Horror Chapter
The silence of the corridor was shattered by the continuous 'thud' of footsteps from the four individuals, making the atmosphere feel particularly eerie.
In the Haunted Building, not a single light functioned properly; all were broken.
This forced the four to rely on the faint glow of their mobile phones to illuminate their path. The strange environment further slowed their pace.
With every step taken and each crisp footfall echoing, a wave of tension washed over them.
Liu Ming and Wang Xing, being older and having experienced many bizarre events, remained remarkably calm in the face of such unsettling surroundings. They showed no signs of unease, or if they did, they concealed it well enough that the others could not discern it from their expressions.
Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang, however, were not as composed. Both were encountering such terrifying events for the first time, and faced with an environment that seemed ordinary to the older men, they felt a creeping fear.
"I suddenly remember a flaw in your earlier suggestion," Liu Ming's voice cut through the silence ahead. "What if after we three enter the room, a ghost suddenly appears from outside to attack your girlfriend? You should know that I initially had my doubts when that newcomer was dragged into the room and a woman in white appeared outside!"
His voice echoed ominously in the quiet corridor, amplifying every word. To Zhang Lin, it felt as if Liu Ming was shouting directly into his ear, startling him from his thoughts.
Zhang Lin hesitated for a moment at Liu Ming's words but quickly resumed walking without responding.
After waiting for a while without hearing Zhang Lin's reply, Liu Ming shook his head and fell silent again as they continued toward the seventh floor.
Wang Xing glanced around at the dark corridor and suddenly recalled something he seemed to have forgotten! Upon reflection, it was about the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man who had vanished! If he wasn't mistaken, the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man must have disappeared somewhere in this corridor!
He estimated that by now he had likely been killed by a ghost! But why hadn’t they seen his body?
The four remained silent among themselves.
The distance from the second floor to the seventh was only five short flights of stairs. Since nothing strange had occurred, they quickly spotted the outline of the seventh floor appearing at the top of the staircase.
Thinking about entering that haunted room soon made their footsteps slow involuntarily.
Liu Ming led the way, directing his phone's light toward the seventh floor to carefully observe everything there.
The others behind Liu Ming were influenced by his cautious behavior, each of them straining to suppress the heavy sounds of their footsteps and breathing, moving slowly like a thief hidden in the darkness, toward what might be a path to safety.
The short flight of stairs, just a dozen steps, took them seven or eight minutes to traverse!
During this time, everyone was fearful that a ghost in white might suddenly appear around them, so they walked with extreme caution.
Fortunately, the ghost in white that Liu Ming had mentioned did not reappear, which allowed the three trailing behind him to breathe a sigh of relief.
How strange! Why hadn’t the ghost shown up? Was his assumption wrong? Was the ghost’s appearance not a warning for him to avoid lingering on the seventh floor?
A series of questions floated through Liu Ming's mind, but due to the urgency of the situation, he had no time to ponder them one by one. He had no choice but to set them aside and begin carefully observing the space on the seventh floor.
Liu Ming was the first to clearly see the seventh floor. After surveying all of its surroundings, he froze, his body halting in place as he hesitated to take that final step down.
The three behind him noticed Liu Ming’s unusual behavior and immediately stopped in alarm.
Wang Xing called out to Liu Ming ahead, “Liu Ming! What’s wrong? Did you notice something off?”
Zhang Lin and the others anxiously awaited Liu Ming's response, clearly ready to bolt at any moment if Liu Ming indicated danger.
“The door is open!”
Liu Ming’s expression was grim. When he saw that old brown wooden door ajar, an ominous feeling surged in his mind.
Upon hearing Liu Ming's words, the faces of the three behind him quickly turned pale.
They understood what Liu Ming meant: if the door was open, it indicated that whatever was inside might have come out! This meant that being outside wasn’t safe either; they could very well face an attack from a ghost at any moment!
Especially Zhang Lin. When he heard Liu Ming say “the door is open,” he realized that his earlier suggestion was no longer viable!
He had previously suggested that Shuangshuang stay outside because he thought it would be safer there if the ghost was inside. But now it seemed that staying outside was no safer than entering; leaving Shuangshuang alone outside was tantamount to sending her to her doom!
“What do we do now?” Wang Xing asked.
Liu Ming looked at the dark room, gritted his teeth, and said to the three behind him, "There's no turning back now that we're here. Let's continue with the original plan!"
With that, Liu Ming made a gesture to proceed and stepped into the seventh floor. Wang Xing followed Liu Ming without hesitation.
Zhang Lin turned to Shuangshuang and nodded, signaling her not to be afraid, assuring her that everything would be fine. After seeing Shuangshuang nod in response, the two of them no longer hesitated and followed Wang Xing up the stairs.
As Zhang Lin entered the seventh floor, he realized that its layout was completely different from the other six floors. There were no classrooms or windows; only a solitary wooden door stood quietly ajar. The heavy darkness beyond the door seemed like an invisible maw, silently waiting for them to walk into its trap.
Liu Ming also felt uneasy and stood three or four steps away from the wooden door. He shone his phone's flashlight into the room, but it remained shrouded in darkness. The thick blackness obscured everything, as if some terrifying entity within was capable of swallowing even light itself.
"Are you ready?" Liu Ming turned to look at the three of them. He saw Wang Xing nodding and then glanced at Zhang Lin, who also indicated that they were prepared. It seemed both of them were ready to enter, as if their earlier concerns had vanished.
Seeing their determination, Liu Ming quickly understood their thoughts. Without saying much, he turned back to face the pitch-black room and said, "Once we enter, our main objective is to find the body! As soon as we locate it, we’ll carry it out and run. As long as we get out of this Haunted Building tonight, we'll be safe!"
After finishing his sentence, Liu Ming didn’t wait for a response from the others and slowly walked into the dark room. The three behind him exchanged glances and silently followed Liu Ming into the darkness.
