Horror Chapter
Time rewound to the moment when Zhang Lin opened the teacher's door.
As he pushed the door open, Zhang Lin could distinctly feel a chill breeze blowing from inside the classroom, rushing toward him. He involuntarily shivered, and behind him, Shuangshuang also sensed this eerie wind, instinctively tightening her grip on Zhang Lin's arm.
"Zhang Lin, how about we just stay at the door and take a look? I’m scared to go in; it’s pitch black inside."
Shuangshuang leaned her head forward to peer into the dark classroom. She had a feeling that an evil gaze was watching them from some shadowy corner, making her skin crawl.
"Alright, we’ll just look from the doorway."
Zhang Lin could also sense that sinister gaze fixed on him, a flicker of fear creeping into his heart. After hearing Shuangshuang's words, he abandoned the idea of entering the dark classroom and nodded, using his phone as a flashlight to illuminate the darkness.
Perhaps Lady Luck had heard Zhang Lin's silent plea; although the classroom was dark, nothing jumped out to scare them as he had imagined.
The classroom was eerily quiet, with clean desks neatly arranged. Two fans hung from the ceiling, and under the beam of his phone light, their shadows cast ominously on the white walls, resembling a grim reaper's scythe poised to strike with its sharp blade at any moment.
After searching for a while without finding the body required for their task, Zhang Lin felt a mix of disappointment and relief.
He wondered if he would have the courage to carry a corpse out of this Haunted Building if he actually found one. Perhaps his greatest bravery would be calling down a few people from upstairs for help.
He squeezed Shuangshuang's hand, feeling her soft warmth, and gently said, "There’s no body in this classroom; let’s go find another one!"
Upon hearing this, Shuangshuang visibly relaxed. She took Zhang Lin's hand and led him outside.
She was also afraid that Zhang Lin would suddenly discover a corpse and make them carry it out! For a girl who would feel faint at the sight of blood, that was simply unacceptable.
The moment they stepped out of the classroom, Zhang Lin's peripheral vision seemed to catch a glimpse of something red floating in the corner of the room, causing his previously relaxed mood to tighten to the extreme!
In a panic, he moved his phone back into the classroom, but it looked just as it had before; there was no sign of anything red.
Beside him, Shuangshuang saw Zhang Lin directing his phone toward the classroom again and assumed he had discovered something. She asked nervously, "What’s wrong? Did you find something?"
"No, no, it’s nothing. I must have just imagined it!"
To prevent Shuangshuang from feeling scared, Zhang Lin concealed the fact that he had seen something red earlier and said to her, "Let’s go to the next classroom."
With that, he took Shuangshuang's hand and left the open classroom. Seeing Zhang Lin hurriedly exit the dark room, Shuangshuang wisely chose not to press him further and followed him obediently to the next classroom.
Perhaps the fear from seeing the red figure in that dark classroom still lingered; when they reached the door of the next classroom, Zhang Lin didn’t immediately open it. Instead, he stood there dazedly in front of the metal door handle, lost in thought.
"What’s wrong? Zhang Lin?"
Noticing Zhang Lin standing there in a daze, Shuangshuang couldn’t help but ask.
"Oh, it’s nothing."
Hearing Shuangshuang's question snapped Zhang Lin back to reality. He looked at the iron door marked with the number "10," took a deep breath to encourage himself:
"Don't be afraid! You still have Shuangshuang behind you. If you let fear stop you from opening this classroom door now, what will you use to protect her in the days to come?"
Perhaps it was love that gave him courage, or maybe it was the soft sensation in his hand that provided him with a reason to keep going.
Zhang Lin slowly and firmly reached for the doorknob, gradually turning it and pushing the door open bit by bit.
The room inside was arranged exactly like the previous classroom, with nothing extra added. If anything, there were just a few unimportant chairs missing.
"This classroom doesn't have anything either."
After stepping out of the classroom, Zhang Lin noticed Shuangshuang behind him, looking around curiously.
"Shuangshuang, what are you looking at?"
"I don't know!"
Shuangshuang glanced down the dark corridor, a hint of fear in her voice. "I feel like there's an evil gaze watching me since earlier, but no matter how I look, I can't find where it's coming from! It feels like there are things all around me watching!"
Hearing this, Zhang Lin's heart skipped a beat.
He hadn't expected Shuangshuang to sense it too! From the moment he entered the Haunted Building, he had felt an evil gaze fixed on him. Especially at the moment he opened the classroom door, that feeling had been extraordinarily intense!
It was as if Malice itself was staring right at him!
Though he could sense that evil gaze as well, in this bizarre environment, if he told Shuangshuang the truth, they would likely both fall into a panic and lose their rationality!
A few comforting words were exchanged.
"Don't overthink it; it might just be your imagination! In an environment like this, it's easy for one's feelings to be deceived by their own thoughts! Let's check all the classrooms quickly and regroup with Wang Xing and the others!"
Shuangshuang also wanted to leave this eerie floor as soon as possible. After hearing Zhang Lin's explanation, she had no choice but to retract her gaze and follow Zhang Lin to the next classroom.
What they didn't notice was that as they left, the classroom door they had opened began to move on its own!
The door was made of heavy iron, so it shouldn't have been able to swing open from a breeze, especially since there wasn't a hint of wind in the air! Yet, strangely, it began to move by itself and slowly closed.
Both of them felt an evil gaze fixated on them. Driven by fear, Zhang Lin quickened her pace. They only took a cursory glance at the dark corners of the remaining classrooms. After confirming there were no bodies, they hurried to the next room without pausing for even a moment.
After checking all the classrooms on the first floor, they found no bodies as required by their mission and had no choice but to head to the second floor of the Haunted Building.
"Clack, clack."
The sharp sound of footsteps echoed through the silent hallway. The noise was so loud that it felt as if each step they took was pounding against their hearts, shaking their very souls.
