Horror Chapter
A group of people nervously stepped into the pitch-black room, on high alert for any ghosts that might suddenly leap out from the surrounding darkness!
As Zhang Lin entered the room, she felt an unsettling sense of vastness; the combined light from three mobile phones failed to illuminate the entire space. A fog-like darkness enveloped the four of them.
The lighting system on their phones lacked the penetrating power of a flashlight; the beams barely pierced through the darkness to reach the walls.
Liu Ming, who had entered the room first, quickly noticed this issue. His brows furrowed deeply; it was different from what he had observed earlier. He remembered that while the room was large, he could still make out its general layout!
“Everyone, be careful! Something feels off about this room! We need to find the body quickly!” Liu Ming warned the others behind him.
“What feels off?” Wang Xing asked.
“The room is much larger than when I saw it before!”
Upon hearing Liu Ming's words, a chill crept up from the feet of the three others, a creepy sensation filling the air around them.
Their already tense emotions heightened even further! They thought to themselves: What does Liu Ming mean by that? Can a room actually get bigger?
Liu Ming ignored the unnatural expressions on his companions' faces and directed his phone's light toward a massive coffee table.
The coffee table appeared unchanged; the chairs were neatly arranged, and their number remained consistent. Just as Liu Ming was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a glint from the corner of the table caught his attention!
He hurried forward and shone his phone's light on it, revealing a pair of black-framed glasses. Initially puzzled, he suddenly seemed to recall something and shouted, “Wang Xing! Come over and take a look at this!”
Hearing Liu Ming's call, Wang Xing stopped observing and walked over to Liu Ming, asking, "What’s wrong? What do you want me to see?"
"Look at this. Doesn’t it look familiar?"
Following Liu Ming's direction, a pair of black-rimmed glasses came into Wang Xing's view. At first, he was puzzled as to why Liu Ming wanted him to look at such glasses, but then he felt that the black-rimmed glasses looked somewhat familiar. After thinking carefully, he was stunned!
Aren't these the glasses belonging to the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man? How did they end up here? Didn't he run downstairs?
"Is this the new guy's glasses that were following you?" Liu Ming asked.
"Yes, that's right! It's definitely his glasses. But why are his glasses here? I remember he ran downstairs; there's no way he could have come up to the seventh floor!"
Upon hearing Wang Xing confirm that these were indeed the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man's glasses, Liu Ming stopped paying attention to them and turned his phone around to scan the surroundings. "Something feels off! Everyone, quickly search for the body; we can't stay here any longer!"
As Liu Ming's serious tone registered with them, the others realized that things were developing in an undesirable direction and hurriedly began to observe their surroundings.
Zhang Lin withdrew her energy from Liu Ming and pulled Shuangshuangxin along as they scanned the area.
Just as Zhang Lin was examining the wall, she felt a chill on her ear, as if something had dripped onto it. Instinctively, she reached up to touch it and indeed found water!
Bringing her fingers in front of her eyes, she was shocked to see a bright red liquid on her fingertips!
Zhang Lin froze instinctively, puzzled: Why is there blood on my hand? I’m not injured!
Looking up…
The sight nearly scared the soul out of him!
There lay a corpse on the Flower Panel in the room! The body’s abdomen had been ripped open by some unknown force, and strangely, it was empty inside; the internal organs had long since vanished, leaving only a hollow cavity exposed to the air, with blood and flesh visible. Zhang Lin could vaguely see the spine of the corpse.
At that moment, Zhang Lin was stunned by this sudden horrific scene, unsure of how to react. He raised the flashlight on his phone to get a better look at whose body it might be.
As the light illuminated the face of the corpse, a faceless visage appeared before him, with bloodshot red eyes staring intently at Zhang Lin. He had completely forgotten how to respond, standing there dumbfounded as he locked eyes with the corpse.
Beside him, Shuangshuang noticed Zhang Lin's intense gaze fixed on the Flower Panel and curiously looked up.
"Ah!"
A sharp, piercing scream suddenly echoed in the dark room, startling the two nearby who were talking. They hurried over to Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang.
Zhang Lin, still locked in a stare with the corpse, was jolted back to reality by Shuangshuang's scream. He immediately ran to the side and squatted down, throwing up. It was his first time witnessing such a bloody scene! Let alone being so close to it; he felt that if he hadn’t fainted, his mental fortitude must have been quite strong!
"What happened?"
As they reached Zhang Lin's side and saw him retching on the ground, Wang Xing asked anxiously. At that moment, Zhang Lin had no strength to explain anything; he simply pointed upward to signal them to look.
Following Zhang Lin's gesture, they looked up and saw what he had just witnessed. A wave of discomfort washed over them, accompanied by a strong urge to vomit.
"Damn, who is this? They died so horribly!"
Wang Xing had probably seen too many gruesome deaths before; he quickly suppressed his urge to vomit and turned his pale face toward Liu Ming.
Liu Ming struggled not to divert his gaze from the corpse, carefully studying its bloodied face. He glanced at the clothes on the body and finally pointed at a pair of black glasses on the coffee table without saying a word.
Wang Xing glanced at the black glasses on the guest table, his expression a mix of surprise and disbelief. Finally, he swallowed hard and said to Liu Ming, "Are you the corpse of that Glasses Man?"
Seeing Liu Ming nod with a grim face, Wang Xing continued, "That’s impossible! I clearly saw him running downstairs; there’s no way he could have made it to the seventh floor. Besides, wasn’t it that newcomer who was dragged into the room with you?"
"I don’t know."
Liu Ming shook his head. He couldn’t understand why the corpse in this room wasn’t the newcomer who had been pulled inside but rather another newcomer who shouldn’t have been able to reach the seventh floor. A multitude of confusions plagued Liu Ming.
"What do we do now?" Wang Xing asked.
"Get him out of here! Since we’ve found a corpse, no matter whose it is, it’s still a corpse!"
Upon hearing Liu Ming's words, Zhang Lin, who had just stopped vomiting, felt the urge to retch again.
What kind of joke is this? Who would want to handle such a terrifying corpse? And let alone carry such a horrifying body out of this Haunted Building!
Liu Ming noticed the pale faces of both Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang. He understood that suddenly confronting a gruesome corpse would be overwhelming for newcomers who had just encountered supernatural events. But knowing didn’t change the fact that they had to accept this situation quickly!
Shuangshuang was a girl, and seeing her reaction made it clear that she wouldn’t touch the corpse even if someone paid her. So Liu Ming thought for a moment and said to Zhang Lin:
"You have two choices: either take this corpse down or carry it out of this Haunted Building!"
"I'll take the corpse out!"
Zhang Lin made her choice without hesitation, forcing herself to stand up with feigned calmness.
"Then let’s get started! Wang Xing, you follow Zhang Lin and help her with the corpse while I carry it out!"
Liu Ming didn't care much about leaving the most disgusting tasks for himself. After all, in previous supernatural incidents, he had done repulsive things to survive, like carrying a corpse out.
Once the decision was made, Wang Xing moved a few chairs under the body, signaling Zhang Lin to stand on them and prepare to lift the corpse down.
Zhang Lin swallowed hard as he looked at the chairs. He really didn't want to touch that disgusting body, but he understood that no one could get through tonight's ordeal without putting in some effort. Gritting his teeth, he climbed onto the chair. Meanwhile, Shuangshuang, who was still retching nearby, anxiously watched Zhang Lin standing on the chair. Just as he caught sight of that horrifying scene again, he vomited once more.
Zhang Lin climbed onto the chair, trying his best not to focus on the empty cavity of the corpse. His trembling hands reached for the arm of the body while his mind raced with thoughts: How did this corpse end up lying on the Flower Panel? This completely defied Newton's second law!
Just as he placed his hand on the corpse's clothing, it seemed to detach from the Flower Panel like a magnet and fell heavily to the ground!
Instinctively, Zhang Lin tried to dodge away but forgot he was standing on a chair and lost his balance, tumbling down.
The corpse crashed down onto the floor with a thud, splattering a few drops of blood onto Liu Ming's face.
Liu Ming's already pale face turned even more ghastly as blood from the corpse splattered onto him.
The other two were startled, especially Shuangshuang, who screamed loudly at the sight of the falling body and then retched again. At this rate, it seemed she might soon lack even the strength to stand.
"Alright, since the corpse has fallen, let's hurry and carry it out," Liu Ming said.
In disbelief, Zhang Lin watched as Liu Ming calmly lifted the body and asked Wang Xing for help to hoist it onto his back.
Since the corpse had no internal organs left, Liu Ming didn't want its ribcage digging into his back. He had Wang Xing help him carry it backward. Once they were set up, Liu Ming looked at the two pale-faced companions and tried hard to forget that he was carrying a corpse as he urged, "Hurry up and get up! We need to leave quickly!"
Snapping back to reality, Zhang Lin quickly got up and helped Shuangshuang, who was still vomiting. Shuangshuang was in such a state that she couldn't stand at all! With no other choice, Zhang Lin hoisted her onto his back and headed toward the door.
The group remained silent along the way, keeping vigilant of their surroundings. No one spoke. It made sense! In this dark and chilly environment, four people were carrying a terrifying corpse through a silent corridor—who would have the mood to talk?
Until they stepped out of the Haunted Building, Zhang Lin could hardly believe that the four of them had safely exited the Haunted Building!
This was unscientific! It was nothing like what she had imagined!
Weren't they supposed to face life-and-death situations on their way out? Why had it been so easy to leave the Haunted Building? Had the ghosts decided to spare them?
As soon as they emerged from the Haunted Building, Liu Ming dropped the body onto the ground. The black shirt was soaked with the corpse's blood, yet Liu Ming's demeanor was surprisingly calm, as if he hadn't just carried a body.
"Alright, it's over!"
Liu Ming said lightly to the two who had just escaped hell.
"Tonight's mission is finished. Don't forget, there are still five more missions like this one ahead! Let me give you some advice: if you want to survive future supernatural events, it's best not to react in such a panicked manner as you did tonight. Although you were lucky to get out of the Haunted Building this time, it was only because there were no ghosts present. If you react like this again tomorrow, your chances of dying will be very high!"
With that, he turned and walked into the darkness with Wang Xing, leaving Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang standing in front of the Haunted Building.
Regaining her composure, Zhang Lin took a deep breath and silently continued carrying Shuangshuang toward their dormitory.
The Haunted Building fell back into an eerie silence once more.
