Horror Chapter
"One two one, one two one."
Under the blazing morning sun, a group of freshmen dressed in camouflage uniforms were enduring the instructor's scolding, sweating profusely on the training ground.
After finishing an 800-meter warm-up run, the instructor allowed everyone a break of zero minutes. Upon hearing this, everyone erupted into cries of despair, much to the amusement of the instructor at the front of the line.
"Damn it, the instructor is too harsh. In this heat, we still have to warm up with 800 meters! Does he think that 800 meters is just a warm-up for us?"
As soon as the instructor left, Lin Brother began to complain loudly within the ranks. Jiang Liu, who was panting heavily beside him, finally caught his breath and said, "What do you expect? The instructor isn't just sitting around!"
"Ah, enough of that. Jiang Liu, look at those girls from the next class!" Lin Brother pointed with his chin in a certain direction, urging Jiang Liu to take a look. Following Lin Brother's gesture, he indeed spotted several fair-skinned and beautiful girls laughing and teasing them. "Looks like your attention is entirely on finding girls!"
"I don't appreciate that comment. Everyone has a desire to admire beauty," Lin Brother replied in a seasoned tone. "When I came to this school, I heard that our class has plenty of resources. Didn't you see how those seniors acted during the freshman orientation? They were like wolves that hadn't eaten meat in eight hundred years, rushing over as soon as they saw girls. Some even managed to get a few beautiful girls' numbers!"
At this point, Lin Brother grew somewhat displeased. "If those guys can get numbers looking like that, why haven't any girls come over to chat with us two handsome guys?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Liu decided to stop engaging in conversation. After these few exchanges, he realized that Lin Brother was the type who would keep talking if you responded; the more you engaged, the more he would go on and on. His gaze began to wander around in search of their other two roommates.
The morning's military training ended amidst a cacophony of complaints.
Everyone shed their weak demeanor from training and rushed madly toward the cafeteria. After waiting in line for what felt like an eternity, Jiang Liu finally got his meal and casually found a seat to sit down. It wasn't long before Lin Brother joined him with his own plate.
"By the way! Jiang Liu, have you heard any news?"
While enjoying his meal, Jiang Liu suddenly paused upon hearing Lin Brother's question and set down his chopsticks. "What news?"
Lin Brother glanced around and noticed that no one was paying attention to their table. He leaned in and said, "Actually, at our H University, someone died a long time ago!"
"Clatter."
Jiang Liu fumbled with his chopsticks, dropping them onto the table. Upon hearing Lin Brother's words, his heart raced with an unsettling premonition. Picking up his chopsticks again, he feigned calmness and asked, "What do you mean someone died? Don't just make stuff up!"
"Look at you, scared out of your wits! You can't even hold your chopsticks!" Lin Brother scoffed at Jiang Liu's startled reaction and continued, "I'm not making it up. Didn't I tell you? I have a cousin who used to study at this school."
"I know that. Are you saying you heard it from him?" Jiang Liu resumed eating but slowed down a bit.
"Yeah," Lin Brother nodded and added, "But it was just over ten years ago."
Hearing this, Jiang Liu finally relaxed and laughed as he scolded, "So you were just trying to scare me! Over ten years ago? You still have the nerve! That school hasn't had anyone die; there are plenty of people committing suicide over love these days! Not to mention those who jump off buildings during college entrance exams!"
Lin Brother felt a bit guilty for being so dramatic and decided to focus on devouring the food in front of him. Jiang Liu ate quickly, finishing his meal while Lin Brother had barely made a dent in his.
Just as Jiang Liu was feeling bored, a girl with a tomboyish vibe approached their table and smiled at him. "Hey handsome, mind if I join you?"
"Of course not!" Jiang Liu replied gallantly, wiping down the chair for her.
Hearing Jiang Liu's response, the tomboy turned and called out to another girl nearby, "YaYa, come here! I found a spot!"
"Pfft." Upon hearing that name, Lin Brother spat out the food in his mouth. Fortunately, Jiang Liu reacted quickly and dodged just in time.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I couldn't hold it in!" Lin Brother quickly apologized to the two girls at the table and promised, "As an apology, let me buy you some water!"
The girl referred to as YaYa by Tomboy appeared quite innocent, having had little interaction with boys. Perhaps she was startled by Lin Brother's earlier antics, as her face turned bright red, resembling a shy chick hiding behind Tomboy. Tomboy shot Lin Brother a glare and said bluntly, "Then hurry up! My sister here doesn't drink soda or anything like that!"
"Got it! Got it!" Lin Brother replied eagerly before scampering off to buy drinks for everyone.
Watching Lin Brother's awkward demeanor, Jiang Liu helplessly addressed the two girls in front of him, "Please have a seat; my friend just got a bit carried away!"
"It's fine, I didn't take it to heart!" Tomboy replied generously, assuring Jiang Liu that he needn't worry, and she took a seat across from him with the blushing girl.
Once the two girls were seated, Jiang Liu fell silent, lost in thought about certain matters. However, this behavior displeased Tomboy, who began to doubt her charm. She asked, "By the way, since we’ve met, let’s introduce ourselves! I'm Xu Zhaodi, and this shy girl next to me is Su Yan, nicknamed YaYa!"
At this point, Su Yan tugged at Xu Zhaodi's sleeve in discontent, seemingly unhappy that her nickname was revealed in front of others.
Seeing this scene made Jiang Liu feel a slight fondness for the two girls. He introduced himself, "Oh, I'm Jiang Liu—Jiang Liu who never rests. The one who went to buy drinks is my roommate Lin Brother—Lin from the forest and Lang from clear air."
"Yeah, you both have nice names!" Xu Zhaodi nodded.
"Not at all; your names are much nicer."
"I’m back! Here you go! These are for you two—specifically bought some energy drinks."
Lin Brother returned with the drinks he had purchased and handed them to the two girls with a self-satisfied smile, saying, "I haven't introduced myself yet; I'm Lin Brother."
"Your buddy already introduced you. I'm Xu Zhaodi, and this is Su Yan," she replied.
Upon hearing that Jiang Liu had already introduced him, Lin Brother discreetly kicked him a few times in annoyance for being so nosy. He smiled and said, "Since we all know each other's names now, how about we exchange phone numbers? Next time we have a chance, we can all grab a meal together!"
Jiang Liu was completely stunned by Lin Brother's audacity. He couldn't believe that he had directly asked two girls for their numbers! Was Lang really that desperate?
"Haha, since you're so interesting, I don't mind leaving a number!" Xu Zhaodi said with a mischievous smile. "I'm fine with it, but whether Sister Su is willing to give me hers is another matter!"
Hearing Xu Zhaodi's words, Su Yan's face turned even redder. At this moment, Lin Brother generously added, "I was just joking earlier; Sister Su, please don't take it to heart."
"No, no," Su Yan quickly waved her hands, indicating that it wasn't a big deal.
Thus, amidst Lin Brother's self-proclaimed expertise in romance, the four of them exchanged numbers and chatted until the Military Training time began. Lin Brother reluctantly bid farewell to the two girls before leaving.
On the way to the training ground, Lin Brother felt excited. "Liu, don't worry about me taking care of you; that girl named Xu Zhaodi is all yours. As for Sister Su? I'll step up and take care of her!"
"Thanks, but no thanks!" Jiang Liu shot Lin Brother a middle finger in disdain. "Why didn't you just take both girls for yourself?"
"I'm a very loyal person, and I can't handle that girl Xu Zhaodi; I can only go after the pure-hearted Su Yan."
"You're so impressive! Why don't you make a move?"
"Hehe, I just made my move earlier!"
