming's eyes.
"This is my first encounter with such supernatural events, so I'm not entirely clear on the differences between two types of phenomena. However, from what Jiang Liu just said, it occurred to me that perhaps our current supernatural incident might also have hints? Maybe we just haven't thought in that direction?"
Upon hearing this, Liu Ming pondered for a moment before asking, "If we assume there are hints for this escape route, what do you think they might be?"
"I don't know. I’m just speculating. I think it would be better to ask Jiang Liu about this since he has experienced two Alternate Dimension Incidents before."
Zhang Lin shifted everyone's focus to Jiang Liu.
"Jiang Liu, based on your previous experiences, do you have any insights?" Liu Ming inquired.
"I don't have any specific insights, but I agree with Zhang Lin's perspective."
"Oh!" Liu Ming was somewhat surprised.
"First of all, looking at the content of this mission, we are supposed to enter additional floors. Yet here we are, unable to find those floors. Since we are meant to enter them, it implies that there shouldn't be a situation where we can't locate them. If we take this as a premise, the only possibility we can deduce is that the floors must already exist."
"That makes sense. Go on!"
"If the floors have already appeared, it means there must be some change occurring within the Haunted Building. However, up until now, we haven't discovered anything! If we don’t enter, we will definitely die, but 'it' wouldn’t create a mission that guarantees our demise. Therefore, I suspect 'it' will provide us with some hints to help us access the additional staircase!"
"That seems to circle back around!" Wang Xing remarked.
"Not quite circling back; at least Jiang Liu's statements affirm the notion that there will be hints for this mission," Liu Ming replied.
"But our situation is that we have no idea where those hints might be!"
As they finished the sentence, everyone's gaze shifted back to Jiang Liu.
Jiang Liu pinched the bridge of his nose and continued, "Based on my previous experience with the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident, I suspect that there might have been some hints present during our time in the Haunted Building that we simply overlooked."
"You mean, the mission hints could have been given to us as we entered the Haunted Building?" Wang Xing asked, puzzled. "But all we've done since entering this Haunted Building is climb up and down the stairs, and we carefully observed our surroundings in the corridors without noticing anything unusual."
"Wait! It seems like there's one place we haven't checked!" Liu Ming suddenly exclaimed.
"The stairs!" Jiang Liu said.
"Exactly!" Liu Ming nodded and addressed everyone, "Let's go through it again! But this time, everyone pay attention to the number of steps on each floor!"
"You suspect that the hint might be on the stairs?" Wang Xing looked at Liu Ming in surprise.
"Yes, there's a high possibility! It just occurred to me that if we want to access additional floors, we first need to find the stairs that connect to those floors!"
"What are we waiting for? Let's hurry up!"
Wang Xing urged everyone to set off eagerly.
Once again back in the corridor, everyone was seriously counting the steps they were taking, and the surroundings grew unusually quiet.
One, two, three... thirty... eleven.
With her head down, Shuangshuang focused on the steps beneath her feet, diligently calculating.
When she reached thirteen, she paused!
She remembered that there had only been twelve steps previously. When did an extra step appear?
Quickly raising her head to share this discovery with the others, she froze in shock!
She found herself in an unfamiliar floor, and the reason it felt strange was that she had never seen this level before. There were no classrooms like those on other floors; it was completely empty!
Upon realizing this, Shuangshuang's first reaction was that she had entered that extra floor.
But what about the others?
All the people around her had suddenly vanished, leaving her alone in the desolate space.
“Zhang Lin? Where are you guys?”
Shuangshuang shouted in panic, hoping for a response. But no sound came back; her voice echoed alone in the empty floor.
Shuangshuang was terrified. She couldn't understand how she ended up in this strange place! Clearly, Liu Ming and the others were ahead of her, yet she was the one who entered this extra floor!
After hearing no reply, Shuangshuang instinctively wanted to turn and leave, but when she looked back, she was confronted with a horrifying sight!
The hallway that had been there moments ago had vanished, replaced by a blank white wall!
This is it! Am I going to die here?
Shuangshuang didn't know what to do. She stared fearfully into the surrounding darkness. Earlier, since she had been with Zhang Lin, Wang Xing had given his flashlight to Zhang Lin, thinking she wouldn't need one.
Little did she expect to find herself alone in this eerie floor. Without a flashlight, she could only rely on the moonlight streaming in from the window to observe her surroundings.
In this silent, vast environment, Shuangshuang felt like she was losing her mind!
She wanted to leave and escape this place, but just as she took a step forward, she recalled Zhang Lin's words: No matter what happens, as long as it doesn't threaten your life, you must stay put! I will come find you!
That thought made Shuangshuang retract her foot.
“No! I have to stay here and wait for Zhang Lin! I absolutely cannot run off!”
At that moment, Shuangshuang seemed to hear Zhang Lin's voice faintly coming from the darkness in the distance.
Upon hearing that voice, she was overjoyed, thinking that Zhang Lin had discovered her disappearance and had come to this eerie floor to find her. Without thinking too much, she shouted loudly.
"I'm here! Zhang Lin, I'm here!"
The voice seemed to grow fainter, and Shuangshuang could barely hear Zhang Lin's voice anymore. She thought Zhang Lin hadn't heard her and felt a rush of panic about what to do next!
When she realized that Zhang Lin's voice had fallen silent, Shuangshuang was completely frantic. She didn't want to be alone here; if she stayed any longer, she would go insane!
Finally, she made a decision!
She decided to leave her spot and follow the sound to find Zhang Lin!
As soon as this thought emerged, it consumed her like a spell, and Shuangshuang had no other thoughts.
With gritted teeth, she ran toward the darkness of the corridor!
Her figure gradually disappeared into the depths of the corridor, leaving only the sound of her hurried footsteps echoing occasionally in the hallway.
