Horror Chapter
Since Xu Qian's room was the closest to them, Li Lin decided not to go to the other rooms and rushed into Room 101, followed closely by the others.
Upon entering the room, they gathered around the Clock. Looking up at it, Li Lin compared its height to his own. Just as Jiang Liu had pointed out, there was indeed a difference in height compared to the Clock in the lobby; an average person could easily reach it by standing on a chair.
"Just as you guessed, it can be taken down. But what do we do now?"
Stepping down from the chair, Li Lin held the Clock he had just removed and fiddled with it, trying to see if there was anything special about it. After a while of examining it without finding anything unusual, he handed it over to Jiang Liu to see if he could discover something.
Taking the Clock from Li Lin, Jiang Liu also fiddled with it for a moment but found nothing remarkable. It was just like any ordinary clock from a watch shop. The two fell into deep thought once again.
[The direction should be correct, but what does the Clock represent? Could it be like the Taoist bagua mirror that reflects spirits? That seems far-fetched!]
Flipping the Clock over, he found no symbols associated with Taoism; not even a bagua diagram! He couldn't help but chuckle at his own absurd thoughts.
Li Lin and the others looked at Jiang Liu in confusion upon hearing his laughter, wondering why he could laugh at such a time. Did he already know the way out?!
"Do you already know how to escape?" Xu Qian asked excitedly, looking at Jiang Liu, eager to hear good news from him.
"No, I just thought of something that made me laugh!" Jiang Liu quickly explained, trying to change the subject before anyone got angry. "So about the Clock, what was your first impression?"
The group was indeed distracted by Jiang Liu's question and began to ponder.
"The style?" Li Lin said uncertainly before shaking his head. "No, the Clock in our room is just one number higher than the one in the lobby; its style hasn't changed."
"Time! The Clock represents time!" As soon as Li Lin finished speaking, Xu Qian exclaimed excitedly, her voice filled with joy.
Hearing Xu Qian's words, Jiang Liu slapped his forehead and thought to himself: Of course! How did I not think of that? The Clock is meant to represent the passage of time! If I'm not mistaken, this supernatural event also has a way for everyone to safely get through it, and we shouldn't have to stay in this hotel for so long!
"Wait! Could the way out refer to the time on the Clock?" Before Li Lin could finish his thought, Jiang Liu interrupted.
"I got it!" Jiang Liu exclaimed excitedly as he looked at everyone and shared his guess. "Do you all remember how we can leave this hotel?"
"Yes, we need to stay in the hotel for seven days!"
"Exactly, we need to stay in the hotel for seven days!" Jiang Liu's expression was somewhat euphoric, like an addict high on drugs. He excitedly told the three of them, "In fact, the way out has always been right in front of us—the Clock! The Clock is the key to this supernatural event's way out. We were misled by our perceptions from the real world and forgot one crucial fact! This place is not the real world at all, so the hotel's rule of staying for seven days cannot be measured by real-world time. What's worse is that this supernatural event created a false sense of time similar to the real world by introducing day and night—two phenomena familiar to everyone! So we didn't notice that time was a trap from the very beginning!"
"I have to interrupt you here; we don't have enough time to listen to your explanation. Just tell us what we need to do!" Li Lin noticed that Jiang Liu was becoming increasingly unstable and quickly interrupted him.
Jiang Liu paused for a moment after being interrupted, then calmed himself down and said, "We just need to turn the hands of the Clock to seven, and we can get through this supernatural event."
As soon as Jiang Liu finished speaking, Li Lin immediately opened the glass face of the Clock and quickly turned the hour hand six times. The Clock stopped precisely at eight. He then tossed it aside and said to everyone, "Let's go! We need to get out of here quickly!"
Just as they were about to rush out of the room, Jiang Liu called out, "Wait, we haven't fully solved the way out yet!"
"What do you mean?" Li Lin was now somewhat irritated. Just moments ago, Jiang Liu had said that turning the Clock's time to seven would ensure their safety through this supernatural event. Now he was saying they hadn't fully solved it? Was he playing with them?
Jiang Liu didn't give Li Lin a chance to vent his frustration and quickly explained, "The Clock you just adjusted is only from Xu Qian's room; it only represents that Xu Qian has stayed in the hotel for seven days. Our room's Clock hasn't even been turned past three yet!"
At that moment, a creaking sound echoed from outside in the hallway as a door opened.
The ghost is about to come out!
Hearing the sound, several people suddenly turned pale. Li Lin looked at Jiang Liu, whose face was equally grim, and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Sure, earlier..."
"No time for your speculations!" Li Lin gritted his teeth and said to Xu Qian, "You need to leave the hotel first! Once I have everything sorted out, I'll come find you!"
"Okay, I trust you, but you have to promise you'll come back alive!" Xu Qian looked into Li Lin's eyes, seeking a definitive answer, clearly thinking that if Li Lin couldn't guarantee it, he would rather die here with him.
"I promise!" Li Lin nodded firmly, then turned to Jiang Liu and Lin Mao'er. "Everyone go back to your own rooms. Whoever finishes first leaves the hotel without waiting for anyone else!"
"This isn't..." Jiang Liu started to object but was interrupted by Lin Mao'er agreeing to this obviously unfair plan.
This method posed no difficulty for Li Lin and Jiang Liu; as long as they moved quickly and returned to their rooms to set the Clock, they could leave the hotel. However, it was extremely unfair to Lin Mao'er because of her room's location; she had a longer distance to cover than Li Lin and Jiang Liu. By the time they had set their times, Lin Mao'er might still be struggling with the Clock.
Li Lin proposed this method because he knew there simply wasn't enough time for everyone to leave alive. It was a matter of luck now!
After hearing Lin Mao'er's response, Li Lin grabbed Xu Qian and ran out of the room, followed closely by Lin Mao'er. Jiang Liu, reacting a bit slower, bitterly smiled to himself: great! He had just played the good guy for nothing.
As he stepped into his own room, Jiang Liu glanced at the door of Room 104 and noticed it slowly opening halfway. At this rate, in about three or four minutes, the door would fully open, and the ghost would emerge—the real slaughter would begin!
