Horror Chapter
After about two to three minutes, Jiang Liu finally set the time on the Clock to three. Without a moment to breathe, he hurriedly ran outside. The rules of this supernatural event dictated that they had to stay for seven days and leave the hotel to end it. Until they escaped the hotel, they could face attacks from ghosts, especially in a situation triggered by a dead end.
As he fled the room, he glanced at the door of Room 104, and his body came to an abrupt halt, as if a bucket of icy water had been poured over him from head to toe, leaving him feeling exceptionally cold.
It turned out that the door to Room 104 had been completely opened at some point, and the room inside was eerily silent, with not a sound escaping.
At that moment, Lin Mao'er also rushed out of her room. Seeing Jiang Liu's pale face fixed on Room 104, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes silently questioning what had happened.
Jiang Liu made a gesture for silence, signaling Lin Mao'er to come over slowly while waving his hand toward Room 104. Understanding his meaning, her face turned ashen as she tried to suppress her footsteps, inching closer to Jiang Liu.
The corridor was enveloped in an oppressive atmosphere due to the open door of Room 104.
The short distance of just a few meters felt like hundreds to Lin Mao'er. Her anxious steps faltered several times as fear urged her to turn back and flee from Room 104. Finally reaching the front of the room, she peeked inside but saw no sign of any ghost. A sense of calm washed over her, though confusion quickly followed.
Where was the ghost? The open door indicated that it had already come out, yet why couldn’t she see it?
Jiang Liu shared the same question in his mind, but since no ghost had appeared, it was good news. He gestured for Lin Mao'er to continue moving forward while he kept watch.
Perhaps Jiang Liu's silent prayers were heard by the gods; until they met up, no ghost showed itself. Their hearts gradually relaxed as they stepped back from Room 104. It wasn't until they exited the corridor that they finally felt completely at ease.
"Let's go; we need to get out of here," Jiang Liu whispered to Lin Mao'er.
Just as he turned around, he was met with a scene that filled him with despair: a naked corpse hung high in the lobby. The skin had been flayed away, exposing bloody muscle beneath. Due to the lack of skin, it was impossible to tell whose body it was; however, judging by its shape, it seemed to be female—though whether it belonged to Li Jing or Xu Qian remained unknown.
Crimson liquid dripped continuously from the flayed female corpse onto the white marble floor below, which was now covered in blood. The heavy stench made Jiang Liu nearly gag. As he looked toward the hotel entrance, he was confronted by the terrifying sight of a woman in red. Yet his attention was drawn to the Human Skin she held; upon closer inspection!
From that Human Skin, Jiang Liu could vaguely make out the face of the cold goddess Xu Qian! Could it be that this corpse belonged to Xu Qian? Hadn’t she left already? Was their path truly wrong?
Before he could fully comprehend the situation, a voice called out from behind him: "Hey! Why aren't you leaving yet? The ghost is already out!"
Jiang Liu was about to tell Li Lin not to come over, as he had never felt that Li Lin and Xu Qian were simply companions; he feared that Li Lin would see Xu Qian's tragic state. However, Li Lin was too quick. Before Jiang Liu could speak, Li Lin rushed out of the corridor and into the hall, where the sight of the female corpse hanging from the ceiling met his eyes.
Li Lin froze for a moment at the bloody scene in the hall. Then he noticed the familiar Human Skin in the hands of the ghostly woman in red standing by the door, and he felt as if his entire world had collapsed. In a fit of rage and despair, he shouted, "Xu Qian!"
He attempted to charge toward the ghostly figure at the door, but fortunately, Jiang Liu managed to grab him in time, stopping him from making a foolish move that would lead to his death. Jiang Liu slapped Li Lin across the face and shouted, "Xu Qian is dead! If you rush over now, it will only lead to your demise!"
After being slapped, Li Lin calmed down and stared blankly at the tragic corpse in the living room, tears streaming down his face uncontrollably.
The ghostly woman in red displayed an eerie demeanor, as if she hadn't heard their argument. She slowly opened her hands to reveal the Human Skin and draped it over herself. What happened next was unbelievable!
As Xu Qian's skin enveloped the ghostly woman in red, she transformed into Xu Qian! Aside from her terrifying eyes, she looked exactly like Xu Qian!
The three of them were stunned by this incredible sight, watching in disbelief as the ghost underwent such a magnificent transformation. After becoming Xu Qian, the ghostly woman noticed them and slowly approached. Li Lin was the first to react; gritting his teeth, he urged Jiang Liu and Lin Mao'er, "Split up and run toward the door! We really have to leave our fate to chance this time!"
Indeed, given their current awareness of the situation, their only chance of survival lay in splitting up and running outside. The ghost could only kill one person at a time; once it chose one of them, the other two could use that moment to escape from the hotel. The one caught by the ghost would have no other fate but death. Although it was cruel, it was indeed their only option.
Seeing Jiang Liu and Lin Mao'er nodding in agreement, Li Lin glanced at the approaching ghostly woman in red and calculated the distance between her and the revolving door. When he felt she was far enough away from it, he shouted, "Run!"
At his command, they dashed like wild horses in three different directions toward the hotel entrance. Li Lin took the middle path—the same route as the ghost. If things continued this way, he would encounter her in just a few seconds.
Before they began running, Jiang Liu had thought they would split into different paths; however, he did not expect Li Lin to recklessly charge straight toward the ghost. But now that they had started, Jiang Liu saw no reason to waste the opportunity that Li Lin had created for them.
Just as Li Lin was about to meet the ghostly woman in red, he yelled back at Jiang Liu: "Jiang Liu! After you get out, help me set up a grave for Xu Qian!"
He threw something toward Jiang Liu. Catching what Li Lin had tossed without looking closely at it, Jiang Liu covered his head and rushed outside. Just before bursting through the door, he glanced back.
The ghostly woman in red thrust her hands into Li Lin's chest and lifted him off the ground. In agony from the pain, Li Lin opened his mouth wide as blood poured out continuously like a blooming flower. With tear-filled eyes fixed on Xu Qian's tragic corpse hanging above him, he revealed a final smile.
"That last sentence never came out; I really am a failure."
"I'm sorry, it's all because of me that you were chosen by it."
"Don't be silly. I was just trying to survive."
"But—"
"Enough! You're the strong woman in our hearts. This crying and whining doesn't suit you!"
——
"Li Lin, if I happen to die in this incident, will you cry for me?"
"No!"
"Why not?"

Half a month later, in a cemetery in H City.
A young man stood before a gravestone, holding a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. The gravestone bore no name, only a photograph.
In the photo, there were two people, a man and a woman, smiling brightly at the camera. To outsiders, they looked like a couple deeply in love.
Placing the flowers at the base of the gravestone, the young man murmured to himself, "I don't understand why you chose to leave us with the chance to live at the last moment and entrusted me with giving you this gravestone. But still, thank you! I've fulfilled my promise to you."
The young man brushed away the dust on the cement and, without caring about the dirt, sat in front of the tombstone, looking at the photo of the two with a smile. "You didn't get to be together in life, but being buried together after death is not a bad choice!"
"Actually, you two are quite lucky. At least you both knew each other's feelings." He patted the tombstone. "Not understanding is fine; in this hellish existence, no one can know when they will die! Being friends is pretty good too..."
"There are still many questions I haven't figured out. Why did Xu Qian not escape from the hotel in the end but chose to stay in the lobby? And why was it you who walked out of the room last? There are so many things I still can't comprehend. I guess I won't find the answers until I die. But I've come to terms with it; since everything has already happened, there's no need for me to dwell on these issues! Life must go on, right?"
He stood up and brushed off the dust from his pants. "It's getting late; I should head back."
"Oh right! You two must bless me to survive any future supernatural events! Otherwise, there won't be anyone to visit your graves!"
At this point, the young man paused for a moment before smiling and scolding the tombstone, "Now I understand why you wanted me to set up a tombstone for you—afraid of being forgotten, huh?"
With a chuckle, he shook his head and turned away from the tombstone. Looking at the distant yellowing edges, he self-deprecatingly remarked, "You’re gone, but I'll make sure to visit your graves! I wonder if anyone will put up a tombstone for me when my time comes?"
He raised his hand and waved goodbye to the two tombstones.
"Goodbye!"
"I hope in your next life, you two can finally be together!"
