Horror Chapter
Time rewound to just a few minutes ago.
In the adjacent room of the White-Collar Man, as midnight approached, his angry shouts suddenly echoed intermittently. Jiang Liu, slumped on the sofa, immediately sensed something was off. Logically, after experiencing the fright from a ghost, the White-Collar Man shouldn't be this agitated even if he encountered another scare. What could he have seen?
However, for safety's sake, Jiang Liu decided it would be best to remind the White-Collar Man.
“Jin Wanquan? Don’t be afraid! It’s all just your imagination!”
“What’s going on? Did the ghost scare Jin Wanquan again?” Xu Qian's voice came from down the hallway, laced with a hint of mockery. She seemed to look down on the White-Collar Man's reaction. Earlier, to prepare him for any unexpected situations that night, the two elders had taught him many methods. But now, hearing the intermittent sounds from the hallway, Xu Qian felt that all their efforts that afternoon had been in vain, which reflected in her tone.
“It’s fine; if he can still talk, it means he’s not in any real danger,” Li Lin chimed in, explaining to Jiang Liu. “This might be a deliberate act by the ghost to scare Jin Wanquan and make us rush over to help him.”
After hearing Li Lin's explanation, Jiang Liu pondered and realized this possibility was quite high. Although it felt somewhat dishonorable, since the White-Collar Man could still make sounds, it indicated he wasn't in any life-threatening situation. Going out now might very well lead him into a trap set by the ghost. Yet, deep down, he felt that things wouldn't go as smoothly as everyone thought.
“Just hold on a little longer; it will soon be one o'clock. If you go out now, all your efforts will be wasted,” Li Lin seemed to guess Jiang Liu's thoughts and urged him to hang in there for a bit longer.
At that moment, the White-Collar Man fell silent. Just when Jiang Liu thought everything was safe and sound, a loud crash suddenly erupted from the White-Collar Man's room.
Startled by the noise, Jiang Liu froze for a moment, thinking how familiar that sound was—like something breaking... a mirror! His expression changed instantly as he shouted “Mirror!” at Li Lin and dashed out of the room.
Hearing Jiang Liu's shout, Li Lin's face also changed as she yelled to Xu Qian and Lin Mao'er still in the room, “This is bad! Jin Wanquan might have broken the mirror! Everyone hurry over and take a look!”
Without hesitation, she followed closely behind Jiang Liu towards Room 104.
Jiang Liu was the first to enter the room of the White-Collar Man. As soon as he stepped inside, he noticed something strange: the wall that had once held a mirror had transformed into a room that looked exactly like the White-Collar Man's bedroom. In that additional room, the White-Collar Man was weeping over a female corpse, while a corpulent man squatted beside him.
Suddenly, Jiang Liu felt a sense of familiarity with the stout man. After a moment of contemplation, he exclaimed inwardly, "Wait! Isn't that the long-lost Fat Man, Liu the Great?" The man’s face was smeared with blood, and he wore an extremely ferocious expression as he stared at the White-Collar Man. Meanwhile, the White-Collar Man seemed oblivious to the presence of another person beside him, continuing to sob over the corpse in his arms. Upon closer inspection, Jiang Liu recognized the body; it was unmistakably Li Jing, the Student Sister who had died in the mirror last night!
What was happening? Did Fat Man and Student Sister not die after all?
Before he could ponder further, footsteps echoed from behind him, followed by Li Lin's voice: "Where's Jin Wanquan? Did he smash the mirror?"
Before Li Lin could finish his sentence, his words were abruptly cut off. It was clear that he too was taken aback by this bizarre scene. However, before any of them could act, what happened next plunged everyone's hearts into despair.
The White-Collar Man turned his head and locked eyes with Fat Man’s grotesque face. Before he could react, Fat Man swiftly extended his left hand and pressed it against the White-Collar Man's head. With a twist, just like turning a toy's head, it was gruesomely rotated 180 degrees. The bewildered expression on the White-Collar Man's face as he looked at Jiang Liu and Li Lin suggested he had no idea what was happening.
The sound of his spine being forcibly twisted echoed clearly in each of their ears. Everyone stood frozen in shock at this horrifying sight, unsure of what to do.
Li Lin, being older and having experienced many such events, quickly reacted and shouted, "Run! The dead end has been triggered!"
He grabbed Jiang Liu and started to flee. Xu Qian was the second to react, pulling Lin Mao'er along as they rushed toward the exit. Just as everyone managed to escape from the room, the door to Room 104 slammed shut!
Once they reached the hotel lobby, Jiang Liu suddenly stopped and turned back to look at the closed door of Room 104.
"What are you dawdling for? Hurry up and run!" Li Lin yelled anxiously when he noticed Jiang Liu had halted.
"Wait! Something feels off!" Jiang Liu pointed at the closed door with a furrowed brow and said, "The ghost didn’t follow us out!"
Watching Jiang Liu and Li Lin come to a halt, Xu Qian also stopped, her anger boiling over as she exclaimed, "What are you still standing there for? Are you just waiting to die?"
"Wait, something feels off!" Li Lin interrupted Xu Qian, turning to face the closed door alongside Jiang Liu. "We can't leave the hotel right now! The event isn't over yet! And since the ghost hasn't followed us out, we should be safe for now."
After hearing Li Lin's explanation, Xu Qian's expression darkened significantly. She kicked a nearby chair in frustration and snapped, "So what do we do now? The dead end has already been triggered. Are we just supposed to stay here and wait for the ghost to pick us off one by one?"
"It never gives us a guaranteed death mission. Even if a dead end is triggered, it won't lead to a situation where survival is impossible. Have you forgotten?" Li Lin's tone was unusually commanding, managing to suppress even Xu Qian's icy demeanor. "Once we step out of this hotel, it would mean violating the rules of the event. At that point, dying will definitely be worse than staying here!"
Xu Qian seemed to recall some unpleasant memory triggered by Li Lin's last statement, shivering slightly before forcing herself to calm down. "So what do we do now?"
"Find another way out!" Li Lin said, looking at the pensive Jiang Liu. "You performed really well just now; I need you to tell me another way out!"
"How should I know another way out?" Jiang Liu retorted, irritated by Li Lin's commanding tone. But he quickly realized that this wasn't the time for infighting and suppressed his rising anger. He replied calmly, "When Liu the Great killed Jin Wanquan earlier, I felt something was off."
"Liu the Great?" Li Lin initially looked puzzled before asking in surprise, "The ghost that killed Jin Wanquan was Liu the Great?"
"Didn't you notice?" Jiang Liu looked at Li Lin in confusion and then glanced at Xu Qian and Lin Mao'er, who were equally astonished.
"I didn't pay that much attention," Li Lin explained before asking, "What do you think was off?"
